Abstract

1151214 Fluid heaters URQUHART'S (1926) Ltd 4 July 1966 [17 June 1965 23 Sept 1965] 25774/65 and 40677/65 Heading F4 AN2A A fluid heater, e.g. for fuel oils, comprises metal clad heating elements 1 of rectilinear cross-section, sandwiched between tubular metal fluid ducts 3 also of rectilinear cross-section. The cross-section is, e.g., square, triangular, diamond, rectilinear. The elements and ducts may be concentrically arranged to provide a pancake-shaped heater, Fig. 1, or coaxially arranged to provide a hollow cylindrical heater, Fig. 2, (not shown). The elements comprise separate rings or are formed from a single spirally, Fig. 1, or helically (Fig. 2) wound member. Elements 1 comprise ceramic filled metal tubes with embedded resistance wires 2. The top and bottom ducts 3, Fig. 1, or inner and outer ducts (Fig. 2) may form a single or two separate fluid ways. The heating element may be wound with a solid bar of the same section. In a further form, Figs. 3-5, (not shown), a flat ring- type resistance element (10) of the same structure as elements 1 is flanked by two fluid duct units, each comprising spirally coiled metal tubing (12, 12A). The two inlet ends (13, 13A) and the two outlet ends (14, 14A) are respectively connected by common ported connectors, e.g. 16, (Fig. 5). A thermostatic control unit (17) and a terminal block (15) are provided. The heating element (10) and tubes (12, 12A) are encased in a heat-insulating sheath (18) and clamped between screwed plates (19).
