Abstract

A flame spraying powder consists of a mixture of a self-fluxing alloy powder and 5-95% by weight of a powder of a metal or alloy (e.g. W, Re, Ta, Mo., Nb or alloys thereof) having a melting point above 3500 DEG F. By using a plasma flame the powder can be sprayed to form a wear-resistant coating without subsequent fusion. The powder mixture may be sprayed in admixture with other materials e.g.Al, refractory carbides, refractory oxides or molybdenum disilicide. It may also be formed with a binder into a wire. The powder may be used to coat iron and steel, copper, brass, aluminium, titanium, or molybdenum.
