Abstract

1,041,406. Air curtains. MINIKAY Ltd. April 8, 1964 [April 19, 1963], No. 16505/63. Heading F4V. The doorway of a cold store is covered with a recirculated air curtain and a protective air curtain is projected on the outside of and in the same direction as the recirculated air curtain. The recirculated curtain is projected from a slot 20 in a vertical tapered duct 14 at one side of the doorway, collected in a vertical tapered duct 15, and recirculated through a duct 12 above the doorway containing silencers 13 and a blower (not shown). Adjustable vanes 16, Fig. 1 (not shown), are provided in each duct for directing the air. The discharge slot 20 is formed by four nozzle sections 22 each pivotable about a vertical axis to vary the projection angle of each part of the curtain to combat convection currents through the doorway. Each nozzle section is pivoted by a screw pivoted to the nozzle and joined by an internally threaded sleeve 25, Fig. 3 (not shown), to a second screw pivoted to the duct 14. The protective curtain is projected from a slot 18 in a vertical duct 17 with its own fan unit 21. A flat plate 19 is pivoted to the duct 15 to ensure that only air from the duct 14 is recirculated. The slot 18 is one-quarter the width of the slot 20 and the protective curtain is projected at a greater speed than the recirculated curtain such that their speed is the same three-quarters of the way across the doorway. Preferred dimensions of the apparatus are disclosed.
