Abstract

The device has a processor (33) for implementing a time shift function in a part of a recording medium such as a time shift buffer memory. A detecting unit detects a type of the received data, where the data type consists of audio type data, high definition video type data and standard definition video type data. An adjusting unit adjusts limit of recording time in the buffer memory according to the type of received data. The data are coded with a MPEG-2 transport stream (MPEG-2TS). A transcribing unit transcribes the received data before storing in the buffer memory. An independent claim is also included for a method for receiving and recording data on a recording medium.
