Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to the field of verticality such as climbing on natural terrain or artificial structures, caving, "via ferrata" or work at height (construction of buildings, poles ...): it consists a connection system intended to fix by any known means on any natural or artificial aroi, equipment which will allow the user to offer an insurance point and therefore security when he evolves roped up without any other means of protection against falling only his own lifeline linked to his harness.
At present - For work at height, safety is ensured by important elements such as scaffolding or lanyards connected to the harness of the user, which are not very practical for freedom of movement.
- For the "via ferrata" each practitioner is equipped with a double lanyard to move on the ladders or along metal cables or ramps, but this does not allow a professional (guide) the same security for people who 'he frames only if they were roped with him as in climbing.
- For rock climbing where the practitioners evolve normally with a lifeline connected to their harness, it is thanks to quickdraws, set made up of a strap connecting two carabiners, that the climber will connect the rope d insurance on the wall as many times as it meets an insurance point: this forces it to carry many quickdraws (from 8 to 20 depending on the walls) and therefore dependent: carabiners which can have several faults (bad operation, temporary openings by shocks or vibrations, bad placements, etc ...) In addition, in this current practice several gestures are necessary which represents an energy expenditure.
- In climbing for the practice of the "moulinette" there are 2 possibilities for the climber arrived at the top of the route to undertake the descent - to untie to pass its lifeline in the point of return if it is fixed (ring pin) then re-tie and start the descent, which is a very dangerous phase responsible for many accidents.
= Pass your Eorde through an element with a mobile part (such as a carabiner): in this case the danger comes from the fact that when exposed outside the mobile part will be seized and therefore dangerous, the insurance rope is no longer really prisoner.
- In climbing always the pose of a reminder obliges the climber to pass a half of rope in the loop of the spindle, which is a long and tedious operation.
The present invention overcomes these shortcomings in a simple and effective manner - for the various activities mentioned above, as for caving, by proposing a connection means fixed to the wall which offers a secure anchoring point where the user can place his lifeline and thus prevent his fall and ensure his safety.
- For climbing, the connection means of the invention allows a plurality of secure insurance points which do not require quickdraws as in current practice and offers a point of reference (at the top of the tracks) which allows the passage of the rope without unwinding. In addition, the system of the invention does not contain any moving part, this guarantees that the rope is trapped permanently.
- To set a climbing reminder, the climber places the middle of the rope directly in the system of the invention, which is quick and safe.
We measure all the interest of the connection system presented because of its versatility and high reliability. In the various activities cited the user can place his lifeline with a single gesture (instead of several) the system of the invention trapping the rope so that it can no longer go out alone thus ensuring a total safety for the user. Of course the gesture to remove the rope is as simple to perform as to place it.
This connection system intended to be fixed on inclined natural or artificial structures for safety progression and prevention of falls from a height allowing the user to place their insurance rope there, connected to their harness, without any intermediate part , consists of - a substantially horizontal fixed rod, - a bent fixed part integral with this rod, having a horizontal part and a substantially vertical part, the vertical part of which has a closed interior space concentric with the horizontal rod, l end of the horizontal rod being on the path of the vertical plane defined by the vertical part of the bent part - of an annular space comprised between the horizontal rod and the concentric part of dimension such that it allows just the passage of a lifeline, approximately between 8 and 12mm.
To fix this connection system to the walls, all current known means can be applied (expansion plug, sticking rod, etc.). To make the cord trapped in this connection system, it is sufficient, for example, to place it on the rod. horizontal and, by pressing with one or two fingers to force it to pass under the rod thanks to the annular space existing between the rod and the concentric part.
Once trapped, the rope cannot go back on its own, even when twisting, and in the event of the user falling, it works in good conditions because it is in contact with a relatively large part, compared to the 5mm radius of today's soft quetons, which avoids excessive stress and prolongs its service life.
Of course the establishment of the rope can be done laterally or any other place always using the annular space existing between the rod and its concentric part, which gives any freedom to use it in the gesture of establishment from the rope.
To remove the rope from the connection system, just force the rope outwards to force it to pass beyond the end of the horizontal rod, which is easier to do because the system is fixed whereas with carabiners their mobility is an annoying drawback.
The invention will moreover be better understood thanks to the different figures illustrate several possible embodiments carried out `at scale 1 approximately - Fig.l represents a first embodiment of the profile, - Fig.2 is an end view of this 1st mode, - Fig.3 represents a second embodiment in profile and Fig.4 this same mode seen at the end, - Fig.5 represents a Seme embodiment, - Fig.6 represents a 4th embodiment, - Fig.7 shows the position taken by the rope to enter the space (E) and then remain trapped. In the 1st embodiment (Fig. 1 and 2) the horizontal rod (1) has a part intended to be fixed in the wall (P) for example by a dowel (2), this fixing ensuring at the same time the fixing of the forged U-shaped part (3) whose vertical part (4) is circular and concentric with the rod (1), the cord (5) being shown captive after passage through the annular space (E). In this mode the end of the rod (1) is flush with the inner side of the part (4) to facilitate the passage of the rope (5) in (E).
In the second embodiment (Fig. 3 and 4) the horizontal rod (1) is fixed in the wall (P) by its part (6) for example by bonding (epoxy resin). The angled L-shaped part (7) is made up of a part (8) intended to be fixed in the wall (P) and at the other end of a part (9) of generally triangular shape, the center of which corresponds to the axis of the rod (1). In this case the rod (1) is longer and its end is flush with the outer block of (9) to make the path of the cord (5) more difficult and eliminate any risk of untimely exit from the latter.
In the 5th embodiment (Fig. 5) the rod (1) and the bent piece (11) are integral with a stiffening plate (14) which increases the resistance to tearing of the assembly by stressing citing at the same time time the 2 pieces (1 and 11) fixed in the wall (P). It can be noted that in this case the rod (1) has a reinforcement (15) and that the part (11) consists of 2 parts, that carrying the concentric part (12) and that (13) carrying the fixing dowel joined together by welding, for example. Note also that in this embodiment the space between the rod (1) and the part (13) is enlarged to facilitate the sliding movement of the rope even if it strands.
Fig.6 shows a 4th embodiment in which the bent piece (16) is placed above the rod (17), the part (18) thereof ensuring the fixing of the assembly on the wall ( P) and making them integral (16) and (17). In this embodiment the rod (17) is slightly inclined and oversized since it is it which must resist the shocks transmitted by the rope in the event of the climber falling. Finally Fig.7 (partial section) allows to understand how we can force the rope (5) in the annular space (E) despite the rod (1) by exerting a pressure following the arrow (F) with fingers to bring the rope (5) into the connection system. The present invention is not limited to the embodiments which have been described, but it includes the various variants #. For example the geometric shape of the 2nd embodiment can be square, losan ge, oblong; the proportions can be increased so that the connection system receives 2 cords, or decreased if the diameter of the insurance link (cable for example) is smaller.
Finally, note that the connection system of the invention can also be used as a climbing insurance point by placing a quickdraw.
The connection system of the invention is particularly intended for the safety of users.
