Abstract

A digital data transmission system, has a central station and one or more peripheral stations, in which the central station can send out over a channel a composite signal having at least three characteristic combinations of polarity and level, permitting the simultaneous conveyance of clock information and useful data to the sub-stations. Each substation has a clock generator which can be phased in by a specific combination of central station signals as well as circuits for the separation of data according to phase, to derive useful data from the composite signal which is transmitted periodically at a specific phase position of the composite signal; the sub-station can also transmit data block to the central station at appropriate phase positions.
