Abstract

Protection system for high impedance faults in electrical distribution lines.The system is designed to detect possible incidents produced through phase-phase and phase-earth, providing protection even when the obtained impedance levels are elevated. The system, which can be used in a distribution subsystem with the corresponding distribution bar (1) from which are derived the distribution lines (2) (each one with a switch (8)) includes a signal generator (4) that are conveniently modulated and encrypted so that they can be detected by a sensor (6) placed in each line (2) and linked to protection system (7) connected to the corresponding switch (8) on each line (2). The unusual part is that the signals coming from the generator (4) are applied to the distribution bar (1) via an adaptor mechanism (5) so that the protection device (7), using the information from the generator (4) and the intensity measured by the sensor (6), establishes the line impedance variation (2) operating when specific changes in the impedance occur.
