Bücher mit einem weichen Einband (Paperback, Taschenbücher u.a.) sind wegen des Fertigungs- und Kostenaufwandes für das Anbringen von Lesebändchen nur in den seltensten Fällen mit einem integral mit dem Druckerzeugnis verbundenen Lesezeichen ausgebildet. Dennoch wird beim Lesen von Romanen oder beim Arbeiten mit Fach- und Lehrbüchern oder Nachschlagewerken in jedem Fall mindestens ein Lesezeichen benötigt.
