Description

The present invention relates to a method for displaying on a watch dial, in particular a wristwatch with analog display and comprising a single electric motor for driving the hands, at least one information based on stored time.

It also relates to a watch, in particular a wristwatch with analog display and comprising a single electric motor, of the stepping type with two directions of rotation for driving the hands, means for memorizing at least one time-based information and means for displaying this stored information on a dial.

There are already known watches of the wristwatch type provided with a ringing device and with a memory for memorizing the scheduled time for the ringing to start. The user is frequently required to check this memorized time, in particular if it is the alarm time. The only way to find out the stored time is to display it on the watch face. To do this, known watches simply use their hour and minute hands, simultaneously moving in accelerated mode.

In current watches equipped with a conventional motor, the duration of the simultaneous movement of the two hands can be relatively long. In fact, if it is eight o'clock, and if the memorized time for activating the alarm bell is for example ten minutes past seven, the hour hand must make an almost complete turn, and the minute hand must simultaneously perform eleven full turns. The time required for this maneuver is important, especially since the return takes place according to the same process. On average, the number of revolutions that the minute hand must make is twelve regardless of the direction of travel of these hands, namely forward, reverse or alternately the two directions of travel.

In practice, with known watches having a single drive motor actuating the minute and hour hands, the procedure is as follows, starting from the normal indication of the hour and the minute:

In this case the hour and the minute are displayed simultaneously,

― pendant un laps de temps, il est possible de lire l'heure mémorisée et éventuellement de la modifier en actionnant le moteur,- for a period of time, it is possible to read the memorized time and possibly modify it by operating the motor,

― retour en marche accélérée à l'indication normale de l'heure et de la minute.- return to accelerated operation at the normal indication of the hour and the minute.

In more sophisticated watches comprising a special motor capable of driving the hands at a strongly accelerated speed, this time, although shortened, remains relatively long and inconvenient for the user. In addition, since motors of this type are very expensive, only high-priced watches can be fitted with them, which greatly limits their distribution.

The present invention proposes to overcome the various drawbacks mentioned above, by developing a method and by making a watch equipped to display memorized information very quickly without resorting to sophisticated technical means.

This object is achieved by the method according to the invention, characterized in that the hands of the watch are moved by turning the motor at accelerated speed to bring, in less than one revolution, the fastest hand in a position indicating the stored time base information, and in that the hands are returned to their normal position at accelerated speed.

According to an advantageous embodiment, the fastest needle is kept in this position for a predetermined time interval.

According to a preferred embodiment, the fastest needle is oscillated around said position for a predetermined time interval.

According to an advantageous embodiment, the minute hand of the watch is used.

According to a variant, the seconds hand of the watch is used.

According to another embodiment, an additional watch hand is used which is neither the minute hand nor the second hand.

The time-based information displayed is advantageously the time when the alarm rings.

According to another embodiment, the time-based information is the time of a predetermined place located in another time zone.

According to an equally advantageous embodiment, one proceeds in at least two phases, a first phase during which the hand indicates the hour, and a second phase during which the hand indicates the minutes. This operating mode makes it possible to produce a very precise display.

The watch according to the invention, as defined above, is characterized in that it comprises an electronic circuit for controlling the needle drive motor, arranged to control the accelerated movement of the hands on request and to bring, in less than one revolution, the fastest hand in the position indicating the stored time base information, and to return these needles at accelerated speed to their normal position.

According to an advantageous embodiment, the electronic control circuit is arranged to maintain the fastest needle in this position for a predetermined time interval.

According to a preferred embodiment, the electronic control circuit is arranged to oscillate the fastest needle around said position for a predetermined time interval.

According to various variants, the hand used can be the minute hand, the second hand or an additional watch hand which is neither the minute hand nor the second hand.

In the case where the watch is equipped with a ring, of the alarm ring type, the information based on the stored time base is advantageously the time of activation of the ring.

In the case where the watch comprises an electronic circuit arranged to calculate the time corresponding to the displayed time, in a predetermined place located in another time zone, the stored time information is advantageously this time calculated at said predetermined place.

To enable an extremely precise display of the stored time information to be produced, the watch may include an electronic control circuit arranged to move said hand in at least two phases, a first phase during which the hand indicates the time and a second phase during which the hand indicates the minutes of said stored information.

Several time-based information can be displayed simultaneously or successively.

La présente invention sera mieux comprise en référence à la description d'un exemple de réalisation et du dessin annexé dans lequel:The present invention will be better understood with reference to the description of an exemplary embodiment and the appended drawing in which:

The single figure shows a schematic view of a preferred embodiment of the watch according to the invention.

An electronic circuit 15 controls the motor 14. An electric current source 16 is directly connected to the electronic circuit 15 and to the motor 14. The electronic circuit 15 has an input 17 allowing the introduction of time-based information to be memorized and various other inputs 18 intended to intervene on different functions of the watch. In practice, these inputs can be embodied by function keys mounted on the watch case or by a crown or by any other device known per se (not shown).

When the user wants to enter time-based information in memory such as, for example, the time at which the alarm 19 rings, he appropriately handles the device (not shown) connected to the input 17 of the electronic circuit. 15. Subsequently, if he wants to know the time information which has been memorized by the electronic circuit 15, he appropriately manipulates one of the function keys corresponding to one of the inputs 18 of the electronic circuit 15. Following this intervention, the electronic circuit transmits to the drive motor 14 rapid pulses which have the effect of preferably moving the minute hand in a position indicating, on the dial 10 of the watch, at least approximately the hour corresponding to this stored time information. When the minute hand traveling at an accelerated speed has arrived in the desired position, it preferably oscillates two or three times around this position, which provides the user with a visual indication, in general sufficiently precise, of the memorized time information, then returns to its normal position at accelerated speed.

As mentioned previously, other needles could also be used such as for example the second hand 20 or an additional needle 21 provided for this purpose. The advantage of using the minute hand is that it provides a particularly precise indication that a step corresponds to four minutes, which makes it possible to obtain sufficient display precision.

According to another embodiment, the display could be carried out in two phases:
  • A first phase during which the hour hand effectively indicates the time of the stored time-based information, and
  • - a second phase during which the hour hand indicates the minutes of the stored time-based information.

In this case, the information provided, while remaining extremely fast, is as precise as that obtained with the conventional means described above.

As mentioned above, the time-based information is not limited to the time of activation of a wake-up ring. This time-based information could also be the time calculated at any point on the globe situated in a time zone different from that in which the user of the watch is located. In this case, the electronic circuit memorizes the time difference.

In addition, by providing a sufficient number of inputs to the electronic circuit 15 and an appropriate number of function keys, one could generalize the system so that one can display several stored time information. The electronic circuit is then designed to allow simultaneous or successive storage of different information on a time basis.

The present invention is not limited to the embodiments described but may extend to other embodiments and to various variants obvious to those skilled in the art.
