Abstract
A firmware update method of a peripheral component quick interconnection switcher is implemented by a firmware update system connected with a computer host, wherein the firmware update system comprises a substrate management unit connected with the computer host and the peripheral component quick interconnection switcher connected with the substrate management unit, and comprises the following steps: (A) The baseboard management unit transmits a firmware update file received from the host computer to the peripheral component quick interconnection switcher; (B) The PCI express switch transmits a successful receipt reply to the BMC; (C) The baseboard management unit transmits an update instruction to the peripheral component quick interconnection switcher; (D) The peripheral component quick interconnection switcher updates according to the firmware update file; (E) The PCI express switch restarts and executes the firmware update file.
Description
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a firmware update method, and more particularly, to a firmware update method for a peripheral device quick interconnect switch.
Background
Referring to fig. 1, a conventional firmware update method of the pci express Switch 9 (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express Switch, PCIe Switch) is to perform firmware update by physically communicating with a Switch-side asic 91 of the pci express Switch 9 through a UART, universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter by a computer 8.
However, this means that the conventional firmware update method must provide a physical connection to the PCI express switch 9, connect the physical connection of the PCI express switch 9 corresponding to the switch-side UART interface 91 to the host-side UART interface 81 of the computer 8 (not through wireless transmission), and issue commands to the PCI express switch 9 through the computer 8, so that the update can be performed, which is inconvenient.
In view of this, it is an important issue to be solved by the present invention to provide a method for remotely updating the firmware of the PCI express switch 9.
Disclosure of Invention
The invention provides a firmware update method for a peripheral component quick interconnection switcher, which can update the firmware of the peripheral component quick interconnection switcher in a remote mode.
In order to solve the above-mentioned problems, the firmware updating method of the present invention is implemented by a firmware updating system, which is connected to a host computer via a communication network and includes a baseboard management unit connected to the host computer via the communication network, and a peripheral component quick interconnect switch connected to the baseboard management unit via its universal asynchronous transmit/receive interface, wherein the firmware updating method of the peripheral component quick interconnect switch includes a step (a), a step (B), a step (C), a step (D), and a step (E).
The step (A) is to transmit the firmware update file to the PCI express switch after receiving a firmware update file from the host computer and related to the PCI express switch by the baseboard management unit.
The step (B) is to generate and transmit a successful receipt reply to the baseboard management unit after receiving the firmware update file by the PCI express switch.
The step (C) is to generate and transmit an update command related to the firmware update file to the PCI express switch after receiving the successful receipt reply by the baseboard management unit.
The step (D) is to update the firmware update file after receiving the update command by the PCI express switch.
The step (E) is to restart and execute the firmware update file after the firmware update file is updated by the PCI express switch.
Compared with the prior art, the firmware update method of the PCI express switch of the invention transmits the firmware update file to the baseboard management unit in a remote way by the host computer, and then the baseboard management unit transmits the firmware update file to the PCI express switch so that the PCI express switch can update according to the firmware update file, and the firmware update of the PCI express switch can be easily completed by remote operation without on-site wiring.

Before the present invention is described in detail, it should be noted that in the following description, like components are denoted by the same reference numerals.
Referring to fig. 2, one embodiment of a firmware update method for implementing the PCI express switch of the present invention is to connect a firmware update system 2 of a host computer 1 via a communication network 200, wherein the firmware update system 2 comprises a baseboard management unit 21 and a PCI express switch 22.
The computer host 1 includes a host communication module 11 connected to the communication network 200, a host storage module 12, and a host processing module 13 electrically connected to the host communication module 11 and the host storage module 12.
The host storage module 12 stores a firmware update file associated with the PCI express switch.
The baseboard management unit 21 includes a baseboard communication module 211 connected to the communication network 200, a baseboard UART interface 212, a baseboard storage module 213, and a baseboard processing module 214 electrically connected to the baseboard communication module 211, the baseboard UART interface 212, and the baseboard storage module 213.
The PCI express switch 22 includes a switch UART interface 221, a switch storage module 222, and a switch processing module 223 electrically connecting the switch UART interface 221 and the switch storage module 222.
In this embodiment, the implementation of the host computer 1 is, for example, a personal computer, a server or a cloud host, but not limited thereto.
In this embodiment, the baseboard management unit 21 is Baseboard Management Controller, which is referred to as BMC.
In this embodiment, the PCI express Switch 22 is implemented by, for example, peripheral Component Interconnect Express Switch, PCIe Switch for short, but not limited to.

In step 52, the baseboard management unit 21 stores the firmware update file in the baseboard storage module 213 after receiving the firmware update file from the host computer 1, and transmits the firmware update file to the PCI express switch 22 via the asynchronous file transfer protocol. It should be noted that, in this embodiment, the baseboard management unit 21 detects whether the corresponding management network communication PORT (PORT) in the baseboard management unit 21 receives the update request from the host computer 1 through Restful Api Service, and generates and transmits an information request related to the firmware update file to the host computer 1 after detecting that the corresponding management network communication PORT receives the update request, so that the host computer 1 transmits the stored firmware update to the baseboard management unit 21 after receiving the information request.
Referring to FIG. 4, it is noted that the process of transferring the firmware update file to the PCI express switch 22 further includes a substep 521, a substep 522, and a substep 523.
In the sub-step 521, the baseboard management unit 21 generates and transmits a firmware update file transmission request to the PCI express switch 22 after receiving the firmware update file.
In the sub-step 522, the PCI express switch 22 initiates the ATM protocol after receiving the firmware update file transfer request and waits for the firmware update file to be transferred by the BMC 21.
In the sub-step 523, the baseboard management unit 21 transmits the firmware update file to the PCI express switch 22 via the ATM protocol.
In step 53, the PCI express switch 22 updates the firmware update file according to the firmware update file received from the baseboard management unit 21.
Referring to FIG. 5, it is noted that the process for updating the firmware update file further comprises a sub-step 531, a sub-step 532, a sub-step 533, a sub-step 534, a sub-step 535, and a sub-step 536.
In the sub-step 531, the PCI express switch 22 determines whether the firmware update file is damaged during the transmission process after receiving the firmware update file from the host computer 1 via the asynchronous file transfer protocol. When the PCI express switch 22 determines that the firmware update file is not damaged during the transmission process, the process proceeds to step 532; when the PCI express switch 22 determines that the firmware update file is damaged during the transmission process, the process proceeds to step 535. It is noted that in this embodiment, the PCI express switch 22 uses cyclic redundancy check (Cyclic Redundancy Check, CRC) and/or Checksum (Checksum) to determine if the firmware update file is corrupted during transmission.
In the sub-step 532, the PCI express switch 22 generates a successful receipt reply after storing the firmware update file in the switch-side storage module 222, and sends the successful receipt reply to the BMC 21 via the ATM protocol.
In the sub-step 533, the baseboard management unit 21 generates an update command related to the firmware update file after receiving the successful receipt reply via the asynchronous file transfer protocol, and transmits the update command to the PCI express switch 22 via the asynchronous file transfer protocol.
In the substep 534, the PCI express switch 22, after receiving the update command from the baseboard management unit 21 via the asynchronous file transfer protocol, updates the firmware update file stored in the switch-side storage module 222 in the substep 534.
In sub-step 535, the PCI express switch 22 generates a receive failure reply and sends the receive failure reply to the BMC 21 via the ATM protocol.
In the sub-step 536, the baseboard management unit 21 returns to the flow 52 after receiving the receipt failure reply via the asynchronous file transfer protocol.
In step 54, the PCI express switch 22 restarts and executes the firmware update file after the firmware update file is updated.
In summary, in the firmware update method of the PCI express switch of the present invention, the host computer 1 is used to remotely transmit the firmware update file to the baseboard management unit 21 via the wireless network 200, then the baseboard management unit 21 transmits the firmware update file to the PCI express switch 22 via the asynchronous file transfer protocol, and then the PCI express switch 22 uses the cyclic redundancy check method and/or the checksum method to confirm that the firmware update file is complete and correct, and then the firmware update of the PCI express switch 22 can be easily completed via remote operation without field wiring after the firmware update file is updated and restarted. Therefore, the object of the present invention can be achieved.

1. A firmware update method of a PCI express switch is implemented by a firmware update system, which includes a baseboard management unit connected with a computer host via a communication network, and a PCI express switch connected with the baseboard management unit, the PCI express switch is connected with a UART interface of the baseboard management unit via a UART interface, the method comprises the following steps:
(A) After receiving a firmware update file from the host computer and related to the peripheral component rapid interconnection switcher, the baseboard management unit transmits the firmware update file to the peripheral component rapid interconnection switcher;
(B) Generating and transmitting a successful receipt reply to the baseboard management unit after receiving the firmware update file by the peripheral component quick interconnection switcher;
(C) Generating and transmitting an update command related to the firmware update file to the PCI express switch after receiving the successful reply by the baseboard management unit;
(D) The peripheral component quick interconnection switcher is used for updating according to the firmware update file after receiving the update instruction; a kind of electronic device with high-pressure air-conditioning system
(E) By means of the peripheral component quick interconnection switcher, after the firmware updating file is updated, the firmware updating file is restarted and executed.
2. The method for firmware update of a PCI express switch as claimed in claim 1, wherein the step (B) comprises the steps of:
(B-1) determining whether the firmware update file is damaged during transmission after receiving the firmware update file by means of the peripheral component quick interconnect switch; a kind of electronic device with high-pressure air-conditioning system
(B-2) when the PCI express switch determines that the firmware update file is not damaged during the transmission process, the PCI express switch generating and transmitting the successful receipt reply to the baseboard management unit.

The method of claim 2, wherein in the step (a), the baseboard management unit generates and transmits a request for information related to the firmware update file to the host computer after receiving an update request from the host computer indicating that the PCI express switch needs to be updated, so that the host computer transmits the firmware update file to the baseboard management unit.

The method of claim 3, wherein in the step (a), the baseboard management unit detects whether the corresponding management network port in the baseboard management unit receives the update request from the host computer, and generates and transmits the information request to the host computer after detecting that the corresponding management network port receives the update request, so that the host computer transmits the firmware update file to the baseboard management unit.
5. The method of claim 2, wherein in the step (B-1), the PCI express switch uses a cyclic redundancy check method and a checksum method to determine whether the firmware update file is damaged during transmission.
6. The method of firmware update of a PCI express switch as claimed in claim 1, wherein the step (A) comprises the following sub-steps:
(a-1) transmitting a firmware update file transmission request to the peripheral component interconnect express switch by the baseboard management unit after receiving the firmware update file, so that the peripheral component interconnect express switch starts an asynchronous file transfer protocol; a kind of electronic device with high-pressure air-conditioning system
(a-2) transmitting the firmware update file to the PCI express switch by the baseboard management unit according to the asynchronous file transfer protocol.
