The main patent 546 888 relates to a system for starting and stopping an internal combustion engine, in particular in motor vehicles and motorcycles, in which, according to the claim of the main patent, means are provided to put the engine into operation by actuating a control switch.
It has been shown that this system can still be improved. The present invention is characterized in that a controlled switch is provided which interrupts the starter circuit when the engine is started and keeps it interrupted when the engine is running, and that the control input of the switch is connected to an electronic control device influenced by the engine speed.
This device enables the driver to switch off the engine even during short periods of standstill, since the system allows him to start and continue driving safely and quickly.
In the following, embodiments of the invention are explained in more detail with reference to a drawing.
The figure shows the block diagram of the exemplary embodiment described.
According to the figure, a scanning device 1 is connected to the input of a monostable multivibrator 3 via a pulse shaper 2. The scanning device 1 is connected to the ignition device of the motor vehicle and scans the ignition pulse sequence. For this purpose, for example, a sensing coil can be connected to one of the ignition cables or to the ignition distributor. Each of the ignition pulses induces a current in the scanning coil, which is fed to the pulse shaper 2. Of course, any other known device for generating scanning pulses can also be used as the scanning device.
The pulse shaper 2 converts the scanned pulse peaks into square-wave pulses, which can be processed by the subsequent monostable multivibrator 3.
The monostable multivibrator 3 is triggered by each of the incoming pulses. After the oscillation time T inherent to the multivibrator has elapsed, the circuit is automatically reset. The circuit is designed so that the monostable multivibrator 3 is started by the trailing edges of the incoming pulses. In a subsequent AND circuit 4, the output signal of the monostable multivibrator is compared with the arrival time of the next pulse. This is fed to the second input of the AND circuit, bypassing the monostable multivibrator.
If the time span until the next pulse is shorter than the oscillation time T of the monostable multivibrator, the AND circuit 4 emits an output pulse. If the period of time is greater than the oscillation time T, as is the case when the motor is running very slowly or at a standstill, however, no signal occurs at the output of the AND circuit.
A controllable switch 7 is actuated via a low-pass filter 5, which is used to smooth the output signal of the AND circuit 4. This switch 7, which corresponds to the oil pressure switch 7 in the main patent, switches the line 44, the designation of which was also taken from the main patent, to ground 9 when a control signal occurs.
The function of the switch 7 is absolutely identical to the function of the oil pressure switch 7 described in the main patent. Details are therefore not discussed further.
The monostable multivibrator 3 is preferably provided with a control input 6 via which the time constant T can be set. This input can be connected, for example, to a potentiometer device or any other setting device with the aid of which the time constant T of the multivibrator can be set. This means that the system can be set to the lower engine speed from which switch 7 is to close.
It should also be mentioned that it is also possible to connect the scanning device 1 to any other point on the engine, for example to the intake line. If the engine is started with the throttle valve closed, a negative pressure is created in the intake duct, which causes a corresponding scanning device to respond.
By means of the device described, the switch 7 can be made to respond in a particularly simple and reliable manner as a function of a specific engine speed. This allows a precise setting of the starting device, whereby the CO content of the engine exhaust gases can be kept extremely low during the starting process. In the course of measurements, it was found that in normal, well-tuned automobiles, the CO content briefly increases to 4-4.59 during starting. After the start-up process, it dropped to 1.80 / c. When using the starter device described, the CO content increased to only 2.5% during the start-up process.
