Machine tool, in particular machine for copying non-cylindrical parts The present invention relates to a machine tool, in particular a machine for copying non-cylindrical parts, comprising a hydraulic motor with piston and cylinder intended to move an element of said machine. alternately in two opposite directions, a source of pressurized fluid connected to one end of said cylinder and a source of pressurized fluid connected to the other end in order to actuate said motor in the two opposite directions.
The usual method of cutting a non-cylindrical rotating part consists in mounting it on a shaft on which is also disposed a jig which rotates while a feeler is in contact with it, and in making this rotating shaft oscillate in a backward movement. back and forth bringing it closer to and away from a grinding wheel. The jig and the feeler are generally kept in contact with each other by a sufficiently powerful spring to ensure constant cooperation between these two elements during the rotation. The jigs or master cams are generally sufficiently robust so that the force exerted by the spring is not sufficient to cause any deformation or any depression of the jig.
When the jig represents a turbine blade or other relatively light construction article, the force of such a spring holding the jig in contact with the feeler produces considerable stress on the jig, resulting in imprecision of the jig. workpiece.
The object of one of the preferred embodiments of the present invention is to remedy the above drawback by providing a machine in which the workpiece and the jig are mounted in the same relative position as in the machines. usual, but in which the jig controls the movement of the grinding wheel and not of the workpiece.
The machine according to the invention is characterized by a bypass arranged in one of the two hydraulic circuits connecting one of said sources to one of said ends, and by means for varying the section of this bypass, these means comprising a jig movable in relation to the workpiece and means actuated by said jig to change the balance of the fluid pressure at opposite ends of the cylinder, and means in said circuit for maintaining a constant volume of l fluid flow in this circuit.
The drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the object of the invention. Fig. 1 is a plan view of a copying machine.
The fia. 2 is a side elevational view of the grinding wheel support comprising an electrical and hydraulic diagram of the grinding wheel control, and FIG. 3 is a hydraulic diagram of the control of the relative longitudinal movement between the grinding wheel and the workpiece. 10 designates the frame of the copying machine. It designates a carriage for the workpiece intended to move longitudinally on the frame, and a support for the grinding wheel moving transversely on the frame.
The mechanism producing this transverse movement comprises a cylinder 20 fixed to the frame 10 and in which a piston 21 moves. The rod 22 of this piston is connected by an arm 23 to the support 12 of the grinding wheel. Fluid under pressure supplied by a pump 30 is admitted into the left part of the cylinder through a conduit 31, a bypass valve 33 and a conduit 34. A pump 40 sends fluid under pressure directly into the right part of the cylinder. 20 by a duct 45.
As a variant, the pump 40 could supply the straight part of the cylinder 20 via a conduit 41, a bypass valve 42 and a conduit 43.
The valves 33 and 42 are constructed so that the fluid which reaches them through the conduits 31 and 41 respectively is distributed in a predetermined proportion, between the conduits 34 and 43, on the one hand, leading to the cylinder 20, and conduits 35 and 46, on the other hand, leading respectively to two nozzles 36 and 47 located one opposite the other. Equal pressures are maintained in these conduits by balancing pieces 37 and 48 housed respectively in the valves 33 and 42. These nozzles are mounted on a support 50 which, in turn, can run smoothly on a support 51.
This support 51 is fixed to the support 12 of the grinding wheel. A shutter 55 is placed between the two facing nozzles; this shutter is movable horizontally so as to adjust the flow of fluid from the two nozzles. It is carried by a spacer 56 which is in turn fixed by springs 57 to a part 58 of the sliding support 50. A feeler 60 is fixed to the spacer 56 so that its position is vertically adjustable.
This feeler has a surface 61, in an arc of a circle, of approximately the same radius as the grinding wheel 13, resiliently held in contact with a non-cylindrical rotary jig 62.
A comparator 65 is fixed to a support 66 itself carried by the support 51. A stop 67 integral with the shutter 55, is in contact with the rod of the comparator 65 so as to indicate the variations in relative position between the support 12. of the grinding wheel and the feeler 60. The position of the support 50 on the support 51 can be adjusted by means of a screw 70 provided with a control chicken 71. One end of this screw is connected to an ear 72 of the support sliding 50, while the threaded part of the screw passes through a nut 73 fixed to the support 51.
A spring 74 serves to absorb the recoil movements which may occur between the lug 72 and the nut 73. A comparator 75 is fixed to a support 76 on the support 51. The feeler of this comparator comes into contact with a movable surface. of the support 50, so as to indicate the amplitude of the movements of the grinding wheel support 12.
The jig 62 is rotatably mounted on the carriage 11 of the workpiece 80, in axial alignment therewith, between a tailstock 82 and a tailstock 81. The carriage 11 can be moved so as to produce a translational movement between the grinding wheel 13 and the part 80, on the one hand, and the feeler 60 and the jig 62, on the other hand, by any suitable mechanism.
For the purpose of illustration, the hydraulic device for controlling the relative longitudinal movement between the grinding wheel and the workpiece has been shown in diagram form in FIG. 3. This device comprises a cylinder 100 fixed to the frame 10 of the machine. A piston 101 moving in this cylinder is connected by a rod 102 and a cleat 103 to the carriage 11. A pump 105 supplies the cylinder 100 by a conduit 106 and by a start and stop valve 107, actuated in a direction by a spring 108 and in the opposite direction by a solenoid 109.
From this start and stop valve, a pipe 110, fitted with a throttle 111, brings the pressurized fluid to a reversing valve 112 from which the fluid is directed to the two right and left parts. cylinder 100 through conduits 113 and 114 respectively. The reversing valve 112 can be controlled by a lever 115. A control knob 120, placed on the drive shaft 121 of the workpiece, actuates a switch 122 attached to the carriage 11. Each time the workpiece has completed one turn, this switch connects the solenoid 109 by wires 125 and 126 to a current source L1. L., is connected to the solenoid by a wire 127.
A determined quantity of pressurized fluid is then sent to the reversing valve and to the cylinder 100 to move the carriage 11 by a sufficient value to bring a new part of the workpiece opposite the grinding wheel. Operation The description of the operation of the machine described will be limited to the preferred embodiment thereof, in which the pump 40 is connected directly to the straight part of the cylinder 20 by a duct 45 thus producing a constant pressure in this part. of the cylinder; the valve 42, the duct 43 and the nozzle 47 are then eliminated.
It follows that the conduits 34 and 35 leading from the valve 33 respectively to the left part of the cylinder 20 and to the nozzle 36 constitute the connecting device between the outline of the jig 62 and the support 12 of the grinding wheel 13 rotatably mounted on him. The control is carried out by adjusting the pressure in the duct 34 above and below the constant pressure of the duct 45 by the movement of the shutter 55 opposite the nozzle 36 due to the rotation of the jig 62; these variations in the pressure in the duct 34 produce a predetermined reciprocating movement of the piston 21 and of the grinding wheel 13 attacking the workpiece 80.
Workpiece blank 80 and jig 62 are rotatably mounted on the machine as described above. The part 80 is driven by the doll 82, the details of which have not been shown. The pump 30 is controlled by any suitable means. The pressurized fluid is directed from there, through line 31, to valve 33, in which it is divided by constrictions 38 and 39 of different dimensions. Part of this fluid leaves the valve 33 through the conduit 34 to reach the left part of the cylinder 20 so as to maintain or move the piston 21, and consequently the support 12 of the grinding wheel 13, in the retracted position.
The other part of the fluid leaves the valve 33 through the conduit 35 to reach the nozzle 36. The part of the fluid directed to the cylinder 20 is further divided so as to be partially discharged through the valve 33 depending on the conditions under which cylinder 20. When piston 21 is stationary, all fluid passing through constriction 39 then passes through conduit 32. The pressure in conduit 35 will vary inversely with the distance between shutter 55 and nozzle. 36. As this gap between the plug and the nozzle increases, the pressure in the conduit 34 decreases under the control of the valve 33. This is almost a linear variation.
The pressure in the duct 34 and the left part of the cylinder 20 varies directly with the pressure in the duct 35 since the valve 33 maintains these two pressures equal, whether they increase or decrease. The flow of the stale fluid through the nozzle 36 is constant and thus is not affected by changes in temperature, load, etc. For any given change in the position of the shutter 55, the pressure variation in the conduits 34 and 35 and in the left part of the cylinder 20 will be the same. It is only by keeping the flow rate through the nozzle 36 constant that it is possible to get the piston 21 to move the tool support exactly in accordance with the outline of the jig 62.
The pressure in the duct 35 depends on the distance between the shutter 55 and the nozzle 36. The flow through the nozzle 36 is constant, regardless of the relative position between the latter and the shutter 55 or other factors. variables such as temperature, load, etc. The constant flow through the nozzle 36 is essential since it is the only way to produce the faithful transmission of the jig outline by a hydraulic connection in the form of a corresponding variation in pressure on one side of the cylinder 20 relative at constant pressure on the other side of this cylinder. The jet of fluid coming out of the nozzle 36 is, in fact,
analogous to a mechanical lever. A change in the flow velocity would be equivalent to a movement of the cutting tool towards or away from the workpiece.
The pressure in line 34 acts on a switch 150 to close a circuit from L., through lines 151 and 152, to the drive motor of pump 40. There is a direct connection from L1, through line 153 , to this engine. The pump 40 sends fluid through the conduits 41 and 45 to the head portion of the cylinder 20. The direction of movement of the piston 21, and therefore of the support 12 and of the grinding wheel 13, will be determined by the pressure variations in the cylinder. led 34.
These pressure variations are obtained by the movements of the shutter 55 modifying the speed of flow of the fluid through the nozzle 36 as a function of the rotation of the jig 62 bearing against the feeler 61. When the shutter 55 is moved in the direction of the nozzle 36, decreasing the opening for the passage of the fluid, the increase in pressure in the duct 35 is transmitted by the valve 33 and the duct 34 to the left part of the cylinder 20.
The piston 21 is moved to the right in order to bring the grinding wheel 13 into the position in which it engages the portion of the workpiece 80 corresponding angularly to the portion of the jig 62 in contact with the feeler 61. Like the jig rotates, the feeler 61 and the shutter 55 can move to the left following the contour of this template, thus increasing the space between the shutter and the nozzle 36 and thus reducing the pressure in the duct 35 and in the left part of cylinder 20 to a value lower than that of the pressure in the right part of cylinder 20.
The piston 21 then moves to the left to cause the grinding wheel 13 to grind another part of the workpiece 80 corresponding to the part of the jig 62 then in contact with the feeler 61. As there is no valve of inversion to direct the fluid alternately towards the opposite ends of the cylinder 20, the means for changing the direction of movement of the piston 21 depend only on the pressure variations in the duct 35 and are immediately reflected in the left part of the cylinder 20,
thus eliminating delays due to the operation of a reversing valve. The role of the valve 42 is to transform the variations in flow rate of the nozzle 47 into pressure variations in the duct 43 as the valve 33 transforms the variations in flow rate of the nozzle 36 into pressure variations in the duct 34. Thus, when that the template 62 actuates the shutter 55, the flow rates through the nozzles 36 and 47 are modified alternately depending on the contour of this template and produce a reciprocal movement of the piston 21 and the grinding wheel 13 relative to the workpiece 80.
The toc 120 is fixed to the shaft 121 of the headstock and is used to actuate the switch 122 once per revolution of the part 80. This switch is connected between the lines 125 and 12: 6 connecting L1 to the solenoid 109 which is connected , by line 127, to L2. The solenoid 109 moves the valve 107 against the action of the spring 108 in order to connect the pump 105 to the head end of the cylinder 100, by the pipes 106 and 110, the throttle 111 and the valve. reversal 112, placed in the position in which it feeds the duct 113; the piston 10,1, connected by the rod 102 and the cleat 103 to the carriage 11, is thus moved.
The supply of the solenoid 9 is momentary, so that only a small quantity of fluid penetrates into the cylinder 100, sufficient to move the carriage 11 and bring the next zone of the part 80 opposite the grinding wheel 13.
