Abstract

The method is based on cooperation between a private branch exchange and a data processing system. From the latter it is possible to transmit, for example, control data for an automatic connection sequence between two terminal devices (T1, Te or T1, Tn) to the private branch exchange (NA). With sequences in the exchange which are initiated by the data processing system, at least some of the signals transmitted between these installations are constructed in such a way that the user data section of a signal also comprising at least a control data section as well includes both the information necessary for a process to be initiated thereby and additional information on one or more switching sequences or other sequences to do with this process. In the case of the connection set-up controlled by the data processing system it is possible, for example, for a signal to include in its user data section information on the respective call durations of the individual terminal devices between which the connection is to be established. Furthermore, it may also contain information on the type of the necessary acknowledgements. Such a combination dispenses with the need for signals to be additionally transmitted, as a result of which, in particular for special applications such as for example the alarm call service, the necessary data throughput does not lead to the data channel being overloaded. <IMAGE>
