Abstract

The method involves, before the operation of the fire release device, selectively at least one of the cannons is inactivated, in order to prevent the despatch of projectiles (16) when the fire release device is operated. The target is an aircraft (10), the timewise flight path of which is determined. The timewise flight path of the projectile from the non-inactivated cannon (12) is determined. The flight paths of the flying target and the projectile fired from the non-inactivated cannon are compared and from the comparison the defined minimal distance between the flying target and a fictitious projectile is defined as a firing error of the non-inactivated cannon. The fictitious flight path of a fictitious projectile is determined from the aiming position of the inactivated cannon at the moment of operation of the firing release device.
