N : Title: A Fire Lighting Device
This invention relates to a device for lighting a fire.
The inventor is aware that firelighters are used to light fires. However, often the wood, or in particular charcoal smothers the firelighter which makes it difficult to get the fire going.
An object of the invention, a portable device for lighting a fire, which device is to be used with fuel impregnated fire lighters or fuel tablets.
General description of the invention : According to the invention a device is provided for lighting a fire, which device includes: i) a metal grid; and ii) a support for keeping the grid off a bottom of a fireplace and configured to allow airflow through the support and grid over a firelighter into the combustible material, in use.
The metal grid should preferably be expanded metal. The metal grid should preferably be rectangular and dimensioned to be slightly wider than commercially available firelighter boxes or packets. The supports may simply be opposed edge portions from a rectangular piece of expanded metal that have been bent transverse to the grid on one side of the grid, to have a u-shaped end view. The supports may be dimensioned to be about the same length as the thickness of commercially available firelighter boxes or packets.
[EN '
The invention also extends to a firelighter kit or a promotional item for : commercially available firelighter boxes or packets, wherein a box or packet of firelighters is packaged together with the device for lighting a fire, preferably with the box or packet nestling snugly(securely?) within the device.
The kit may also include a reusable bag or box for storing the device and a commercially available firelighter box or packet.
The bag or box should be of a durable material and should include a pocket for matches or a butane lighter. The bag should further be dust proof to prevent the device from soiling its surrounding with black coal dust or ash.
The bag may be branded for promotional purposes with the brand of a commercially available firelighter box or packet, for example.
It will be appreciated that the device for lighting a fire will prevent the firelighter from being smothered by charcoal pieces, while the kit provides a useful, clean, handy and portable fire starter kit.
The applicant also believes that replacement devices can be sold for the kit as the device burns up over time. The device and kit also provide an ideal promotion opportunity for commercially available firelighter boxes or packets.
The invention is now described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing. :
In the drawings: i) Figure 1 shows diagrammatically perspective view of a device for lighting a fire, in accordance with the invention; and ii) Figure 2 shows a side view of the device for lighting a fire, in use.

LAN .
With reference to the drawings; the fire lighting device, in accordance with the . invention, is generally indicated by reference number 10.
The fire lighting device 10 is part of a firelighter kit which is not shown, and the device includes a metal grid 12, and a pair of supports 14 for keeping the grid off a bottom 16 of a fireplace and configured to allow airflow through the support and grid over a firelighter 18 into the combustible material, in use.
The metal grid 10 is made of expanded metal, rectangular and dimensioned to be slightly wider than commercially available firelighter boxes or packets. The supports 14 are opposed edge portions from a rectangular piece of expanded metal that has been bent transverse to the grid 12 to one side of the grid, to have a u-shaped end view. The supports 14 are dimensioned to be about the same length as the thickness of commercially available firelighter boxes or packets.
The firelighter kit can also be sold as a promotional item for commercially. available firelighter boxes or packets. The kit includes the device 10 and a box or packet of firelighters is packaged together with the device for lighting a fire, preferably with the box or packet nestling snugly within the device. The kit further includes a dust proof reusable bag for storing the device 10 and a commercially available firelighter box and a butane lighter. The bag is branded : for promotional purposes with the brand of a commercially available firelighter box.
The example is provided for illustrating the invention further and to assist a person skilled in the art of understanding it and should not be construed as unduly limiting the reasonable scope of the invention.
