Definitions
- the present invention relates to a navigation system and a method for using a navigation system. More particularly but not exclusively the present invention relates to a user interface of a navigation system having a parametric section.
- Navigation systems are important features of modem vehicles, providing drivers with essential information for route guidance, traffic updates, weather updates and points of interest (POIs).
- POIs points of interest
- these systems display various types of information such as maps, directions, traffic conditions, weather and POIs on separate screens or in distinct sections of a display panel.
- this conventional approach poses several challenges and limitations that can hinder user experience and efficiency.
- the separate display of information can compromise the clarity and comprehensiveness of the information presented. For example, critical updates such as sudden changes in traffic conditions or urgent alerts may not be prominently displayed if they are relegated to a secondary screen or section. This can potentially impact driver safety and decision-making abilities, as timely and clear information presentation is crucial for navigating effectively.
- the present invention aims to overcome these challenges by providing a novel user interface of a navigation system having a parametric section that consolidates different types of navigation information into a unified and intelligently organized output, thereby not only enhancing user experience and safety but also contributing to the overall efficiency and attractiveness of automotive navigation systems in the modem vehicles.

Description
TITLE OF INVENTION:
A NAVIGATION SYSTEM AND A METHOD FOR USING THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM THEREOF
TECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The present invention relates to a navigation system and a method for using a navigation system. More particularly but not exclusively the present invention relates to a user interface of a navigation system having a parametric section.
BACKGROUND
[0002] Navigation systems are important features of modem vehicles, providing drivers with essential information for route guidance, traffic updates, weather updates and points of interest (POIs). Typically, these systems display various types of information such as maps, directions, traffic conditions, weather and POIs on separate screens or in distinct sections of a display panel. However, this conventional approach poses several challenges and limitations that can hinder user experience and efficiency.
[0003] Firstly, displaying different types of information on separate screens or sections often results in fragmented user interaction. Users may need to switch between screens or sections to access different types of information, which can be distracting and time-consuming, particularly while driving. This fragmentation can lead to cognitive overload as users attempt to process and integrate information from multiple sources.
[0004] Secondly, the separate display of information can compromise the clarity and comprehensiveness of the information presented. For example, critical updates such as sudden changes in traffic conditions or urgent alerts may not be prominently displayed if they are relegated to a secondary screen or section. This can potentially impact driver safety and decision-making abilities, as timely and clear information presentation is crucial for navigating effectively.
[0005] Additionally, accessibility constraints on navigational information tires the user in consistent zooming in and zooming out of the user interface. For instance,
based on the dimensions of the user interface displaying the navigation data, the user may have to re-adjust the layout by enacting zoom-in and zoom-out commands. The user dictated transition of the same navigational layout in various resolutions often leads to re-enactment of default layout settings which was undesirable in the first stance.
[0006] In some available user interfaces, when the user wishes to access an overview of the navigational data or route information, the user often enacts a zoom-out function which displays the entire route. However, returning or re-routing to the earlier navigational view encompasses re-affirming the default layout and takes some processing time.
[0007] Furthermore, the spatial constraints of vehicle dashboards and display panels limit the size and number of screens available for navigation information. Separate displays for each type of information may result in inefficient use of space and could contribute to cluttered and confusing interfaces. This clutter can further detract from the usability of the navigation system, especially in high-stress driving situations where quick and intuitive access to information is paramount.
[0008] In addition to usability concerns, the separate display of navigation information can affect the aesthetics of the vehicle interior. Multiple screens or sections on the dashboard may disrupt the visual harmony and integrity intended by automotive manufacturers, potentially diminishing the overall user experience and appeal of the vehicle.
[0009] Addressing these challenges requires innovative solutions that streamline the configuration and presentation of navigation information while enhancing usability, safety, and aesthetic considerations. By integrating various types of information into a cohesive and user-friendly display format, the navigation system can offer drivers a more intuitive and efficient means of accessing critical information while minimizing distractions and cognitive load.
[0010] The present invention aims to overcome these challenges by providing a novel user interface of a navigation system having a parametric section that consolidates different types of navigation information into a unified and intelligently organized output, thereby not only enhancing user experience and
safety but also contributing to the overall efficiency and attractiveness of automotive navigation systems in the modem vehicles.
[0011] Further limitations and disadvantages of conventional and traditional approaches will become apparent to one of skill in the art, through comparison of described systems with some aspects of the present disclosure, as set forth in the remainder of the present application and with reference to the drawings

For example, to start a journey the user feeds one or more inputs to the navigation system (300) based on the plurality of real-time information (302A, 302B, 302C) available at the time (stipulated prediction). After starting the journey if there is any change in the plurality of real-time information (302A, 302B,

The single frame allows the plurality of outputs (305A, 305B, 305C) to be overlaid directly onto the parametric section (204), providing context- sensitive information that prevents the need to switch between the navigation section (201), and the parametric section (204).
[0063] The parametric section (204) comprises one or more segments (205) and one or more graphic elements (207). The one or more segments (205) are a predetermined division of a scaled route of travel (206) of the user. Based on the inputs from the user the scale route of travel (206) may be divided into sections of 1, 3 or 5 km each. The scaled route of travel (206) is configured to depict pictorially
a total distance covered by the user and a total distance remained in the form of at least one of percentage and fraction. The one or more segments (205) is configured to convey the plurality of user route parameter outputs (305B) and a plurality of ambient parameter outputs (305C) of the plurality of outputs (305A, 305B, 305C). The one or more graphic elements (207) are configured to move along the scaled route of travel (206) based on the value of a plurality of user route parameter outputs (305B). In an embodiment, the one or more graphic elements (207) move along the scaled route of travel (206) to show either a total distance covered by the user or the remaining distance of the journey based on the preference of the user.

Having a magnified view improves safety as it reduces the burden on the user to view the information displayed and reduces stress associated with navigating unfamiliar or complex road networks. Additionally, for example, in an event 10 km of the route is remaining to be covered by the user, the route is segmented in 10 parts of 1km each. In these 10 parts, each part is interfaced with the existent traffic conditions and the weather conditions. For instance, if at the 5km segment a rainfall is expected, the user may receive a pop-up notification displaying potential rainfall in say 10 mins (10 mins being the expected arrival time at the 5km segment). Further, the user interface (200) is accordingly adjusted.
[0068] In another example of the present disclosure, if a battery’s state of charge (the vehicle being an electric vehicle) or the fuel available is low (for internal combustion vehicles), the parametric section (204) conveys upcoming charging stations or petrol pumps along the scaled route (206) and accordingly notifies the user. For instance, a petrol pump signal may be displayed at the 5 km mark if a petrol pump be encountered then.

A fourth step of the plurality of steps involves conveying (504), the plurality of outputs (305A, 305B, 305C) to a user of the vehicle (100) through a parametric section (204) of a user interface (200) for a display unit (306).

[0079] Having all relevant information in the parametric section (204) allows for better data integration. For example, the plurality of outputs (305A, 305B, 305C) can be overlaid directly onto the parametric section (204), providing context- sensitive information that enhances route planning and navigation decisions.
[0080] A unified user interface (200) can offer flexibility in displaying information based on user preferences. This capability allows users to tailor the navigation system (200) to their specific needs and preferences and makes it ergonomically efficient.
