- Changes in physical functions include, for example, a decline in dynamic vision, a decline in the ability to process multiple types of information simultaneously, and a decline in the ability to make instant decisions.
- Human functions can gradually decline, for example, due to aging, and it is difficult for drivers to notice delays in judgment when steering or braking during everyday driving.
- Patent Document 1 discloses estimating a driver's driving fitness status, i.e., estimating the driver's state while driving. Patent Document 1 estimates whether the driver's driving fitness status is a normal driving status or an abnormal driving status.
- An abnormal driving status is a driver state that differs from the normal state, such as a drowsy state, a drunk state, or a distracted state. With the technology in Patent Document 1, it is difficult to detect, for example, gradual changes in a driver's driving characteristics over several years.
- driving characteristics requiring caution Even if it is detected that a driver's driving characteristics have changed to driving characteristics requiring caution, advice such as that disclosed in Patent Document 2 alone will not allow the driver to drive the vehicle safely.
- One purpose of this disclosure is to provide a driving assistance system, in-vehicle device, driving assistance method, and computer program that enable the driver to drive the vehicle safely when a change in the driver's driving characteristics to driving characteristics requiring caution is detected, or when signs of such a change are detected.
- This disclosure provides a driving assistance system, in-vehicle device, driving assistance method, and computer program that enable the driver to drive the vehicle safely when a change in the driver's driving characteristics to driving characteristics requiring caution is detected, or when signs of such a change are detected.
- the present disclosure may also be implemented as a system including the above-described driving assistance system, an apparatus including the above-described in-vehicle device, a method including the above-described driving assistance method, or a computer program including the above-described computer program.
- Embodiments of the present disclosure will be described below. At least a portion of the embodiments described below may be combined with at least a portion of other embodiments.
- the driving assistance system disclosed herein includes a driving characteristic change detection device that detects changes in the driving characteristics of a driver who drives a vehicle using vehicle data related to the vehicle's driving, and an on-board device that, upon detection by the driving characteristic change detection device that the driver's driving characteristics have transitioned to driving characteristics requiring caution or that indicates that the driver's driving characteristics are about to transition to driving characteristics requiring caution, assists the driver in driving the vehicle in accordance with the driving characteristics requiring caution. This enables the driver to drive the vehicle safely when the driver's driving characteristics have changed to driving characteristics requiring caution or when a sign of a transition to driving characteristics requiring caution is detected.
- the in-vehicle device may request the driver to input a destination, and upon receiving the destination input, present as a recommended route a route that corresponds to the driver's cautious driving characteristics from among multiple driving routes from the vehicle's current position to the destination. This allows the driver to be presented with an appropriate route that enables safe driving of the vehicle in accordance with the driver's cautious driving characteristics.
- the caution-requiring driving characteristics may be classified into multiple groups depending on the vehicle driving conditions that cause the driver's driving characteristics to be detected as having transitioned to caution-requiring driving characteristics. This allows the driver's caution-requiring driving characteristics to be appropriately classified.
- the driving conditions may be identified by at least one of time data when the vehicle is driving, weather data when the vehicle is driving, vehicle position data, driver biometric data, and vehicle driving history data. This makes it possible to appropriately determine whether the driver's driving characteristics require caution.
- the multiple groups may include a first group indicating poor night vision. If the driver's driving characteristics correspond to those of the first group, the in-vehicle device may determine, as the recommended route, a route that includes roads with a greater number of streetlights from among the multiple driving routes. This allows a driver with poor night vision to be presented with a route that allows them to drive the vehicle more safely.
- the multiple groups may include a second group indicating reduced dynamic visual acuity. If the driver's driving characteristics correspond to those of the second group, the in-vehicle device may determine, as the recommended route, a route that does not include expressways or a route that uses expressways to the least extent, from among the multiple driving routes. This allows a driver with reduced dynamic visual acuity to be presented with a route that allows them to drive the vehicle more safely.
- the multiple groups may include a third group indicating reduced muscle strength or reduced physical strength. If the driver's driving characteristics fall into the driving characteristics of the third group, the in-vehicle device may determine, as the recommended route, a route that passes through a rest point at predetermined intervals from among the multiple driving routes. This makes it possible to present routes that allow drivers with reduced muscle strength or physical strength to drive the vehicle more safely.
- the multiple groups may include a fourth group indicating reduced peripheral vision. If the driver's driving characteristics fall into the driving characteristics of the fourth group, the in-vehicle device may determine, as the recommended route, the route that has the greatest degree of utilization of roads that the vehicle has traveled in the past, from among the multiple routes. This makes it possible to present a route that allows the driver with reduced peripheral vision to drive the vehicle more safely.
- the in-vehicle device may determine whether the vehicle has traveled according to the recommended route.
- the determination result by the in-vehicle device may be reflected in the automobile insurance premium for the vehicle. This may motivate a driver with cautious driving characteristics to travel along the recommended route, allowing the driver to drive the vehicle more safely.
- the in-vehicle device of the present disclosure queries the driving characteristic change detection device of any one of the driving assistance systems (1) to (9) above as to whether the driving characteristics of the driver driving the vehicle have transitioned to driving characteristics requiring caution, or whether there are any signs that the driver's driving characteristics will transition to driving characteristics requiring caution.
- the in-vehicle device Upon receiving notification from the driving characteristic change detection device that the driver's driving characteristics have transitioned to driving characteristics requiring caution, or that there are any signs of this, the in-vehicle device assists the driver in driving the vehicle in accordance with the driving characteristics requiring caution. This enables the driver to drive the vehicle safely when the driver's driving characteristics have changed to driving characteristics requiring caution, or when signs of a transition to driving characteristics requiring caution are detected.
- the driving assistance method disclosed herein includes the steps of acquiring vehicle data related to vehicle driving, detecting changes in the driving characteristics of the driver who drives the vehicle using the vehicle data acquired in the acquisition step, and assisting the driver in driving in accordance with the driving characteristics after the driver's driving characteristics have transitioned to driving characteristics requiring caution or in response to detection of signs that the driver's driving characteristics will transition to driving characteristics requiring caution. This makes it possible to provide appropriate driving assistance when the driver's driving characteristics have changed to driving characteristics requiring caution or when signs of a transition to driving characteristics requiring caution are detected, enabling the driver to drive the vehicle safely.
- the computer program disclosed herein causes a computer to acquire vehicle data related to vehicle driving, use the vehicle data to detect changes in the driving characteristics of the driver who drives the vehicle, and upon detecting that the driver's driving characteristics have transitioned to driving characteristics requiring caution or detecting signs that the driver's driving characteristics are about to transition to driving characteristics requiring caution, provides driving assistance to the driver in accordance with the driving characteristics requiring caution when driving the vehicle. This allows appropriate driving assistance to be provided when the driver's driving characteristics have changed to driving characteristics requiring caution or when signs of a transition to driving characteristics requiring caution are detected, enabling the driver to drive the vehicle safely.

- the server 200 uses data transmitted from the in-vehicle device 100 to detect changes in the driving characteristics of the driver driving the vehicle 60.
- the server 200 is a driving characteristic change detection device.
- the server 200 is, for example, a cloud server. However, the server 200 is not limited to this and may be another server device such as an on-premise server or an edge server.

- the incidental data includes biosensor data of the driver.
- the biosensor data is sensor data from a biosensor.
- the biosensor may be a seating sensor, which is a body pressure sensor (pressure sensor) installed in the driver's seat inside the vehicle 60.
- the biosensor may also be a biodata measuring device.
- the biodata measuring device is, for example, a wearable device worn by the driver or a fitness tracker.
- the biodata measuring device may be used together with the seating sensor.
- the measurement data used as biosensor data may be the driver's heart rate data, driver stress data, and driver physical condition data. If the vehicle 60 is equipped with an onboard camera that captures images of the exterior of the vehicle 60, the image data (image data) captured by the onboard camera may be used as incidental data.
- the image data from the onboard camera can provide environmental data about the environment when the vehicle 60 is traveling. For example, it can be determined from the image data whether the vehicle 60 is traveling at night, whether the road on which the vehicle 60 is traveling is congested, and whether the weather at the vehicle 60's location is rainy. If it is raining, it can be determined that the vehicle 60 has poor forward visibility.
- the in-vehicle device 100 receives vehicle data of the vehicle 60 from the vehicle 60 at a predetermined sampling period.
- the in-vehicle device 100 receives additional data from the biometric sensors at a predetermined sampling period.
- the additional data includes biometric sensor data of the driver.
- the in-vehicle device 100 transmits this data to the server 200.
- the server 200 receives vehicle data and additional data transmitted from the in-vehicle device 100.
- the server 200 also communicates with an external server 90, which is an external data source.
- the external server 90 may consist of multiple servers, or it may be a single server.
- the external server 90 provides environmental data external to the vehicle 60 while the vehicle 60 is traveling. In this case, the environmental data includes, for example, weather data and time data. Of this data, the server 200 primarily uses the vehicle data to detect changes in the driving characteristics of the driver of the vehicle 60.
- Changes in a driver's driving characteristics include changes from normal driving characteristics to driving characteristics requiring caution.
- Normal driving characteristics are, for example, driving characteristics that allow a driver to drive normally.
- Driving characteristics requiring caution are driving characteristics that may make safe driving difficult, for example, due to a decline in the driver's physical functions.
- Drivers' driving characteristics often change over time, for example, over a period of one year or more or several years. For this reason, it is difficult for drivers to notice when their driving characteristics have changed to driving characteristics requiring caution during their daily driving.
- delays in steering or braking decisions are likely to occur when a driver with driving characteristics requiring caution is driving, but delays in steering or braking decisions can also occur when a driver with normal driving characteristics is driving. Delays in steering or braking decisions may be a fluctuation within normal driving characteristics. Therefore, even if a delay in decision-making occurs, it is difficult for a driving assistance system to immediately determine that the driver's driving characteristics have changed from normal driving characteristics to driving characteristics requiring caution, and it is also difficult for the driver to immediately determine that their driving characteristics have changed from normal driving characteristics to driving characteristics requiring caution.
- server 200 uses vehicle data transmitted from in-vehicle device 100 to capture subtle changes in the driver's usual accelerator and braking behavior of vehicle 60. By accumulating these changes, server 200 detects that the driver's driving characteristics have changed to those requiring caution. When driving assistance system 50 detects that the driver's driving characteristics have changed to those requiring caution, driving assistance system 50 notifies the driver of the change in driving characteristics, making the driver aware of the change in driving characteristics and presenting the driver with a route that allows safe driving.
- driver characteristics include, for example, poor night vision, poor dynamic vision, poor physical strength, poor muscle strength, or poor peripheral vision.
- Driving characteristics requiring caution are likely to lead to delayed reactions. Therefore, it is important to detect when a driver's driving characteristics have transitioned to driving characteristics requiring caution before the characteristics become apparent, and to either warn the driver or guide them to a situation where delayed reactions will not occur.
- cautionary driving characteristics include multiple types of driving characteristics. Therefore, if it is known what type of driving characteristics the driver has changed to, it will be possible to more effectively alert the driver or guide the driver to a situation where there will be no delayed reaction.
- the driving assistance system 50 estimates the driver's driving characteristics after the change in more detail based on the vehicle position data and accompanying data received from the in-vehicle device 100, as well as environmental data from the external server 90.

- the accessory data receiving unit 170 includes a biometric data receiving unit 172 and an image data receiving unit 174.
- the biometric data receiving unit 172 receives sensor data from the seating sensor 312 via the in-vehicle network 330 and transmits the sensor data as accessory data to the server 200 via the communication unit 140. More specifically, the biometric data receiving unit 172 receives the driver's seat pressure data from the seating sensor 312 and calculates the driver's center of gravity position based on the seat pressure data. In other words, the biometric data receiving unit 172 extracts data on the driver's center of gravity position from the seat pressure data. The biometric data receiving unit 172 transmits the seat pressure data or center of gravity position data to the server 200 as sensor data.
- the biometric data receiving unit 172 may also receive the driver's biometric data measured by the biometric data measuring device 314 and transmit it to the server 200 via the communication unit 140.

- the warning notification unit 180 receives a notification of a change in the driver's driving characteristics from the server 200 (see Figure 1) via the communication unit 140, and transmits the received notification to, for example, the in-vehicle navigation system 320 via the in-vehicle network 330.
- the in-vehicle navigation system 320 issues a warning to the driver.
- the warning may, for example, indicate that the driver's driving characteristics have changed, and that the change may cause the driver to be unable to drive safely.
- control unit 210 of server 200 includes, as functional units, a data acquisition unit 250, a detection processing unit 252, a setting acceptance unit 254, a notification unit 256, and a normal driving characteristic transition notification unit 258.

- the data acquired by data acquisition unit 250 is stored in storage device 220.
- Detection processing unit 252 uses the data stored in storage device 220 to detect changes in the driving characteristics of the driver who drives the vehicle.
- the detection processing unit 252 includes a judgment unit 260, an accumulation unit 262, a driving characteristic change detection unit 264, a normal driving characteristic detection unit 266, and an estimation unit 268.
- the judgment unit 260 judges whether the vehicle data (driving data) indicates normal driving characteristics or driving characteristics requiring caution by referring to a first distribution indicating normal driving characteristics and a second distribution indicating driving characteristics requiring caution.
- the first distribution indicating normal driving characteristics and the second distribution indicating driving characteristics requiring caution are pre-stored in the storage device 220, for example.
- the accumulation unit 262 has a counter for the level of caution required. The accumulation unit 262 does not count vehicle data that the judgment unit 260 judges to indicate normal driving characteristics as requiring caution, and maintains the count value of the level of caution.
- the accumulation unit 262 increases the count value of the level of caution for vehicle data that the judgment unit 260 judges to indicate driving characteristics requiring caution, thereby accumulating the level of caution.
- the driving characteristic change detection unit 264 detects that the driver's driving characteristics have transitioned to driving characteristics requiring caution if the count value of the level of caution is equal to or greater than a predetermined threshold.
- the normal driving characteristic detection unit 266 detects that the driver's driving characteristics have transitioned to driving characteristics requiring caution and then returned to normal driving characteristics.
- the estimation unit 268 estimates the driver's driving characteristics in more detail based on, for example, the driver's biometric data or environmental data outside the vehicle 60 while it is traveling.
- the environmental data is, for example, weather data.
- the setting reception unit 254 receives the setting of the period for accumulating the level of caution in the process of detecting changes in driving characteristics.
- the accumulation unit 262 of the detection processing unit 252 accumulates the level of caution for the period accepted by the setting reception unit 254. In other words, the accumulation unit 262 calculates the accumulated value of the level of caution for the period accepted by the setting reception unit 254. After the period accepted by the setting reception unit 254 has elapsed, the accumulation unit 262 continues to accumulate the level of caution for a period of the same length.
- the administrator 70 can set the period via the setting reception unit 254 by operating the terminal device 72 (see Figure 1).

- ⁇ Method for detecting changes in driving characteristics A method for detecting changes in a driver's driving characteristics will be described with reference to Fig. 6.
- states where safe driving may be impossible are counted over time, and when the count value (cumulative value) is equal to or exceeds a predetermined threshold, it is determined that the driver has transitioned to a driving characteristic requiring caution.
- the state where safe driving may be impossible is also referred to as the level of caution required.
- Fig. 6A An example of the distribution is shown in Fig. 6A.
- the horizontal axis of the graph in Fig. 6A represents the analysis target value (x), and the vertical axis represents the distribution P(x).
- the distribution P(x) is, for example, a frequency or a probability.
- p(x) is a distribution indicating normal driving characteristics
- p'(x) is a distribution indicating cautious driving characteristics. These cautious driving characteristics are, for example, driving characteristics that result in delayed reactions.
- Driving data can be used for the analysis target value (x).
- FIG. 6B An example of the time series transition of the analysis target value (x) is shown in Fig. 6B.
- the horizontal axis of the graph in Fig. 6B represents time (t), and the vertical axis represents the analysis target value (x).
- the analysis target value (x) When the analysis target value (x) is monitored, if the driver's driving characteristics are normal, the analysis target value (x) will be equal to or close to ⁇ . If the driver's driving characteristics require caution, the analysis target value (x) will be equal to or close to ⁇ '.
- Time series transition of caution level (a) An example of time series transition of the caution level (a) is shown in Fig. 6C.
- the horizontal axis of the graph in Fig. 6C represents time (t), and the vertical axis represents the caution level (a).
- the level of caution a(x) is defined by the following formula (1):
- a(x) If the value of a(x) is positive, it is determined that the driver's driving characteristics are likely to be those requiring caution. If the value of a(x) is negative, it is determined that the driver's driving characteristics are likely to be normal.
- Time series transition of cumulative caution level (I) An example of time series transition of the cumulative caution level value (I) is shown in Fig. 6D.
- the horizontal axis of the graph in Fig. 6D represents time (t), and the vertical axis represents the cumulative caution level value (I).
- FIG. 7 shows an example of driving data of a driver with normal driving characteristics.
- a driver with normal driving characteristics will also be referred to as a "normal driver.”
- FIG. 8 shows an example of driving data of a driver who may have driving characteristics requiring caution.
- a driver who may have driving characteristics requiring caution will also be referred to as a "driver requiring caution.”
- the horizontal axis in FIG. 7 and FIG. 8 represents time t.
- the vertical axis in FIG. 7 represents speed v(t), and the vertical axis in FIG. 8 represents accelerator opening ac(t).
- the accelerator opening of a normal driver changes relatively smoothly.
- the accelerator opening of a driver requiring caution changes abruptly and not smoothly. It is thought that drivers requiring caution tend to be slow to make decisions about acceleration and deceleration due to stiff ankle joints or an inability to fully grasp the situation. For this reason, it is thought that the accelerator work of drivers requiring caution is not uniform.
- the time series data of the accelerator opening during acceleration and cruising may be the data to be analyzed (the value to be analyzed (x)).
- the time series data of the accelerator opening is the difference in the accelerator opening per unit time.
- Figure 9 shows the frequency distribution of the accelerator opening difference per unit time during cruising.
- the accelerator opening is time-series data x(t n ) at unit time ( ⁇ t) intervals, and the accelerator opening difference per unit time is the difference between adjacent data, i.e., x(t n ) - x(t n-1 ).
- Figure 10 shows the frequency distribution of the accelerator opening difference per unit time during acceleration.
- the horizontal axis of Figures 9 and 10 represents the accelerator opening difference per unit time, and the vertical axis represents frequency.
- the accelerator opening differences of normal drivers are concentrated at 0 and 5, and their accelerator work is uniform.
- the frequency of accelerator opening differences of 0 and 5 for cautionary drivers is lower than that of normal drivers.
- Relatively large accelerator opening differences such as 20 and -30 are also observed among cautionary drivers.
- the distribution of accelerator opening differences for cautionary drivers tends to be wider along the horizontal axis than that of normal drivers.
- the peak positions (modes) of the two distributions are nearly equal, but the variances of the two distributions are different. Even in such cases, the level of caution can be expressed using equation (1).
- the frequency distribution during acceleration shows the same trend as the frequency distribution during cruising (see Figure 9).
- the frequency distribution during acceleration for drivers requiring caution tends to be wider along the horizontal axis than the distribution for normal drivers.
- the driving data is not limited to accelerator opening, but may also be time-series data such as brake pressure and steering angle.
- the vehicle data and accompanying data transmitted from the in-vehicle device 100 and the environmental data acquired from the external server 90 are stored in the storage device 220 of the server 200 .
- the computer program includes step S1000, which sets the input period as the period for accumulating the caution level and terminates the computer program.
- the administrator 70 can operate the terminal device 72 (see Figure 1) to input the period for accumulating the caution level.
- the period for accumulating the caution level can be any period, but is, for example, 30 days.
- This computer program is executed by server 200 (see Figure 1) to detect changes in the driver's driving characteristics based on cruising data.
- the computer program is started, for example, according to a preset schedule. For example, the computer program is started at a certain time every day.
- the computer program includes steps S2000, S2010, and S2020.
- step S2000 driving data is obtained from storage device 220 (see Figure 3).
- step S2010 is executed after step S2000.
- step S2010 cruising data is extracted from the driving data.
- steps S2030 to S2060 described below, are executed for each unit time interval of data.
- step S2020 is repeated until all data for the unit time interval has been processed. In other words, if the loop is not exited to notify the administrator, step S2020 is repeated until all cruising data has been processed.
- step S2010 it is determined whether or not the vehicle is cruising, for example, based on whether the speed change is within a predetermined range.
- step S2020 the process repeated until all data for a unit time interval has been processed includes steps S2030, S2040, S2050, and S2060.
- the process repeated until all data for a unit time interval has been processed is a process of calculating and accumulating a level of caution.
- step S2030 a difference from the previous data per unit time, i.e., a difference between two adjacent data in the time series data for the unit time interval, is calculated.
- step S2040 is executed after step S2030.
- step S2040 the calculated difference is used as the analysis target value (x) to calculate a level of caution (a) by referring to a distribution indicating normal driving characteristics and a distribution indicating driving characteristics requiring caution.
- Step S2050 is executed after step S2040.
- step S2050 a level of caution is accumulated according to the calculated level of caution (a).
- Step S2060 is executed after step S2050.
- step S2060 it is determined whether the cumulative value of the caution level is equal to or greater than a predetermined threshold, and the flow of control is branched depending on the determination result.
- step S2050 if the calculated caution level (a) is positive, the caution level is accumulated.
- step S2020 If it is determined in step S2060 that the cumulative value of the level of caution is not equal to or greater than the predetermined threshold, the processing of step S2020 is repeated.
- the computer program further includes step S2070.
- Step S2070 is executed if step S2060 determines that the cumulative value of the level of caution is equal to or greater than a predetermined threshold.
- step S2070 a notification is sent to the outside that the driver's driving characteristics have transitioned to driving characteristics requiring caution (a change from normal driving characteristics to driving characteristics requiring caution).
- step S2070 for example, notification is sent to administrator 70 that the driver's driving characteristics have transitioned to driving characteristics requiring caution.
- step S2060 determines that the cumulative value of the level of caution is equal to or greater than the predetermined threshold
- data indicating the transition to driving characteristics requiring caution is recorded in the database of storage device 220 in association with data identifying the driver.
- driving characteristic data requiring caution is referred to as driver identification data.
- step S2020 has been repeated until all data for the unit time interval has been processed, or when processing in step S2070 has finished, the computer program terminates.
- This computer program is executed by server 200 (see Figure 1) to detect changes in the driver's driving characteristics based on acceleration data.
- the computer program is started, for example, according to a preset schedule. For example, the computer program is started at a preset time every day.
- the computer program in FIG. 12 includes step S2012 instead of step S2010.
- the processing in step S2000 and steps S2020 to S2070 in FIG. 13 is the same as the processing in the corresponding steps in FIG. 12. Below, we will explain the difference between FIG. 12 and FIG. 13, namely step S2012.
- the computer program includes step S2012.
- Step S2012 is executed after step S2000.
- step S2012 acceleration data is extracted from the driving data.
- the processing in step S2020 (the processing for calculating and accumulating the level of caution) is performed on the acceleration data extracted in step S2012.
- ⁇ Driving characteristics classification processing> The control structure of the computer program will be described with reference to Fig. 14.
- This computer program is executed by server 200 (see Fig. 1) to classify and detail the driving characteristics of a driver.
- the computer program starts, for example, when it is determined in the driving characteristic change detection process that the cumulative value of the level of caution required is equal to or greater than a predetermined threshold value.
- the computer program includes steps S3000 and S3010.
- step S3000 vehicle data, incidental data, and environmental data corresponding to data for which the level of caution (a) is positive are obtained from storage device 220 (see Figure 3).
- step S3010 is executed after step S3000.
- step S3010 the driving characteristics requiring caution are classified based on the incidental data and environmental data, and the computer program is terminated.
- the classification result in step S3010 may be notified to, for example, administrator 70, along with a notification that the driver's driving characteristics have transitioned to driving characteristics requiring caution.
- the classification result is recorded in the database of storage device 220 in association with the driver identification data corresponding to the processed data.
- the classification result is, for example, data indicating the first to fourth groups described below.
- the computer program in Figure 14 may be executed on the data if the level of caution (a) is positive in step S2040 of the computer programs in Figures 12 and 13.
- step S3010 of the computer program in Figure 14 the cautionary driving characteristics are classified into, for example, four groups.
- (1) First Group From the time data and weather data, it is possible to determine whether the surroundings of the vehicle 60 are dark, for example, whether the surroundings of the vehicle 60 are dark due to bad weather or night. If the attention level is counted when the surroundings of the vehicle 60 are dark, that is, if the value of the attention level (a) is positive, it is estimated that the driver has poor night vision and has difficulty seeing things in the dark. The driving characteristic of the first group is poor night vision.
- Second Group From the vehicle position data, it can be determined whether the vehicle 60 is traveling on a highway. If the level of caution is counted while traveling on a highway, it is estimated that if the driver's dynamic visual acuity is reduced, it will be difficult for the driver to adjust the speed of the vehicle 60 to match the speed of other vehicles.
- the driving characteristic of the second group is reduced dynamic visual acuity.
- Continuous driving time and driving posture can be determined from time data and biometric data (e.g., seat pressure or center of gravity position). Continuous driving time is, for example, 30 minutes or more. For example, if the continuous driving time is long or the center of gravity position moves frequently, the driver is counted as requiring caution. In such cases, if the driver's muscle strength or physical strength is reduced, it is assumed that the driver has difficulty maintaining a correct driving posture and is accumulating fatigue.
- the driving characteristics of the third group are reduced muscle strength or physical strength.
- the on-board navigation system will remotely control the on-board navigation system, for example, to select a route that is as bright as possible when driving at night, such as a route with many streetlights. If the driver has driving characteristics in the second group, the on-board navigation system will remotely control the on-board navigation system, for example, to select ordinary roads as a general rule and the shortest possible route on expressways. If the driver has driving characteristics in the third group, the on-board navigation system will remotely control the on-board navigation system, for example, to select a route that allows the driver to take appropriate rest breaks. If the driver has driving characteristics in the fourth group, the on-board navigation system will remotely control the on-board navigation system, for example, to select a route that includes roads that are easy for the driver to understand, even if it takes longer.
- the attention level is accumulated for a period set in the period setting process.
- the accumulation of the attention level is not stopped even after the set period has elapsed.
- the oldest data is excluded (subtracted) from the accumulated value, and the attention level accumulated value is updated for the set period. That is, in FIG. 16 , the set period is shifted to the right.
- the oldest data to be subtracted is referred to here as data outside the monitoring period.
- This computer program is executed on the server 200 (see Figure 1) to update the cumulative caution level value.
- the computer program is started, for example, according to a preset schedule.
- the computer program includes steps S4000, S4010, S4020, S4030, and S4040.
- step S4000 it is determined whether there is data outside the monitoring period, and the control flow branches depending on the determination result.
- Step S4010 is executed if it is determined in step S4000 that there is data outside the monitoring period.
- step S4010 the data is acquired.
- step S4020 is executed after step S4010.
- step S4020 the value of the data is subtracted from the accumulated level of caution (accumulated level of caution value).
- Step S4030 is executed after step S4020.
- step S4030 it is determined whether the accumulated level of caution value has fallen below a predetermined threshold, and the control flow branches depending on the determination result.
- Step S4040 is executed if it is determined in step S4030 that the accumulated level of caution value has fallen below the predetermined threshold.
- an external device is notified that the driver's driving characteristics have returned from cautionary driving characteristics to normal driving characteristics.
- step S4000 If it is determined in step S4000 that there is no data outside the monitoring period, if it is determined in step S4030 that the cumulative value of the level of caution is not below the predetermined threshold, or if the processing of step S4040 has ended, the computer program ends.
- step S4040 for example, the administrator 70 is notified that the driver's driving characteristics have returned to normal driving characteristics. If it is determined in step S4030 that the cumulative value of the level of caution has fallen below the predetermined threshold, data indicating a return to normal driving characteristics is recorded in the database of storage device 220 in association with the driver identification data.
- data indicating a return to normal driving characteristics is referred to as normal driving characteristic data.
- the caution-requiring driving characteristic data stored in storage device 220 in association with the relevant driver identification data may be erased.
- the driving assistance system 50 operates as follows. Referring to Fig. 1, the in-vehicle device 100 transmits vehicle data and additional data of the vehicle 60 to the server 200.
- the server 200 receives and stores the vehicle data and additional data transmitted from the in-vehicle device 100.
- the server 200 further obtains environmental data corresponding to the vehicle data and additional data from the external server 90, and stores the environmental data in the storage device 220 in association with the vehicle data and additional data.
- the server 200 uses the vehicle data (driving data) stored in the storage device 220 to detect changes in the driving characteristics of the driver of the vehicle 60 (step S2020 in FIGS. 12 and 13).
- vehicle data driving data
- the server 200 detects that the driver's driving characteristics have changed from normal driving characteristics to driving characteristics requiring caution (YES in step S2060 in FIG. 12 or 13), it notifies this to, for example, the administrator 70 (step S2070 in FIG. 12 or 13).
- the server 200 continues to execute the process of detecting changes in the driver's driving characteristics and monitors whether the driver's driving characteristics return to normal. Specifically, if there is data outside the monitoring period (YES in step S4000 of FIG. 17), the server 200 acquires that data (step S4010) and subtracts the data value from the cumulative caution level value (step S4020). If the cumulative caution level value is below a predetermined threshold (YES in step S4030), the server 200 notifies, for example, the administrator 70 of this (step S4040).
- the judgment unit 260 references a first distribution indicating normal driving characteristics and a second distribution indicating caution-requiring driving characteristics to judge whether vehicle data (driving data) indicates normal driving characteristics or caution-requiring driving characteristics.
- the accumulation unit 262 maintains the caution level count value for vehicle data that the judgment unit 260 judges to indicate normal driving characteristics.
- the accumulation unit 262 increases the caution level count value for vehicle data that the judgment unit 260 judges to indicate caution-requiring driving characteristics, accumulating the caution level.
- the driving characteristic change detection unit 264 detects that the driver's driving characteristics have transitioned to caution-requiring driving characteristics if the caution level count value is equal to or greater than a predetermined threshold. This makes it possible to detect changes in the driver's driving characteristics even if the driver's driving characteristics change over time, for example, over a period of one year or more or several years.
- the server 200 further includes a notification unit 256.
- the notification unit 256 notifies at least one of the driver and the manager 70 that the driver's driving characteristics have transitioned to driving characteristics requiring caution. This makes it possible to make the driver aware of the change in their driving characteristics.
- Vehicle data may include time-series data for at least one of accelerator opening, brake pressure, and steering angle. This allows changes in the driver's driving characteristics to be detected with high accuracy.
- the determination unit 260 may calculate the difference between the data per unit time in the time series data and the previous data, which is the data per unit time immediately before.
- the determination unit 260 may refer to the first distribution and the second distribution to determine whether the difference value indicates normal driving characteristics or driving characteristics requiring caution. This makes it possible to more accurately detect changes in the driver's driving characteristics.
- the server 200 may further include a data acquisition unit 250 and an estimation unit 268.
- the data acquisition unit 250 acquires at least one of the driver's biometric data, vehicle driving data, and environmental data outside the vehicle while the vehicle is driving.
- the estimation unit 268 estimates the driver's driving characteristics based on the data acquired by the data acquisition unit 250. This makes it possible to estimate what kind of driving characteristics have changed when the driver's driving characteristics change.
- the vehicle 60 may further include a seating sensor 312 provided in the seat where the driver sits.
- the in-vehicle device 100 may further transmit sensor data from the seating sensor 312 to the server 200 as biometric data. This makes it possible to infer, for example, changes in driving characteristics related to the driver's driving posture.
- the in-vehicle device 100 may also transmit vehicle position data while the vehicle is traveling to the server 200 as vehicle data. This makes it possible to estimate changes in driving characteristics related to dynamic visual acuity, for example.
- the server 200 communicates with an external server 90.
- the data acquisition unit 250 may acquire weather data for the driving area while the vehicle 60 is driving from the external server 90 as environmental data. This makes it possible to estimate changes in driving characteristics related to eyesight, for example.
- the accumulation unit 262 may accumulate the level of caution only during the period accepted by the setting acceptance unit 254. This prevents the level of caution from accumulating without an upper limit.
- the accumulation unit 262 accumulates the level of caution by shifting the period when the period accepted by the setting acceptance unit 254 is exceeded, and updates the count value of the level of caution by deleting data that is outside the period.
- the server 200 may further include a normal driving characteristic detection unit 266 and a normal driving characteristic transition notification unit 258. If the updated count value of the level of caution is below a predetermined threshold, the normal driving characteristic detection unit 266 detects that the driver's driving characteristics have transitioned from caution-requiring driving characteristics to normal driving characteristics. The normal driving characteristic transition notification unit 258 notifies at least one of the driver and manager 70 that the driver's driving characteristics have transitioned to normal driving characteristics. This makes it possible to detect that the driver's driving characteristics have returned to normal driving characteristics and notify at least one of the driver and manager 70 of this.
- the driving assistance system 50 assists the driver with driving characteristics requiring caution using, for example, the in-vehicle device 100.
- the calculation unit 112 reads a predetermined computer program from the memory 120, and the process shown in FIG. 18 is executed.
- step S5000 the calculation unit 112 acquires data on the driving characteristics requiring caution from the server 200. Control then proceeds to step S5010. Specifically, the calculation unit 112 transmits predetermined request data, to which the driver identification data has been added, to the server 200 via the communication unit 140. For example, the calculation unit 112 performs facial recognition of the driver using the in-vehicle camera 302 and determines the driver identification data uniquely assigned to the driver. The driver identification data is stored in advance in the memory 120, for example.
- the server 200 (specifically, the CPU 212) reads out from the database stored in the storage device 220 whether the driver has a driving characteristic requiring caution and the type of driving characteristic requiring caution, and transmits this information to the in-vehicle device 100.
- the driving characteristics requiring caution are classified into, for example, groups 1 to 4. For example, if the driver has a driving characteristic requiring caution, the server 200 transmits data including "1" and a group number "X" (where X is 1, 2, 3, or 4). That is, “1,1", “1,2", “1,3”, or "1,4" is transmitted. If the driver does not have the driving characteristic requiring caution, the server 200 transmits data different from the data transmitted when the driver has the driving characteristic requiring caution. The different data is, for example, "0".
- step S5010 the calculation unit 112 determines whether or not the driver has a driving characteristic requiring caution. If the calculation unit 112 determines that the driver has a driving characteristic requiring caution, control proceeds to step S5020. If the calculation unit 112 determines that the driver does not have a driving characteristic requiring caution, the computer program terminates. Specifically, if the calculation unit 112 receives a "1" from the server 200 in step S5000, it determines that the driver has a driving characteristic requiring caution (YES in step S5010), and if the calculation unit 112 receives a "0", it determines that the driver does not have a driving characteristic requiring caution (NO in step S5010).
- step S5020 the calculation unit 112 displays a predetermined message prompting the user to set a destination on the display unit 326 of the in-vehicle navigation system 320 (see Figure 4). Then, control proceeds to step S5030.
- step S5030 the calculation unit 112 determines whether the in-vehicle navigation system 320 has been operated to set a destination. If it is determined that a destination has been set, control proceeds to step S5040. If a destination has not been set after waiting for a predetermined period of time, the calculation unit 112 terminates the computer program.
- step S5040 the calculation unit 112 executes a route search process. Specifically, the calculation unit 112 executes the process shown in FIG. 19. Control then proceeds to step S5050.
- step S5100 calculation unit 112 determines whether the caution-requiring driving characteristic corresponds to a driving characteristic of the first group. Specifically, calculation unit 112 determines whether the data received from server 200 in step S5000 is data indicating a caution-requiring driving characteristic of the first group, for example, "1". If it is determined that the received data indicates the first group, control proceeds to step S5110. Otherwise, control proceeds to step S5130.
- the calculation unit 112 determines whether the environment around the vehicle 60 is dark.
- a dark environment includes nighttime (e.g., from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM) and bad weather conditions such as rain or cloudy weather.
- the calculation unit 112 can obtain the current time from a clock installed in the vehicle 60 to determine whether it is nighttime.
- the calculation unit 112 can obtain weather data from an external server 90 (see Figure 1) to determine whether the weather around the vehicle 60 is bad. If the vehicle 60 is equipped with an on-board camera that captures images of the exterior of the vehicle 60, the calculation unit 112 may determine whether the environment around the vehicle 60 is dark from the image data captured by the on-board camera.
- the calculation unit 112 may determine whether the environment around the vehicle 60 is dark, for example, using a light receiving sensor for automatic lights located on the dashboard of the vehicle 60. If it is determined that the environment around the vehicle 60 is dark, control proceeds to step S5120. If not, control proceeds to step S5130.
- step S5120 the calculation unit 112 searches for one or more driving routes from the current position of the vehicle 60 to the destination.
- the destination was set in step S5030. From the obtained driving routes, the calculation unit 112 determines a driving route that includes more streetlights and brighter roads. Control then proceeds to step S5130.
- Road map data does not usually include the number of streetlights installed, but the number of streetlights installed depends on the road width, and wider roads have more streetlights and are brighter. Therefore, the calculation unit 112 determines the driving route with the greatest degree of use of roads with a specified width or more as the recommended route, for example, based on the road width included in the road map data.
- the degree of use of roads with a specified width or more is, for example, the total distance of roads with a specified width or more included in the driving route.
- the degree of use of roads with a specified width or more may be the ratio of the total distance of roads with a specified width or more included in the driving route to the total distance of the driving route.
- streetlights that turn on at night using timers streetlights that detect ambient brightness using light sensors and automatically turn on during the day are also installed on roads. Therefore, the determined driving route is a route that allows a driver with poor night vision to drive the vehicle 60 more safely, even if it is dark around the vehicle 60.
- step S5130 the calculation unit 112 determines whether the driver's driving characteristics correspond to the driving characteristics of the second group. Specifically, the calculation unit 112 determines whether the data received from the server 200 is data indicating a driving characteristic requiring caution of the second group, for example, "2". If it is determined that the received data indicates a driving characteristic of the second group, control proceeds to step S5140. Otherwise, control proceeds to step S5150.
- step S5140 the calculation unit 112 searches for one or more driving routes from the current position of the vehicle 60 to the destination and, from the obtained driving routes, determines a driving route that primarily includes public roads. Control then proceeds to step S5150.
- Public roads are roads other than expressways. In Japan, public roads are national highways, prefectural roads, and municipal roads defined by the Road Act. Expressways are, for example, national expressways defined by the Road Act of Japan.
- the calculation unit 112 determines, as the recommended route, a driving route that does not include expressways or a driving route that uses expressways to the least extent.
- the extent of expressway use is, for example, the distance of expressways included in the driving route or the estimated time required to travel on the expressways.
- the extent of expressway use may also be the ratio of the distance of expressways included in the driving route to the total distance of the driving route.
- the determined driving route is a route that allows drivers with impaired dynamic visual acuity to drive the vehicle 60 more safely.
- step S5150 the calculation unit 112 determines whether the driving characteristic requiring caution corresponds to a driving characteristic in the third group. Specifically, the calculation unit 112 determines whether the data received from the server 200 is data indicating a driving characteristic requiring caution in the third group, for example, "3.” If it is determined that the received data indicates a driving characteristic in the third group, control proceeds to step S5160. Otherwise, control proceeds to step S5170.
- step S5160 the calculation unit 112 searches for one or more driving routes from the current position of the vehicle 60 to the destination, and from among the obtained driving routes, determines a driving route that passes through a rest point as the recommended route. Control then proceeds to step S5170.
- the driving route may be a driving route that passes through a rest point every predetermined time.
- the predetermined time is, for example, 30 minutes.
- Rest points include, for example, service areas and parking areas on expressways. Rest points include roadside stations on general national highways in Japan.
- the determined driving route is a route that allows drivers with reduced muscle strength or physical strength to drive the vehicle 60 more safely.
- step S5170 the calculation unit 112 determines whether the driving characteristic requiring caution corresponds to a driving characteristic in the fourth group. Specifically, the calculation unit 112 determines whether the data received from the server 200 is data indicating a driving characteristic requiring caution in the fourth group, for example, "4.” If it is determined that the received data indicates a driving characteristic in the fourth group, control proceeds to step S5180. Otherwise, control proceeds to step S5200.
- step S5180 the calculation unit 112 determines whether the driving history of the vehicle 60 is stored in the in-vehicle navigation system 320. If it is determined that the driving history is stored in the in-vehicle navigation system 320, control proceeds to S5190. If not, control proceeds to step S5200.
- step S5190 the calculation unit 112 searches for one or more driving routes from the current position of the vehicle 60 to the destination, and from the obtained driving routes, determines as the recommended route the driving route with the greatest degree of use of "roads identified by the driving history.” Control then proceeds to step S5200.
- the degree of use of roads identified by the driving history is, for example, the total distance on roads on which the driver has previously driven the vehicle along the driving route.
- the degree of use of roads identified by the driving history may also be the ratio of the total distance on roads on which the driver has previously driven the vehicle along that driving route to the total distance of the driving route.
- the determined driving route is a route that allows a driver with reduced peripheral vision to drive the vehicle 60 more safely.
- step S5200 the calculation unit 112 determines a recommended route. Control then proceeds to step S5050. Specifically, when any one of steps S5120, S5140, S5160, and S5190 is executed, the calculation unit 112 determines the driving route determined by the executed step as the recommended route. If a single driver has multiple types of caution-requiring driving characteristics, two or more driving routes are determined by two or more of steps S5120, S5140, S5160, and S5190. In this case, the calculation unit 112 may, for example, combine these routes to determine a driving route that the driver can travel most safely and determine this driving route as the recommended route.
- Priorities may be set in advance among steps S5120, S5140, S5160, and S5190, and the calculation unit 112 may determine the driving route determined by the step with the highest priority as the recommended route.
- the calculation unit 112 may determine, as the recommended route, a driving route in which part of the driving route determined in the step with the highest priority has been changed to part of a driving route determined in another step.
- step S5050 the calculation unit 112 displays the recommended route determined in step S5200 on the display unit 326 and starts navigation.
- the computer program then terminates.
- a recommended route that allows the driver to safely drive the vehicle 60 can be presented to the driver. Even if the driver has driving characteristics requiring caution, the driver can still drive the vehicle 60 safely if they follow the presented recommended route.
- the in-vehicle device 100 requests the driver to input a destination. Upon receiving the destination input, the in-vehicle device 100 determines a recommended route according to the type of driving characteristic requiring caution and presents it to the driver. This allows the driver to be presented with an appropriate route that will enable safe driving of the vehicle 60, according to the driver's driving characteristics requiring caution.
- Dangerous driving characteristics are classified into multiple groups depending on the vehicle driving conditions that cause the driver's driving characteristics to be detected as having transitioned to a dangerous driving characteristic. This allows the driver's dangerous driving characteristics to be appropriately classified.
- the driving conditions are determined using at least one of the following: time data when the vehicle is traveling, weather data when the vehicle is traveling, vehicle position data, driver biometric data, and vehicle driving history data. This allows for an appropriate determination of the driver's driving characteristics requiring caution.
- Driving characteristics requiring caution include driving characteristics in a first group that indicate poor night vision. If the driver's driving characteristics fall into the first group and the surroundings of the vehicle 60 are dark, upon input of the destination, the in-vehicle device 100 determines, as the recommended route, from among multiple driving routes, a route that includes roads with a greater number of streetlights. This allows a driver with poor night vision to be presented with a route that allows the vehicle 60 to be driven more safely.
- Driving characteristics requiring caution include driving characteristics in a second group that indicate a decline in dynamic visual acuity. If the driver's driving characteristics fall into the second group, the in-vehicle device 100 determines, from among multiple driving routes, a route that does not include expressways or a route that uses expressways to the least extent, as the recommended route. This makes it possible to present a route that allows the vehicle 60 to be driven more safely to a driver with declining dynamic visual acuity.
- Driving characteristics requiring caution include driving characteristics in a third group that indicate weakened muscle strength or weakened physical strength. If the driver's driving characteristics fall into the third group, the in-vehicle device 100 determines, as a recommended route, a route that passes through rest points at predetermined intervals from among multiple driving routes. This makes it possible to present routes that allow the vehicle 60 to be driven more safely to drivers with weakened muscle strength or weakened physical strength.
- Driving characteristics requiring caution include driving characteristics in a fourth group that indicate reduced peripheral vision. If the driver's driving characteristics fall into the fourth group, the in-vehicle device 100 determines, from among multiple routes, the route that has the greatest degree of use of roads that the vehicle has traveled in the past as the recommended route. This makes it possible to present routes that allow the vehicle 60 to be driven more safely to drivers with reduced muscle strength or physical strength.
- Step S5120 is not limited to cases where the environment around the vehicle 60 is dark. Even if the environment around the vehicle 60 is bright (e.g., daytime in good weather) when the destination is set, the environment around the vehicle 60 may change to a dark environment (e.g., nighttime or bad weather) after the vehicle starts to travel. Therefore, step S5110 may not be included in Figure 19. In other words, step S5120 may be executed regardless of whether the environment around the vehicle is dark or not.
- the in-vehicle device 100 determines the recommended route.
- the in-vehicle device 100 does not have to determine the recommended route.
- the server 200 may determine the recommended route based on the driver's driving characteristics requiring caution.
- the in-vehicle device 100 transmits a predetermined instruction to the server 200, which includes data identifying the destination set in step S5030 and driver identification data.
- this predetermined instruction will be referred to as a route search instruction.
- the server 200 receives the route search instruction from the in-vehicle device 100, it executes the process shown in Figure 19 and can transmit the determined recommended route to the in-vehicle device 100.
- the server 200 can use the position data indicating the traveling position of the vehicle 60 as a traveling history.
- the position data indicating the traveling position of the vehicle 60 is stored in the storage device 220. If the caution-requiring driving characteristic received from the server 200 in step S5010 is a driving characteristic in the fourth group, the in-vehicle device 100 may transmit the driving history of the vehicle 60 to the server 200, and the server 200 may use the received driving history in step S5190. After determining the recommended route, the server 200 may remotely control the in-vehicle navigation system 320 of the in-vehicle device 100 to cause the in-vehicle navigation system 320 to provide route guidance using the recommended route.
- a first distribution indicating normal driving characteristics and a second distribution indicating cautious driving characteristics are referenced to determine whether the vehicle data (driving data) indicates normal driving characteristics or cautious driving characteristics.
- Methods other than those described above may also be used to detect that a driver's driving characteristics have transitioned to cautious driving characteristics. If it is possible to detect that a driver's driving characteristics have transitioned to cautious driving characteristics and to identify which of multiple groups of driving characteristics the driver's cautious driving characteristics belong to, the above driving assistance can be implemented, i.e., a recommended route can be presented to the driver that corresponds to the driver's cautious driving characteristics.
- a destination In the driving assistance shown in FIG. 18 , a destination must be set. If a destination is not set, the driving assistance described above will not be executed. To enable a driver with a cautious driving characteristic to drive a vehicle safely, the driver must drive the vehicle according to the presented recommended route. Therefore, it is important to set a destination and motivate the driver to drive according to the presented recommended route. To achieve this, it is effective to provide a reward (incentive) to the driver, as shown in FIG. 20 , for example.
- the calculation unit 112 reads and executes a specific computer program from the memory 120.
- the prerequisite is that the insurance company will offer a discount on the automobile insurance premium for a vehicle 60 traveling along a recommended route.
- step S5020 the calculation unit 112 displays a predetermined message on the display unit 326 of the in-vehicle navigation system 320, prompting the user to set a destination.
- screen 500 shown in FIG. 21 is displayed on the in-vehicle navigation system 320.
- Screen 500 displays a message that driving the recommended route will result in lower car insurance premiums, as well as an "OK" button and a "Cancel” button.
- the "Cancel” button is operated (touched)
- screen 500 is cleared and the computer program is terminated.
- screen 502 shown in FIG. 22 is displayed.
- area 504 displays multiple buttons for setting a destination.
- the destination is displayed as a candidate in cell 506.
- the "Name” button, "Address” button, and “Phone Number” button are used to search for a destination by its name, address, and phone number, respectively.
- the "Map” button is used to specify a destination on a road map.
- the “History” button is used to select a destination from destinations that have been set in the past.
- the “Set” button is operated, the candidate displayed in cell 506 is set as the destination.
- the "Cancel” button is operated, screen 502 is cleared and the computer program is terminated.
- step S5040 When a destination is set, a recommended route is determined in step S5040, and then in step S5050, the recommended route is displayed on the display unit 326 and navigation begins. Then, in step S6000, the calculation unit 112 determines whether the vehicle 60 has arrived at the destination. Specifically, the calculation unit 112 acquires the current position of the vehicle 60 using GPS, and determines whether the distance between the current position and the destination is less than or equal to a predetermined value. If the distance is less than or equal to the predetermined value, it is determined that the destination has been reached, and control proceeds to step S6030. If not, control proceeds to step S6010.
- step S6010 the calculation unit 112 acquires the current position of the vehicle 60 via GPS and determines whether the vehicle 60 has deviated from the recommended route. If it is determined that the vehicle 60 has deviated from the recommended route, control proceeds to step S6020. Otherwise, control returns to step S6000. Deviation means that the vehicle 60 is traveling on a road other than the road specified by the recommended route.
- step S6020 the calculation unit 112 stores data indicating the deviation in memory 120 and presents a predetermined message (e.g., voice guidance) to the driver.
- the message is, for example, a message informing the driver that the vehicle 60 has deviated from the recommended route and recommending that the driver return to the recommended route.
- the data indicating the deviation is stored in memory 120 (see Figure 2).
- the data indicating the deviation is, for example, data indicating the position of the vehicle 60 when a deviation is determined in step S6010.
- the data indicating the position of the vehicle 60 when a deviation is determined in step S6010 will be referred to as deviation position data.
- Step S6010 is repeatedly executed, and therefore the deviation position data is repeatedly stored in memory 120 while the deviation is maintained.
- the deviation position data is not stored in memory 120.
- the insurance company can evaluate the degree of deviation from the stored deviation position data and determine whether to apply a discount on the automobile insurance premium.
- Data indicating the time when a deviation was determined to have occurred in step S6010 may be stored instead of or together with the deviation position data.
- the data indicating the time when a deviation was determined to have occurred in step S6010 will be referred to as deviation time data.
- step S6030 the calculation unit 112 transmits the results of vehicle 60 traveling the recommended route to the server 200. Specifically, the calculation unit 112 reads data indicating a deviation (e.g., deviation position data and deviation time data) from memory 120 and transmits that data to the server 200. If no data indicating a deviation is stored in memory 120, the calculation unit 112 transmits data indicating that no deviation occurred to the server 200. The computer program then terminates.
- data indicating a deviation e.g., deviation position data and deviation time data
- the in-vehicle device 100 can determine whether a driver with cautious driving characteristics has driven the vehicle 60 along the recommended route.
- the insurance company can reflect the determination result in the automobile insurance premium for the vehicle 60 (for example, by discounting the next year's premium).
- the insurance company can accumulate the evaluation results of the degree of deviation for multiple drives along the recommended route and determine the degree of discount depending on the accumulated results. Therefore, drivers with cautious driving characteristics can be motivated to drive along the recommended route, allowing the vehicle to be driven safely.
- the in-vehicle device 100 detects and stores the vehicle's deviation from the recommended route.
- the method of detecting and storing the deviation is not limited to this.
- the server 200 may also execute steps S6000 to S6020 shown in FIG. 20.
- the server 200 may also execute the process shown in FIG. 19 and also execute steps S6000 to S6020 shown in FIG. 20.
- the in-vehicle device 100 starts navigation according to the recommended route, and then transmits position data of the vehicle 60 to the server 200.
- changes in a driver's driving characteristics can be detected even when they change over time, for example, over a period of one year or more or several years.
- the period over which a driver's driving characteristics change is not limited to one year or more.
- the method of the present disclosure can also detect changes in a driver's driving characteristics when the driver's driving characteristics change over a period shorter than one year (for example, one month, three months, six months, or several weeks).
- the detection method is not limited to this. Signs of a transition to driving characteristics requiring caution may also be detected before the driver's driving characteristics transition to driving characteristics requiring caution. For example, signs are detected by comparing the count value of the level of caution with a threshold value for determining signs.
- the threshold value for determining signs is a threshold value that is smaller than the threshold value used to determine whether a transition to driving characteristics requiring caution has occurred. When the count value of the level of caution exceeds the threshold value for determining signs, the server 200 determines that a sign has been detected.
- the server 200 When the server 200 detects a sign, it classifies the driving characteristics as described above and records the result (data on driving characteristics requiring caution) in a database stored in the storage device 220 in association with the driver identification data.
- the in-vehicle device 100 inquires of the server 200 as to whether the driver has driving characteristics requiring caution, and supports the driver's driving in accordance with the driving characteristics requiring caution. This allows the driver to drive the vehicle safely even when signs are detected that the driver's driving characteristics are transitioning to driving characteristics requiring caution.
- the server 200 executes the driving characteristics classification process.
- the vehicle data travel data
- the driving characteristics classification process may be executed for each group. In the first modified example, such an example will be described.
- the computer program shown in FIG. 23 is executed instead of the computer program shown in FIG. 14.
- the computer program is started, for example, according to a preset schedule. For example, the computer program is started at a certain time every day.
- the computer program includes steps S3100 and S3110.
- step S3100 vehicle data, additional data, and environmental data are acquired from storage device 220 (see FIG. 3).
- Step S3110 is executed after step S3100.
- step S3110 the driving data included in the vehicle data is divided into multiple groups based on the vehicle data (position data), additional data, and environmental data, and stored in storage device 220. The computer program then terminates.
- the computer program shown in Figures 12 and 13 is executed for the driving data of each group.
- a driving assistance system 50A detects changes in the driving characteristics of a driver of a general vehicle, notifies the driver, and provides driving assistance to the driver whose driving characteristics require caution.
- a vehicle 60a is a general vehicle such as a private car.
- the second embodiment is the same as the first embodiment except that the vehicle 60a is a general vehicle.
- the manager is, for example, a relative of the driver.
- the vehicle 60a is equipped with the same on-board device 100 as in the first embodiment.
- an in-vehicle device 400 is mounted on a vehicle 60b.
- the in-vehicle device 400 has the functions of the server 200 (see FIG. 1) according to the first embodiment.
- the third embodiment differs from the first embodiment in that the in-vehicle device is the in-vehicle device 400.
- the in-vehicle device 400 detects changes in the driving characteristics of the driver driving the vehicle 60b, notifies the driver or the driver's relatives of the changes in the driver's driving characteristics, and provides driving assistance to the driver.
- the in-vehicle device 400 further includes a detection processing unit 410 and a setting reception unit 420 as functional units.
- the vehicle data received by the vehicle data receiving unit 160 and the incidental data received by the incidental data receiving unit 170 are stored in the storage device 402.
- the in-vehicle device 400 communicates with an external server 90 (see FIG. 25), which is an external data source, via the communication unit 140.
- the in-vehicle device 400 acquires environmental data from the external server 90, and the environmental data is stored in the storage device 402.
- the detection processing unit 410 has the same functions as the detection processing unit 252 of the server 200.
- the setting reception unit 420 has the same functions as the setting reception unit 254 (see Figure 5).
- the detection processing unit 410 uses data stored in the storage device 402 to detect changes in the driving characteristics of the driver driving the vehicle 60b (see Figure 25).
- the detection processing unit 410 includes a judgment unit 430, an accumulation unit 432, a driving characteristic change detection unit 434, a normal driving characteristic detection unit 436, and an estimation unit 438. These functional units have the same functions as the respective functional units of the server 200 (see Figure 5) in the first embodiment.
- the detection processing unit 410 When the driving characteristic change detection unit 434 detects that the driver's driving characteristics have transitioned to driving characteristics requiring caution, the detection processing unit 410 notifies the warning notification unit 180 of this. After receiving the notification from the detection processing unit 410, the warning notification unit 180 notifies (warns) the driver of this. Alternatively, the warning notification unit 180 may notify a terminal external to the vehicle 60b (for example, a mobile terminal carried by a relative of the driver) of the change in the driver's driving characteristics via the communication unit 140.
- a terminal external to the vehicle 60b for example, a mobile terminal carried by a relative of the driver
- the detection processing unit 410 When the normal driving characteristic detection unit 436 detects that the driver's driving characteristics have returned to normal driving characteristics, the detection processing unit 410 notifies the warning notification unit 180 of this. Upon receiving the notification from the detection processing unit 410, the warning notification unit 180 notifies the driver of this. Alternatively, the warning notification unit 180 may notify a terminal external to the vehicle 60b (for example, a mobile terminal carried by a relative of the driver) via the communication unit 140 that the driver's driving characteristics have returned to normal driving characteristics.
- a terminal external to the vehicle 60b for example, a mobile terminal carried by a relative of the driver
- This configuration also makes it possible to detect changes in the driver's driving characteristics.
- step S5000 shown in Figure 18 the calculation unit 112 of the in-vehicle device 400 (see Figure 2) inquires of the detection processing unit 410 within the in-vehicle device 400 whether the driver has a driving characteristic requiring caution.

位置データは、例えばGPS(Global Positioning System)データ等の位置座標データであり、走行時の時刻データを含む。 走行データには、例えばCAN(Controller Area Network)データを用いることができる。

1または複数のプロセッサは、CPU、GPU、DSP(Digital Signal Processor)、FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array)、ASIC(Application Specific Integrated Circuit)等、コンピュータの制御に適合する種々のプロセッサであってよい。
