- the upper limit is preferably 65 g/m2 or less , and more preferably 50 g/m2 or less .
- the lower limit of the basis weight of the tipping paper is preferably 20 g/ m2 or more, more preferably 25 g/m2 or more , and even more preferably 30 g/m2 or more .
- the upper limit is preferably 50 g/m2 or less , more preferably 45 g/m2 or less , and even more preferably 40 g/m2 or less .
- the basis weight can be measured by the method specified in JIS P8124.
- wrapper 12b may also be made of multiple layers that perform a function different from that of paper or nonwoven fabric.
- An example of a layer that performs a function different from that of paper or nonwoven fabric is a coating layer that forms the inner surface of wrapper 12b.
- flavor element 12 is a tobacco rod containing tobacco material as the flavor raw material 12a.
- the flavor element (tobacco rod) 12 is provided upstream of the hollow segment 14.
- the hollow segment 14 is heated by the flavor element 12, and the flavor components volatilized by the flavor element 12 are cooled and aerosolized.
- the hollow segment 14 comprises a paper tube (paper tube) 14a and a tube containing an adsorbent (hereinafter referred to as an adsorbent-containing tube) 14b.
- the cardboard tube 14a is formed, for example, by rolling a paper sheet into a cylindrical shape.
- the paper sheet forming the cardboard tube 14a is made of paper with a weight of 50 g/m 2 to 300 g/m 2.
- the cardboard tube 14a may also be formed by stacking two paper sheets and rolling them into a cylindrical shape. In this case, cardboard sheets with a weight of 80 g/m 2 to 150 g/m 2 may be stacked and used.
- the adsorbent-containing tube 14b comprises a hollow tube 22 in which a sheet portion 32 containing the adsorbent is formed in a cylindrical shape, a filler material 24 that is arranged concentrically around the outer periphery of the hollow tube 22, and a wrapper 26 that wraps around the outside of the filler material 24.
- the adsorbent-containing sheet portion 32 that forms the hollow tube 22 is formed by mixing the adsorbent with, for example, paper and/or nonwoven fabric. Examples of enlarged photographs of the sheet portion 32 taken with a scanning electron microscope (SEM) are shown in Figures 3A and 3B. Both Figures 3A and 3B show sheet portion 32 that has been platinum-vapor-deposited for two minutes, enlarged 800 times at an applied voltage of 10 kV.
- Figure 3A is an example in which medium-activated activated carbon is used as the adsorbent for the sheet portion 32
- Figure 3B is an example in which highly activated activated carbon is used as the adsorbent for the sheet portion 32.
- Figures 3A and 3B what appear to be granular particles are attached to the fibrous material. The granular particles are the adsorbent.
- the adsorbent contained in the sheets 321, 322 (see Figure 4) of the sheet portion 32 forming the hollow tube 22 is preferably a granular material that adsorbs a portion of particles floating in the gas, such as components generated from the flavor product 10a.
- adsorbents include activated carbon, hydrotalcite, molecular sieves, clay, ion exchange resins, activated alumina, silica gel, meerschaum, oxidation catalysts, mesoporous silica, zeolites, metal oxides, cellulose acetate tow beads or pellets, polyvinyl acetate beads, polyethylene beads, polypropylene beads, menthol crystals, rock salt crystals, crystalline sugar, cyclodextrin particles, corundum particles, quartz crystals, metal beads (e.g., copper or stainless steel), microcrystalline cellulose particles, pumice, and agglomerated calcium carbonate.
- adsorbents other than those listed above may also be used. That is, one example of the sheets 321, 322 of the sheet portion 32 is an activated carbon sheet containing activated carbon as an adsorbent.
- the average particle size of the adsorbent particles is preferably 5 ⁇ m to 150 ⁇ m, and more preferably 10 ⁇ m to 100 ⁇ m.
- the average particle size is measured using image particle size distribution measurement.
- the particle size of activated carbon is generally around 250 ⁇ m to 600 ⁇ m, but it is preferable for the average particle size to be smaller than this. For example, it is preferable for the particle size of activated carbon to be around 100 ⁇ m.
- the amount of adsorbent particles in the sheet portion 32 is expressed as the amount per unit area of the sheet portion 32, and if this amount is too small, a satisfactory adsorption effect will not be obtained. From this perspective, this amount is preferably 20 g/ m2 or more.
- the lower limit is preferably 40 g/ m2 or more.
- the upper limit is preferably 80 g/m2 or less , and more preferably 60 g/m2 or less .
- the surface area of the activated carbon as an adsorbent is preferably 500 m 2 /g to 3000 m 2 /g, more preferably 700 m 2 /g to 2500 m 2 /g.
- the surface area of the adsorbent is the BET specific surface area, and is measured by a nitrogen adsorption method.
- the adsorbent-containing sheet portion 32 that forms the hollow tube 22 is formed, for example, by forming a single layer of adsorbent-containing sheets, or by stacking multiple layers.
- the sheet portion 32 is formed in two layers.
- the outer peripheral surface of the inner sheet 321 is coated entirely with adhesive 34, for example.
- the inner peripheral surface of the outer sheet 322 is bonded to the outer peripheral surface of the inner sheet 321 with adhesive 34.
- the end portions 321a of the inner sheets 321 and the end portions 322a of the outer sheets 322 are positioned at offset positions in the circumferential direction of the sheet portion 32.
- each sheet 321, 322 is preferably 100 to 300 ⁇ m, and more preferably 150 to 250 ⁇ m.
- the ends 321a of the inner sheets 321 face each other. Furthermore, the ends 322a of the outer sheets 322 face each other.
- the outer sheets 322 are arranged on the outside of the ends 321a of the inner sheets 321 via adhesive 34. Furthermore, the inner sheets 321 are arranged on the inside of the ends 322a of the outer sheets 322 via adhesive 34. Therefore, the sheet portion 32 having the inner sheets 321 and outer sheets 322 can easily maintain its circular shape.
- the ends 321a of the inner sheets 321 may be overlapped and bonded together with adhesive 34.
- the ends 322a of the outer sheets 322 may be overlapped and bonded together with adhesive 34.
- the sheet portion 32 is formed into a cylindrical shape as a hollow tube 22.
- the sheet portion 32 containing the adsorbent is not gathered, so the particulate adsorbent (see Figures 3A and 3B) is less likely to fall out of the sheet portion 32 than when gathered.
- the adhesive 34 is a harmless, water-based adhesive.
- a water-based adhesive is a vinyl acetate resin emulsion.
- Water-based adhesives are adhesives that harden when the water in them evaporates.
- Water-based adhesives include one of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer resin (EVA), polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), and starch paste, or a mixture of at least two of EVA, PVA, CMC, and starch paste.
- EVA ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer resin
- PVA polyvinyl alcohol
- CMC carboxymethyl cellulose
- starch paste starch paste
- water-based adhesives include water-based glues that harden when the water contained in them evaporates.
- the adsorbent-containing sheet portion 32 can be harder than the paper typically used for flavored product items 10a due to the presence of the adsorbent. For this reason, it may be difficult to form the adsorbent-containing sheet portion 32 into a nearly perfect circle.
- the flattening ratio at the end face of the outer periphery of the hollow tube 22 is 0.03 to 0.1, or even smaller. In other words, it is preferable that the outer periphery of the hollow tube 22 be formed with a high degree of circularity.
- the flattening ratio of the hollow tube 22 is calculated by (a-b)/a, using the horizontal length a and vertical length b shown in Figure 5, which pass through the central axis C of the hollow tube 22.
- the horizontal length a is determined so that the horizontal length a is the longest.
- the filler 24 placed on the outside of the hollow tube 22 is made of paper such as pulp, non-woven fabric, or the like. That is, as an example, the filler 24 is made of paper or non-woven fabric.
- the filler 24 can be made of, for example, plant fibers such as cotton, hemp, Manila hemp, palm, and rush; animal fibers such as wool and cashmere; regenerated cellulose fibers such as rayon; or a combination of these.
- filler 24 is plasticizer-free, meaning it does not contain any plasticizers. This is because plasticizers deactivate absorbents such as activated carbon.
- An example of a plasticizer is triacetin.
- plasticizers are used when forming ordinary filter media such as acetate tow into rod shapes, but are not used when using paper filters that use paper as the filter media. For this reason, as in this embodiment, no plasticizer is added to the paper filler 24. Furthermore, no plasticizer is added to the nonwoven fabric filler 24.
- the filler 24 is formed, for example, in a sheet-like shape, and the sheet-like material is crimped. For this reason, it is difficult for the filler 24 alone to maintain its shape as a rod with a diameter similar to that of the flavor product 10a, and a wrapper 26 may be required around the outer periphery of the filler 24.
- the wrapper 26 forms the cross section of the hollow segment 14 into an approximately cylindrical shape that is closer to a perfect circle.
- the wrapper 26 has a configuration similar to that of, for example, wrapper 12b. Note that the wrapper 26 only needs to maintain the outer shape of the filler 24 as perfectly circular as possible, i.e., it only needs to maintain the outer diameter of the filler 24, and a coating layer may not be necessary.
- the hollow segment 14 can be formed into an approximately cylindrical shape by placing a filler 24 of an appropriate thickness on the outside of the hollow tube 22 and then placing a wrapper 26 on the outside of that. Even if the cross section of the hollow tube 22 is not perfectly circular, the amount and density of the filler 24 can be adjusted for each position on the outer periphery of the hollow tube 22 to maintain the outer periphery of the hollow segment 14 close to a perfect circle when the filler 24 is wrapped around the wrapper 26. Furthermore, by fixing the filler 24 to the outer periphery of the hollow tube 22 with adhesive 23, it is possible to more easily maintain the outer periphery of the hollow segment 14 close to a perfect circle.
- the outer periphery of the hollow tube 22 and the filler 24 are bonded with adhesive 23.
- the flattening at the end face of the outer periphery of the hollow segment 14 is smaller than the flattening at the end face of the outer periphery of the hollow tube 22.
- the flattening ratio at the end face of the outer periphery of the hollow segment 14 is preferably 0 to 0.03.
- the filter segment 16 has, for example, a mouthpiece.
- the filter segment 16 has a mouthpiece located downstream of the hollow segment 14.
- the filter segment 16 has a filter 116a that includes a filter portion 16a, such as a paper filter or acetate tow filter, and a wrapper 16b that wraps around the outer periphery of the filter portion 16a.
- the outer diameter of the flavor element 12, the outer diameter of the hollow segment 14, and the outer diameter of the filter segment 16 (filter 116a) are approximately the same.
- Tipping paper 18 refers to the paper used to connect the flavor element 12, hollow segment 14, and filter segment 16. It is preferable that the tipping paper 18 be the same as that used for the wrappers 12b, 26, and 16b.
- the tipping paper 18 wraps around the flavor element 12, hollow segment 14, and filter segment 16. Therefore, the tipping paper 18 wraps around the tube 14b containing the adsorbent of the hollow segment 14 and the paper tube 14a.
- Flavored product 10a is also provided with a vent 20 that allows air to enter hollow segment 14 when the user draws on the mouthpiece.
- Comparative Example 1 of the flavored product 10a shows an example in which the hollow segment 14 does not have the adsorbent-containing tube 14b, and the filter segment 16 has a first filter 116a and a second filter 116b.
- the first filter 116a is the same as the filter 116a of the filter segment 16 of the flavored product 10a of this embodiment.
- the second filter 116b is connected to the hollow segment 14 on the side opposite to the side on which the flavor element 12 is arranged.
- the second filter 116b is, for example, a hollow paper sheet or a nonwoven fabric sheet.
- the second filter 116b may also be, for example, a hollow acetate filter.
- a flavor product 10c is shown as a comparative example 2 of the flavor product 10a according to this embodiment, in which the adsorbent-containing tube 14b of the hollow segment 14 is not included.
- the overall length and outer diameter of the flavor product 10b of Comparative Example 1 and the flavor product 10c of Comparative Example 2 are the same or approximately the same as the flavor product 10a of this embodiment.
- the overall length is 60 mm, and the outer diameter is 7 mm.
- the total length, outer diameter, and composition of the flavor elements 12 of the flavor product 10b of Comparative Example 1 and the flavor product 10c of Comparative Example 2 are the same as or approximately the same as the total length, outer diameter, and composition of the flavor elements 12 of the flavor product 10a of this embodiment.
- the overall length, outer diameter, and composition of the filter portion 16a including the mouth end of the filter segment 16 of the flavor product 10b of Comparative Example 1 and the flavor product 10c of Comparative Example 2 are the same or approximately the same as the overall length, outer diameter, and composition of the filter portion 16a including the mouth end of the filter segment 16 of the flavor product 10a of this embodiment.
- the overall length of the filter portion 16a is 8 mm.
- An acetate tow filter is used for the filter portion 16a.
- the heating device 100 has a recess 102 into which the flavor element 12 of the flavor product 10a is placed, and a heater 104 that heats the flavor element 12 of the flavor product 10a while it is placed in the recess 102.
- flavor product 10a The action (method of use) of flavor product 10a according to this embodiment will be explained in comparison with flavor product 10b of Comparative Example 1 and flavor product 10c of Comparative Example 2.
- the flavor element 12 of the flavor product 10a is inserted into the recess 102 of the heating device 100, and the heater 104 heats, for example, the outer periphery of the flavor element 12. At this time, it is preferable that the heater 104 heats almost the entire outer periphery of the flavor element 12.
- the flavor raw material 12a of the flavor product 10a is then heated to a temperature sufficient to generate steam components.
- the heating temperature at this time can be such that the flavor raw material 12a is heated to a temperature of 250°C or higher and 400°C or lower.
- the heating temperature of the flavor element 12 of the flavor product 10a is not particularly limited, but is preferably 400°C or lower, more preferably 150°C or higher and 400°C or lower, and even more preferably 200°C or higher and 350°C or lower.
- the vapor components generated from the flavor raw material 12a by heating are inhaled by the user through the mouthpiece of the filter section 16a, passing through the paper tube 14a, the adsorbent-containing tube 14b, and the filter segment 16. In this way, when the user inhales through the mouthpiece, air is drawn in from outside the flavor product 10a through the vent 20, cooling the flavor components of the flavor raw material 12a and promoting the aerosolization of these components.
- the hollow segment 14 efficiently cools and aerosolizes the flavor components of the flavor raw material 12a before they reach the filter segment 16. Therefore, the hollow segment 14 promotes aerosolization of the flavor components from the flavor raw material 12a before they reach the filter segment 16. Furthermore, the hollow segment 14 allows the vapor components generated from the aerosol-containing flavor raw material 12a to pass through more easily than the filter segment 16. Therefore, by using the hollow segment 14, it is possible to promote aerosolization of the flavor components of the flavor raw material 12a while increasing the delivery amount of the vapor components generated from the flavor raw material 12a.
- the adsorbent is added to the wall surface formed by the sheet portion 32 of the hollow tube 22 of the adsorbent-containing tube 14b of the hollow segment 14.
- the adsorbent is present only on the wall surface of the hollow tube 22, but is located within the flow path of the components generated from the flavor raw material 12a. Therefore, in the flavor product 10a of this embodiment, some of the components generated from the flavor raw material 12a, particularly the vapor components, are adsorbed by the adsorbent in the adsorbent-containing tube 14b, travel toward the filter segment 16, and are inhaled by the user through the mouthpiece through the filter segment 16.
- some of the vapor components generated from the flavor raw material 12a are adsorbed by the adsorbent in the adsorbent-containing tube 14b, thereby providing the user with a different smoking experience than when the adsorbent-containing tube 14b is not used.
- a sensory evaluation was conducted on the stimulation experienced by users and the amount of smoke using flavored product 10a according to the present embodiment shown in Figure 1A, flavored product 10b according to Comparative Example 1 shown in Figure 1B, and flavored product 10c according to Comparative Example 2 shown in Figure 1C.
- the evaluation standard was flavored product 10b according to Comparative Example 1 (for Mevius Cold Menthol Ploom X) shown in Figure 1B. Ten people evaluated the results.
- the flavor product 10b of Comparative Example 1 and the flavor product 10c of Comparative Example 2 are used in the same manner as the flavor product 10a of this embodiment. That is, the heater 104 of the heating device 100 heats the outer periphery of the flavor element 12 of the flavor product 10b and the flavor product 10c. The vapor components generated from the flavor raw materials 12a of the flavor product 10b and the flavor product 10c by heating are inhaled by the user through the mouthpiece of the filter segment 16, passing through the paper tube 14a, the adsorbent-containing tube 14b, and the filter segment 16.
- the stimulation received from flavor product 10b when the user used (inhaled) flavor product 10b appropriately was assigned a score of 3, which served as the standard. If the user felt that the stimulation was less than the stimulation received when using flavor product 10b, that was assigned a score of 2, and if the stimulation was even less than that, that was assigned a score of 1.
- the amount of smoke received from flavored product 10b when the user used (inhaled) flavored product 10b appropriately was assigned a score of 3, which served as the standard. In this case, if the user felt that the amount of smoke was less than the amount of smoke felt when using flavored product 10b, this was assigned a score of 2, and if the user felt that the amount of smoke was even less, this was assigned a score of 1.
- flavor product 10a according to this embodiment When flavor product 10a according to this embodiment was used, it was evaluated as being less irritating and more mild than when flavor product 10b of Comparative Example 1 (standard) was used. Furthermore, when flavor product 10a was used, it was also evaluated as being less irritating and more mild than when flavor product 10c was used. Therefore, by passing the vapor components generated from flavor raw material 12a inside hollow tube 22 containing an adsorbent, flavor product 10a according to this embodiment can adsorb irritating components with the adsorbent and reduce the irritation experienced by the user compared to when flavor product 10b of Comparative Example 1 and flavor product 10c of Comparative Example 2 are used, neither of which have an adsorbent in the path of the vapor components generated from flavor raw material 12a.
- the sheet portion 32 of the hollow segment 14 of the flavor product 10a reliably contacts some of the vapor components generated from the flavor raw material 12a, even though the adsorbent is present only on the wall surface of the path along which the vapor components generated from the flavor raw material 12a pass. Therefore, by having the flavor product 10a have hollow segments 14 with adsorbent disposed in the path along which the vapor components generated from the flavor raw material 12a pass, the user can be provided with a sufficient change in smoking taste.
- flavored product 10a according to the present embodiment it was evaluated that the amount of smoke was reduced compared to when flavored product 10b of Comparative Example 1 (baseline) was used, but the amount of reduction was evaluated to be small.
- flavored product 10a according to the present embodiment it was also evaluated that the amount of smoke was reduced compared to when flavored product 10c of Comparative Example 2 was used, but the amount of reduction was evaluated to be small. Therefore, when flavored product 10a according to the present embodiment was used, it was evaluated that the amount of smoke was maintained compared to when flavored product 10b of Comparative Example 1 and flavored product 10c of Comparative Example 2 were used. Therefore, flavored product 10a according to the present embodiment can maintain the same draw response compared to when flavored product 10b of Comparative Example 1 or flavored product 10c of Comparative Example 2 is used.
- the filler 24 is disposed on the outer periphery of the sheet portion 32 of the hollow tube 22, and a wrapper 26 is disposed on the outer periphery of the filler 24, thereby improving the roundness of the adsorbent-containing tube 14b of the hollow segment 14 of the flavored product 10a.
- the adsorbent-containing sheets 321, 322 that form the hollow tube 22 are not subjected to crimping or other processes, which prevents processes that would place stress on the sheets 321, 322.
- the frequency of cleaning the manufacturing equipment for the hollow segment 14 and the flavor product 10a can be reduced. Therefore, more flavor product 10a can be produced per unit time.
- the adsorbent-containing sheets 321, 322 that form the hollow tube 22 are not crimped, and therefore, for example, when the flavor product 10a is manufactured, packaged, and delivered to the user, or when the user takes the flavor product 10a to various regions, some of the granular adsorbent may fall off the sheets 321, 322. Even in this case, when the flavor product 10a according to this embodiment is manufactured, packaged, and delivered to the user, or when the user takes the flavor product 10a to various regions, the granular adsorbent is prevented from falling off the sheets 321, 322, compared to a flavor product (not shown) in which the sheets 321, 322 are crimped, etc. Therefore, by using the flavor product 10a according to this embodiment, deterioration of the appearance of the flavor product 10a can be suppressed.
- a filler 24 is placed around the outer periphery of the hollow tube 22, and a wrapper 26 is further placed around that outer periphery to form an adsorbent-containing tube 14b.
- Fragrances and other additives can be added to the filler 24 or wrapper 26, i.e., nonwoven fabric or paper.
- the flavored product 10a can obtain the different effects that can be achieved by each adsorbent.
- the hollow tube 22 is formed by stacking sheets 321 and 322, both of which contain adsorbent.
- the hollow tube 22 may have the outer sheet 322 shown in Figure 4 as a paper wrapper 36.
- a harmless adhesive 34 such as a water-based adhesive or glue is applied between the outer surface of the sheet 321 placed on the inside and the inner surface of the wrapper 36, maintaining the shape of the sheet portion 32 and covering the outside with the wrapper 36.
- a harmless adhesive 34 such as a water-based adhesive or glue is applied between the outer surface of the sheet 321 placed on the inside and the inner surface of the wrapper 36, maintaining the shape of the sheet portion 32 and covering the outside with the wrapper 36.
- a harmless adhesive 34 such as a water-based adhesive or glue
- a filler 24 is placed on the outside of the hollow tube 22 shown in Figure 7A, and a wrapper 26 is placed on the outside of that to form the adsorbent-containing tube 14b.
- the filler 24 is not necessarily required.
- the wrapper 36 forms the outermost circumference of the adsorbent-containing tube 14b, the same wrapper as the wrapper 26 described above may be used.
- the hollow segment 14 is located downstream of the flavor element 12, and the sheet portion 32 containing the adsorbent is formed as a cylindrical tube containing the adsorbent.
- the wrapper 36 which is directly attached to the outer periphery of the sheet portion 32, forms the outer surface. Therefore, in this case, the filler 24 is not necessary.
- the flatness at the end face of the outer peripheral portion (outer peripheral portion of the wrapper 36) of the adsorbent-containing tube 14b that does not use such a filler 24 is 0.03 to 0.1, or even smaller.
- the outer peripheral portion of the adsorbent-containing tube 14b (the outer peripheral portion of the wrapper 36) that does not use the filler 24 may have a sheet 321 that is formed, for example, in black, that can be seen through the wrapper 36 and tipping paper 18 to the user of the flavored product 10a. In such cases, this may affect the appearance of the flavored product 10a. For this reason, to prevent the outer peripheral surface of the sheet 321 from being visible, it is preferable that the opacity of the wrapper 36 be, for example, 80% or more. Alternatively, it is preferable that the combined opacity of the wrapper 36 and tipping paper 18 be, for example, 90% or more.
- FIG. 7B is a modified example of the hollow tube 22 shown in Figures 4 and 7A.
- the hollow tube 22 of the hollow segment 14 may be formed, for example, by spirally wound adsorbent-containing sheet portions 32.
- the hollow tube 22 of the hollow segment 14 has a double structure.
- the ends 341 of the sheets 323 of the adsorbent-containing sheet portions 32 and the ends 342 of the sheets 324 are arranged without any steps.
- the ends 341 of the sheets 323 of the adsorbent-containing sheet portions 32 in Figure 7B and the ends 342 of the sheets 324 are overlapped.
- the wrapper 36 shown in FIG. 7A be disposed on the outer periphery of the hollow tube 22 shown in FIG. 7B.
- the hollow tube 22 shown in FIG. 7B can also be preferably used as part of the hollow segment 14 without the filler material 24 and wrapper 26 shown in FIG. 2 by disposing the wrapper 36 on the outer periphery of the hollow tube 22.
- a filler 24 be placed on the outside of the hollow tube 22 shown in Figure 7B, and that a wrapper 26 be placed on the outside of that.
- FIG. 7C is a modified example of the hollow tube 22 shown in Figures 4, 7A, and 7B.
- the adsorbent-containing sheet portion 32 of the hollow tube 22 of the hollow segment 14 is formed by fixing an adsorbent-containing sheet 325 to the inside of the sheet 321 shown in Figure 7A using, for example, adhesive 343.
- the sheet 325 is formed, for example, in a roughly S-shape to increase the surface area while suppressing crimping.
- the sheet 325 can increase the contact area with the vapor components generated from the flavor raw material 12a, and is provided as an adjustment portion that adjusts the surface area of the sheet portion 32 to increase it. Therefore, an adjustment portion that adjusts the sheet portion 32 to increase the surface area of the sheet portion 32 is provided inside the hollow tube 22.
- the adsorbent-containing sheet 325 does not have any folded portions, which reduces the load on the sheet 325.
- the particulate adsorbent (see Figures 3A and 3B) is less likely to fall off the sheet 325 than when the sheet is gathered.
- the sheet 325 may be formed into a C-shape, an I-shape (the number "1"), a J-shape, a U-shape, a W-shape, or the number "6" or "9” with few or no folds.
- the sheet 325 may also be formed into a combination of these shapes.
- hollow tube 22 shown in Figure 7C is also suitable for use as the adsorbent-containing tube 14b of the hollow segment 14 without the filler 24 and wrapper 26 shown in Figure 2.
- a filler 24 on the outside of the hollow tube 22 shown in Figure 7C, and then place a wrapper 26 on the outside of that.
- a sheet 322 containing an adsorbent may be used instead of the paper wrapper 36 shown in Figure 7C.
- Figure 7D is a modified example of the hollow tube 22 shown in Figure 4 and Figures 7A-7C.
- the adsorbent-containing sheet portion 32 of the hollow tube 22 of the hollow segment 14 has an adsorbent-containing sheet 326 fixed to the inside of the sheet 321 shown in Figure 7A by, for example, adhesive 344.
- the adsorbent-containing sheet 326 shown in Figure 7D is the adsorbent-containing sheet 325 shown in Figure 7C, which has been arranged in a different shape. Therefore, sheet 326 is provided as an adjustment portion that adjusts the surface area of the sheet portion 32 to increase it. Therefore, an adjustment portion that adjusts the surface area of the sheet portion 32 to increase it is provided on the inside of the hollow tube 22.
- the sheet 326 shown in Figure 7D has some folded portions. However, in the example shown in Figure 7D, there are only two or three such portions. Therefore, it is clear that the particulate adsorbent (see Figures 3A and 3B) is less likely to fall off from the sheet 326 than when the sheet is gathered and has multiple folds.
- hollow tube 22 shown in Figure 7D is also suitable for use as the adsorbent-containing tube 14b of the hollow segment 14 without the filler 24 and wrapper 26 shown in Figure 2.
- a filler 24 on the outside of the hollow tube 22 shown in Figure 7D, and then place a wrapper 26 on the outside of that.
- a sheet 322 containing an adsorbent may be used instead of the paper wrapper 36 shown in Figure 7D.
- a flavor product 10d according to a first modification of the flavor product 10a according to the present embodiment will be described with reference to Fig. 8A.
- the same components or components having the same functions as those in the flavor product 10a according to the embodiment including the above-described modification are designated by the same reference numerals, and detailed description thereof will be omitted.
- the hollow segment 14 of the flavor product 10d according to the first modified example has substantially the same configuration as the adsorbent-containing tube 14b of the hollow segment 14 of the flavor product 10a shown in Figure 1A.
- the cardboard tube 14a does not need to be provided.
- the hollow segment 14 may be an adsorbent-containing tube 14b containing the filler 24 shown in FIG. 2, or a hollow tube 22 (see FIGS. 4, 7A-7D) without the filler 24 may be used as the adsorbent-containing tube 14b.
- the ventilation port 20 of the flavor product 10d according to this first modified example is connected to the inside of the adsorbent-containing tube 14b. That is, the ventilation port 20 connects the inside of the hollow tube 22 with the outside of the flavor product 10d. Therefore, the hollow segment 14 can adjust the degree of cooling of the vapor component generated from the flavor raw material 12a.
- a flavor product 10e according to a second modification of the flavor product 10a according to the present embodiment will be described with reference to Fig. 8B.
- the same components or components having the same functions as those of the flavor product 10a according to the above-described embodiment are designated by the same reference numerals, and detailed description thereof will be omitted.
- the flavor product 10e according to the second modification is also a further modification of the flavor product 10d according to the first modification.
- the hollow segment 14 of the flavor product 10e according to the second modified example does not include the cardboard tube 14a of the hollow segment 14 of the flavor product 10a shown in Figure 1A.
- an adsorbent-containing tube 14b is disposed as the hollow segment 14 between the base end of the flavor element 12 and the tip of the filter segment 16.
- the hollow segment 14 of the flavor product 10e according to the second modified example has substantially the same configuration as the adsorbent-containing tube 14b of the hollow segment 14 of the flavor product 10a shown in Figure 1A.
- the cardboard tube 14a does not need to be provided.
- the adsorbent-containing tube 14b shown in Figure 2 may be used as the hollow segment 14, or a hollow tube 22 (see Figures 4, 7A-7D) without a filler 24 may be used as the adsorbent-containing tube 14b.
- the filter segment 16 has a first filter 116a and a second filter 116b.
- the first filter 116a is a paper filter made from crimped paper material or an acetate tow filter.
- the second filter 116b is, for example, a paper filter made from crimped paper material.
- the ventilation port 20 of the flavor product 10e according to this second modified example is connected to the inside of the adsorbent-containing tube 14b. That is, the ventilation port 20 connects the inside of the hollow tube 22 with the outside of the flavor product 10e. Therefore, the hollow segment 14 can adjust the degree of cooling of the vapor component generated from the flavor raw material 12a.
- the flavored product 10f of this embodiment is a modified version of the flavored product 10a of the first embodiment and the flavored product 10d and 10e of the modified versions.
- Components that are the same as or have the same functions as the flavored products 10a, 10d, and 10e described above are designated by the same reference numerals, and detailed descriptions thereof will be omitted.
- the flavor element 12 is formed as a hollow segment (second hollow segment) having a flavor ingredient 12a, a wrapper 12b on the outside of the flavor ingredient 12a, and a cylindrical hollow tube 12c provided inside the flavor ingredient 12a.
- Flavor raw material 12a is used as a filler that fills the outer periphery of hollow tube 12c.
- the flavor raw material 12a used as a filler can be a plant material such as cut tobacco or shredded tobacco sheets. In other words, the plant material includes tobacco material.
- the hollow tube 12c of the flavor element 12 is formed, for example, in the same manner as the hollow tube 22 shown in Figures 4 and 7A-7D.
- the filler material 24 shown in Figure 2 is not required around the outer periphery of the hollow tube 12c.
- Flavor ingredient 12a is then placed around the outer periphery of hollow tube 12c.
- the outer periphery of flavor ingredient 12a is formed, for example, in a perfect circular shape. Therefore, the outer periphery of wrapper 12b is also formed, for example, in a perfect circular shape.
- a tip plug 17 configured similarly to a paper filter or acetate tow filter formed by crimping paper is disposed at the tip side of the flavor element 12.
- the flavor product item 10f has a tip plug 17 made of, for example, paper, located at the very tip of the flavor product item 10f, upstream of the hollow segment 14.
- tipping paper 18a The outer circumference of the tip plug 17, flavor element 12, and hollow segment 14, which is a paper tube, is wrapped with tipping paper 18a.
- the outer circumference of the hollow segment 14, which is a paper tube, and filter segment 16 is wrapped with tipping paper 18b. Note that part of the rear end of tipping paper 18a is wrapped with part of the tip of tipping paper 18b.
- the heater 104 of the heating device 100 heats the outer periphery of the flavor element 12 of the flavor product 10f according to this embodiment. At this time, the tip plug 17 and the outer periphery of the flavor element 12 are inserted into the recess 102 of the heating device 100.
- the heater 104 of the heating device 100 heats almost the entire outer periphery of the flavor element 12.
- the heater 104 of the heating device 100 then heats the flavor raw material 12a of the flavor product 10f to a temperature sufficient to generate steam components. It is preferable that the heating temperature at this time be approximately the same as the heating temperature of the flavor element 12 of the flavor product 10a, for example.
- the vapor components generated from the flavor raw material 12a by heating are inhaled by the user through the mouthpiece of the filter section 16a, passing through the hollow segment 14 formed by the paper tube 14a and the filter segment 16. In this way, when the user inhales through the mouthpiece, air taken in from outside the flavor product 10f through the air vent 20 cools the flavor components of the flavor raw material 12a, promoting the aerosolization of these components.
- an adsorbent is added to the wall surface formed by the hollow tube 12c of the flavor element 12.
- the adsorbent is only present on the wall surface of the hollow tube 12c, a portion of it is located within the flow path of the components generated from the flavor raw material 12a. Therefore, in the flavor product 10f of this embodiment, some of the components generated from the flavor raw material 12a, particularly the vapor components, are adsorbed by the adsorbent in the hollow tube 12c, travel toward the hollow segment 14 and the filter segment 16, and are inhaled by the user through the filter segment 16 via the mouthpiece.
- the flavor product 10f of this embodiment some of the vapor components generated from the flavor raw material 12a are adsorbed by the adsorbent in the hollow tube 12c, which gives the user a different smoking experience than when the hollow tube 12c is not used.
- the flavor product 10f according to this embodiment allows for easier cleaning of the flavor product 10f manufacturing equipment compared to when, for example, sheets 321, 322 shown in FIG. 4 are used as the hollow tube 12c after being crimped. Furthermore, the frequency of cleaning the flavor element 12 manufacturing equipment and the flavor product 10f manufacturing equipment can be reduced. Therefore, more flavor product 10f can be manufactured per unit time.
- the adsorbent-containing sheets 321, 322 that form the hollow tube 12c are not crimped, and therefore, for example, when the flavor product 10f is manufactured, packaged, and delivered to the user, or when the user takes the flavor product 10f to various regions, some of the granular adsorbent may fall off the sheets 321, 322. Even in this case, when the flavor product 10f according to this embodiment is manufactured, packaged, and delivered to the user, or when the user takes the flavor product 10f to various regions, the granular adsorbent is prevented from falling off the sheets 321, 322, compared to a flavor product (not shown) in which the sheets 321, 322 are crimped, etc. Therefore, by using the flavor product 10f according to this embodiment, deterioration of the appearance of the flavor product 10f can be suppressed.
- the flavor element 12 is formed as an adsorbent-containing tube, in which a flavor raw material 12a is placed and a wrapper 12b is placed around the outer periphery of the flavor raw material 12a.
- the flavored product 10f can obtain the different effects that can be achieved by each adsorbent.
- the flavor raw material 12a is heated by a heater to generate a vapor component from the flavor raw material 12a.
- the flavor raw material 12a of the flavor element 12 of the flavor product 10a, 10d, 10e, 10f may be burned like a cigarette to generate a vapor component from the flavor raw material 12a, and the user may taste the flavor through the mouthpiece.
- a combustion type flavor product 10g according to the third embodiment will be described with reference to Fig. 10.
- the flavor product 10g according to this embodiment is a modified version of the flavor product 10a according to the first embodiment, the flavor product products 10d and 10e according to the modifications, and the flavor product 10f according to the second embodiment.
- the same components or components having the same functions as those of the flavor products 10a, 10d, 10e, and 10f described above are designated by the same reference numerals, and detailed description thereof will be omitted.
- the flavor product 10g of this embodiment an example will be described in which the flavor element 12 is not simply heated at its outer periphery, but rather the tip of the flavor element 12 is lit and burned.
- the flavor product 10g of this embodiment is used as a combustion-type flavor product, i.e., a cigarette.
- a hollow segment 14 is provided between the flavor element 12 and the filter segment 16.
- the hollow segment 14 may be an adsorbent-containing tube 14b containing the filler 24 shown in FIG. 2, or a hollow tube 22 (see FIGS. 4, 7A-7D) without the filler 24 may be used as the adsorbent-containing tube 14b.
- the tip of the flavor element 12 of the flavor product 10g is lit. This causes the flavor raw material 12a of the flavor product 10g to generate steam.
- the vapor components generated from the flavor raw material 12a by combustion are inhaled by the user through the mouthpiece of the filter section 16a, passing through the hollow segment 14 formed by the paper tube 14a and the filter segment 16. In this way, when the user inhales through the mouthpiece, air is drawn in from outside the flavor product 10g through the vent 20, cooling the flavor components of the flavor raw material 12a and promoting the aerosolization of these components.
- the adsorbent is internally attached to the wall surface formed by the sheet portion 32 of the hollow tube 22 of the adsorbent-containing tube 14b of the hollow segment 14.
- the adsorbent is present only on the wall surface of the hollow tube 22, but is located within the flow path of the components generated from the flavor raw material 12a. Therefore, in the flavor product 10g of this embodiment, some of the components generated from the flavor raw material 12a, particularly the vapor components, are adsorbed by the adsorbent in the adsorbent-containing tube 14b, travel toward the filter segment 16, and are inhaled by the user through the mouthpiece through the filter segment 16.
- some of the vapor components generated from the flavor raw material 12a are adsorbed by the adsorbent in the adsorbent-containing tube 14b, thereby imparting a different smoking taste to the user compared to when the adsorbent-containing tube 14b is not used.
- the flavor product 10g according to this embodiment allows for easier cleaning of the flavor product 10g manufacturing equipment compared to when, for example, sheets 321, 322 shown in FIG. 4 are used as the hollow tube 22 after being crimped. Furthermore, the frequency of cleaning the hollow segment 14 manufacturing equipment and the flavor product 10g manufacturing equipment can be reduced. Therefore, more flavor product 10g can be manufactured per unit time.
- the adsorbent-containing sheets 321, 322 that form the hollow segments 14 are not crimped, and therefore, for example, when the flavor product 10g is manufactured, packaged, and delivered to the user, or when the user takes the flavor product 10g to various regions, some of the granular adsorbent material falls off the sheets 321, 322. Even in this case, when the flavor product 10g according to this embodiment is manufactured, packaged, and delivered to the user, or when the user takes the flavor product 10g to various regions, the granular adsorbent material is prevented from falling off the sheets 321, 322, compared to a flavor product (not shown) in which the sheets 321, 322 are crimped, or the like. Therefore, by using the flavor product 10g according to this embodiment, deterioration of the appearance of the flavor product 10g can be suppressed.
- the flavored product 10f can obtain the different effects that can be achieved by each adsorbent.
- the present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiments, and various modifications can be made in the implementation stage without departing from the spirit of the invention. Furthermore, the various embodiments may be implemented in appropriate combinations, in which case the combined effects can be obtained. Furthermore, the above-described embodiments include various inventions, and various inventions can be extracted by combining selected elements from the multiple elements disclosed. For example, if the problem can be solved and the desired effect can be obtained even if some elements are deleted from all elements shown in the embodiments, the configuration from which these elements are deleted can be extracted as an invention.
