  • a liquefied gas carrier enters dry dock, in order to have its liquefied gas tanks inspected, any flammable gas remaining in the tanks is first replaced with inert gas, and then the inert gas in the tank is further replaced with air, creating an environment in which workers can enter the tank. Furthermore, before loading into a liquefied gas tank after inspection, the air in the tank is first replaced with inert gas, and then the inert gas in the tank is further replaced with vaporized liquefied gas from the cargo, after which cooling of the tank begins.
  • Liquefied gas carriers are equipped with inert gas generators that produce inert gas, and the inert gas produced by the inert gas generator is used in the gas replacement inside the tanks as described above.
  • Patent Document 1 describes how, on a ship equipped with an inert gas generator, cargo tanks, and ballast tanks, inert gas generated by the inert gas generator is stored in a pressurized state in the ballast tank, and the inert gas stored in the ballast tank is used to replace the gas in the cargo tank.
