Definitions
- This disclosure relates to a beam determination method.
- Non-Patent Document 1 For NR (New Radio) (also known as “5G”), the successor system to LTE (Long Term Evolution), technologies are being considered that meet the requirements of a large-capacity system, high-speed data transmission, low latency, simultaneous connection of a large number of terminals, low cost, and low power consumption (see, for example, Non-Patent Document 1).
- Massive MIMO which expands MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) technology, which was originally designed to use a few dozen antenna elements, to hundreds or even thousands of antenna elements.
- MIMO technology uses multiple antenna elements at the base station (BS) and terminal (MS), respectively, to perform spatial multiplexing and increase communication capacity.
- High-frequency bands have greater radio wave attenuation and are less susceptible to diffraction than low-frequency bands. As a result, reception quality in high-frequency bands is significantly degraded due to short transmission distances and obstructions.
- BF Beamforming
- Massive MIMO uses beamforming with multiple antenna elements to form a beam that increases the received power in a specific direction.
- the transmission distance can be extended.
- the base station or terminal When transmitting a signal using beamforming, the base station or terminal, for example, performs beam search to select a beam to apply to data communication from among multiple candidate beams so that the reception quality at the communicating party is good. For example, the base station applies multiple predetermined beam candidates to downlink reference signals (e.g., SSB (Synchronization Signal Block)) and transmits them.
- the terminal reports the received power for each beam measured based on the received downlink reference signals to the base station.
- the base station determines the beam to apply to the terminal based on the received power from each terminal.
- hybrid beamforming is used to reduce the amount of calculation required for MIMO signal processing, in which part of the MIMO signal processing is performed by analog circuits.
- one method is to install multiple transmission points. From the perspective of installing multiple transmission points, it is also effective to use reflectors, which have a small installation size and restrictions. Note that reflectors may be installed intentionally, or they may be objects that are not installed intentionally, such as ordinary buildings or natural objects.
- a RIS it is possible to install a RIS to avoid obstructions or to form multiple paths to reduce spatial correlation and improve MIMO capacity.
- a RIS By installing a RIS in this way, multiple different propagation paths (hereinafter simply referred to as paths) can be formed even when beamforming is performed between a base station and a terminal.
- the base station and terminal can achieve spatial multiplexing by processing transmission and reception signals while understanding the status of each path.
- One aspect of the present disclosure aims to provide technology that enables appropriate communication between a base station and a terminal in a wireless communication system that includes a reflector as well as a base station and a terminal.
- a beam determination method in a wireless communication system in which a base station and a terminal communicate using multiple subarrays via paths in the direct wave direction and/or paths via a reflector, performs a first process of assigning subarrays from among the multiple subarrays to the paths in the direct wave direction or the paths via the reflector, a second process of selecting intermediate beams formed by the subarrays based on the received power of candidate beams formed by the subarrays, a third process of measuring the communication quality of the intermediate beams, and a fourth process of determining each of multiple final beams formed by the multiple subarrays from the multiple intermediate beams based on the multiple communication qualities by performing the first process, the second process, and the third process at least once for each of the multiple subarrays.
- the base station and the terminal can communicate appropriately.

- a direct wave or LOS (loss of sight)
- the base station In beam search, the base station generally searches for a beam that maximizes the terminal's received power (i.e., performs beam search based on the terminal received power maximization criterion).
- the path via the RIS has greater propagation loss than the direct wave path, so the direct wave path will be selected during beam search, and even if a RIS is installed, it is highly likely that the RIS cannot actually be used (i.e., the path shown in Figure 23 will not be formed).
- Figure 24 is a diagram showing an example of spatial multiplexing using a path that does not go through the RIS, in which a direct wave path is formed by subarray #1 provided in the base station and subarray #1 provided in the terminal, and a direct wave path is also formed by subarray #2 provided in the base station and subarray #2 provided in the terminal.
- Figure 24 shows a case where the RIS cannot actually be used even if it is installed.

- the inventors have come up with a technology that adaptively changes the allocation of beams or the number of beams between direct waves and waves that pass through a reflector depending on the situation. This technology will be described in detail in the second embodiment below.

- BS10 and MS20 search (select or decide) for a beam in the direct wave direction among some of the subarrays, and thereby form a beam in the direct wave direction using some of the subarrays (Step 1).
- BS10 forms a beam in the direction of RIS30 using another subarray (Step 2).
- Step 2 can be performed as a result of beamforming performed in Step 1.
- RIS30 forms a beam in the direction of MS20 by BS10 suppressing the signal in the direct wave direction to MS20 (Step 3).
- MS20 forms a beam in the direction of RIS30 using another subarray (Step 4). Steps 3 and 4 can be performed as a result of beamforming performed in Step 2.
- Step 3 may also be performed by MS20. That is, in step 3, RIS 30 may form a beam in the direction of BS 10 or MS 20 by MS 10 suppressing signals in the direction of direct waves to BS 20. Also, if the number of RISs is two or more and the number of subarrays in BS 10 and MS 20 is three or more, a beam that passes through RIS 30 can be similarly selected by repeating steps 2 to 4. In this case, BS 30 also suppresses signals in the direction that passes through the selected RIS 30 in step 3.
- the wireless communication system 1 (BS 10, MS 20, RIS 30) forms a null beam at least in the direction of the direct wave to MS 20, and can select or determine the beam (propagation path) along which the signal will propagate via RIS 30 based on the received power of the measurement signal.
- FIG. 14 shows the results of this simulation (beam selection by maximum power search).
- (A), (B), (C), and (D) of FIG. 14 respectively show beam selection by the first subarray of the BS (corresponding to subarray 111 ), the first subarray of the MS (corresponding to subarray 211 ), and the second subarray of the RIS and MS (corresponding to subarray 212 ) when null beamforming according to embodiment 1 is used.
- (A), (B), (C), and (D) of FIG. 14 respectively show beam selection by the first subarray of the BS, the first subarray of the MS, and the second subarray of the RIS and MS (corresponding to subarray 212) when null beamforming according to embodiment 1 is not used (comparative example).
- the beam for the first subarray of the BS is directed toward the MS
- the beam for the first subarray of the MS is directed toward the BS.
- null beamforming when null beamforming according to embodiment 1 is used, it can be seen that the beam is directed in the intended direction (i.e., toward the MS), as shown in Figure 14(C). On the other hand, when null beamforming is not used, it appears that the power is minimized when the beam is directed toward the MS, as shown in Figure 14(c). Under the conditions of this simulation example, the LOS beam and the beam in the RIS direction are in opposite phase, and it is thought that as the power of the beam via the RIS increases, it cancels out with the LOS beam, resulting in lower power at the MS end.
- null beamforming according to embodiment 1 when null beamforming according to embodiment 1 is used for the second subarray of the MS, it can be seen that the beam is directed in the intended direction (the RIS direction), as shown in Figure 14(D).
- the power is maximized when the beam is directed toward the BS, as shown in Figure 14(d).
- Figure 15 shows the results of this simulation (throughput simulation results).
- "Beam #1” shown in Figure 15 represents the beam of the first subarray of the BS and the beam of the first subarray of the MS.

- well-known techniques using a Butler matrix or DFT may be used to perform beamforming so that a single array antenna does not emit a beam in a specific direction.
- suppressing signals in the direct wave direction or the direction via a selected RIS may be achieved by signal processing using multiple array antennas of the BS 10 and/or the MS 20, or by directivity shaping of any array antenna of the BS 10 and/or the MS 20.
- beam selection is performed for the subarrays of BS 10, the subarrays of MS 20, and the RIS 30.
- these processes e.g., beam selection for subarrays 11 1 to 11 X of BS 10 and subarrays 21 1 to 21 Y of MS 20 (and RIS 30)
- beam selections can be performed simultaneously by (1) suppressing signals in the direct wave direction or the direction via the selected RIS by synthesizing reference signals of the same frequency through signal processing using multiple array antennas of BS 10 and/or MS 20, and (2) multiplexing the reference signals in the frequency direction. This can speed up beam selection.
- Some or all of the above-described processing by BS10 and MS20 may alternatively or additionally be performed by the other device.

The allocation unit 134 determines the combination of beam number allocations that will result in the best communication quality as the final allocation.

Abstract
Description
LTE(Long Term Evolution)の後継システムであるNR(New Radio)(「5G」ともいう。)

時間領域は、OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing)シンボル数で定義されてもよい。
実施の形態1において、複信(Duplex)方式は、TDD(Time Divison Duplex)方式であってもよいし、FDD(Frequency Divison Duplex)方式であってもよい。
DL信号には、例えば、下りリンクのデータ信号、及び、制御情報(例えば、DCI(Downlink Control Information))が含まれてよい。 また、DL信号には、上位レイヤの制御情報(例えば、RRC(Radio Resource Control)の制御情報)が含まれてもよい。
例えば、データチャネルには、PDSCH(Physical Downlink Shared Channel)が含まれ、制御チャネルには、PDCCH(Physical Downlink Control Channel)が含まれてよい。
DL信号に含まれる参照信号には、例えば、DMRS(Demodulation Reference Signal)、PTRS(Phase Tracking Reference Signal)、CSI-RS(Channel State Information-Reference Signal)、SRS(Sounding Reference Signal)、及び位置情報用のPRS(Positioning Reference Signal)のいずれか少なくとも1つが含まれてよい。
例えば、DL信号の送信に使用されるチャネルには、RACH(Random Access Channel)及びPBCH(Physical Broadcast Channel)が含まれてよい。RACHは、例えば、RA-RNTI(Random Access Radio Network Temporary Identifier)を含むDCIの送信に用いられてよい。
これにより、RIS30(例えば、図示していないビーム形成部)は、MS20方向のビームを形成することができる。

スロットは、時間領域において1つ又は複数のシンボル(OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing)シンボル、SC-FDMA(Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access)シンボル等)で構成されてもよい。
ミニスロットより大きい時間単位で送信されるPDSCH(又はPUSCH)は、PDSCH(又はPUSCH)マッピングタイプAと呼ばれてもよい。ミニスロットを用いて送信されるPDSCH(又はPUSCH)は、PDSCH(又はPUSCH)マッピングタイプBと呼ばれてもよい。
BWPには、UL用のBWP(UL BWP)と、DL用のBWP(DL BWP)とが含まれてもよい。
