Abstract

An air handling system may include a door frame configured to operatively couple to a sliding door, comprising, a top guide track configured to slidably engage a top section of the sliding door; and a lower guide rail. The air handling system may include the sliding door, comprising: a guide wheel configured to run along the lower guide rail, a window: one or more air movement units aligned with the window, the one or more air movement units comprising: a fan; and a fan frame; and a bracket configured to attach the fan frame to the window. The air handling system may include a plurality of walls, wherein the door frame and the sliding door are incorporated into at least one wall of the plurality of walls to form an air handling chamber. The air handling system may include a second door containing filter units.

Description

AIR HANDLING UNIT WITH FILTER EMBEDDED SERVICE ACCESS DOORS AND SERVICE ACCESS SLIDING FAN DOORS CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS [0001] The present application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Patent Application Number 63/615,967, filed December 29, 2023, which is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety. TECHNICAL FIELD [0002] The present disclosure relates to air handling and air filtration systems and more particularly to structural components (e.g., walls and doors) of air handling and air filtration systems. BACKGROUND [0003] Air handling and filtration systems are important for a variety of industries and companies that have strict air quality requirements. A requirement for these systems is that installed equipment must be easily serviceable, even when available space for access is limited. However, service access can be difficult to incorporate within these systems, leaving service operators unable to easily access and service air handling and air filtration equipment. Therefore, there is a need for air handling and air filtration systems that allow easy access for service operators in a space-efficient manner. SUMMARY [0004] Accordingly, the present disclosure is directed to an air handling system that includes a sliding door that when opened, reveals a service entrance that enables service operators to enter the air handling system. The sliding door is couplable to one or more air movement units (e.g., fans), that move air into the air handling system when the sliding door is closed. The air handling system may also include an air filtration system that includes filter units incorporated into walls and/or another door. [0029] Disclosed is an air handling system that includes a door with air movement units, such as blowers or fans, integrated into the door. The door may be a hinged door or a sliding door. When the door is moved to a closed position, and the air movement units are turned on, air is moved through the door and into, or out of, the air handling system, which may include an air handling chamber. When in the open position, the door reveals a service entrance that can accommodate a service operator. [0030] Also disclosed is an air filtration system that includes a door that includes a filter window (e.g., an open space) that is integrated or incorporated with a plurality of filter units and configured such that air passing through the filter window is filtered by the filter units. The air filtration system may also include one or more walls or wall segments with filter windows and integrated filter units. When the door is opened, a service entrance is revealed that can accommodate a service operator, such as a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) technician. These combined systems may have one or more doors that include air movement units, and one or more doors that include the filter units, enabling a service operator to enter a chamber through one door, such as the door that includes air movement units, and leave through a different door, such as the door that includes the filter units. [0032] In embodiments, and as shown in FIG.1A, an external view of a door 100 of an air handling system 104 is presented. The door 100 may be configured as a hinged door or a sliding door. Although a sliding door 100 is presented throughout this disclosure, a hinged door may also be used. The sliding door 100 includes a top section 108 that slidably couples to a top guide track and one or more guide wheels 112a-c that are configured to support the weight of the sliding door 100 as it slides or runs along a lower guide rail. The sliding door 100 further includes one or more panels 116a-b, one or more windows 120, and one or more air movement units 124a-b (e.g., fans or blowers) configured to move air through the window 120. The window 120 is obscured by the one or more air movement units 124a-b in FIG.1A. In embodiments, the air movement units 124a-b are fixed to the window 120. In some embodiments. In embodiments, one or more finger guards 138 are secured or otherwise disposed to one or more window jambs 128a-d of the sliding door 100 via one or more brackets 132a-b (e.g., on an external side of the sliding door 100). The one or more air movement units 124a-b may further include a fan frame 136a-b (e.g., the cross-like structure), a fan 140a-b (e.g., a fan rotor), and an inlet ring 142. The air handling chamber 200 may be configured as a modular unit, having an open end 212 that can be added to a series of modular units to form an elongated air handling chamber 200. The door frame 216 includes a top guide track 220 configured to slideably engage a top section 108 of the sliding door 100. The door frame 216 further includes a lower guide rail 224 configured to receive the one or more guide wheels 112a-c. When the sliding door 100 is moved from a closed position to an open position, the surface entrance 214 of the air handling chamber 200 is made visible, revealing an interior 228 of the air handling chamber 200, as shown in FIG. 2B. The interior 228 may include air handling componentry 232 used in air handling systems including, but not limited to, cooling units, thermostats, compressors, evaporator coils, and heat exchangers. The sliding door 100 may include one or more slide mechanisms 304a-b attached to either the sliding door 100, the top guide track 220, or a wall 204 that secures the door within the top guide track 220 and/or reduces friction of the sliding door 100 when sliding. The one or more slide mechanisms 304a- b may include, but not be limited to, a bearing. For example, the bearing may include a wheel bearing paired with a wheel track, or a linear bearing. In another example, the bearing may include, or be integrated with, a prismatic joint or slider. The top guide track 220 may further include an attachment post 308 configured to secure one or more items to the sliding door 100, such as the one or more air movement units 124. [0036] A close-up of the lower guide rail 224 slidably coupled to one of the guide wheels 112c of the sliding door 100 is shown in FIG. 3B. The guide wheel 112c is coupled to a main section 312 of the sliding door 100 via a fork 316. The guide wheel 112c includes a groove 320 that aligns with a rail tongue 324 that both supports the weight of the sliding door 100 and guides the guide wheel 112c along the lower guide rail 224. [0038] In embodiments, an air filtration system 400 is disclosed, as shown in FIG.4A. The air filtration system 400 may include one or more components of the air handling system 104, and vice-versa. The air filtration system 400 includes a door frame 404 and a first door 408 couplable to the door frame. The first door 408 may be coupled to the door frame 404 via any mechanism including, but not limited to, a pivot mechanism or a sliding mechanism. For example, the first door 408 may be pivotably couplable to the door frame 404 via a hinge 412, as shown in FIG.4A. [0039] In embodiments, the first door 408 includes one or more filter units 416a-c configured to filter air that flows through the door. In some instances, the one or more filter units 416a-c may each include a filter frame 420a-c that secures the one or more filter units 416a-c to the first door 408. In embodiments, each of the one or more filter units fits into a filter subframe that is then fit within the filter frame 420a-c. Removal of a filter unit 416 from the first door 408 reveals a filter window 508, as shown in FIG. 5A. The one or more filter units 416a-c may slide into place or be secured into place via a hinge. [0040] The first door 408 may include any number of filter units 416 including but not limited to 1 filter unit, 2 filter units, 3 filter units, 4 filter units, 6 filter units, 8 filter units or 10 or more filter units. The filter units 416 may include any type, shape, or style of air filter or air filter material including, but not limited to, high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters. The filter units 416 may include any number of filter elements 424. [0041] An opening of the first door reveals a service entrance 426. The service entrance 426 has a dimension that enables a service operator to enter entirely into the air filtration system 400. The service entrance 426 of the air filtration system 400 may have similar dimensions to the air handling system 104. For example, the service entrance 426 may have a height of approximately (e.g., ± 6 inches) four feet, a height of approximately five feet, a height of approximately six feet, or a height of approximately seven feet or greater). [0042] In embodiments, the air filtration system 400 includes a wall 428. The wall 428 may be a solid wall (e.g., with no first door 408), may include the first door 408, or may include two doors (e.g., each door including filters similar to the first door 408. Besides the filter units 416a-c of the first door 408, the wall 428 may include one or more filter units 416e-f, which may be similar in number and form as the filter units 416a-c incorporated into, or integrated with, the first door 408. [0043] In embodiments, the air filtration system 400 may include a plurality of walls 428a-d and a ceiling panel 432 that define an air filtration chamber 436, as shown in FIG. 4B. The air filtration chamber 436 provides a plenum 440 wherein a pressure moves (e.g., forces) air across the filter units 416a-f. Any one of the walls 428a-d may incorporate one or more filter units 416. The air filtration chamber 436 may have one or more components in common with the air handling chamber 200 and in some instances, the air filtration chamber 436 is, or acts as, the air handling chamber 200. For example, the air filtration chamber 436 of the air filtration system 400 may include the sliding door 100 and the one or more air movement units 124a-b of the air handling chamber 200. In this manner, the air filtration chamber 436 may enable a service operator to enter into the air filtration chamber 436 through either the sliding door 100 or first door 408 and exit the air filtration chamber 436 through either the sliding door 100 or first door 408. For the sake of clarity, when initially discussing the sliding door 100 within the system 104, 400, the first door 408 may be referred to as a second door. [0044] In embodiments, the filter units 416 are incorporated into at least 70% of one of a surface 444 (e.g., the entire external surface) of one of the walls 428 of the air filtration chamber 436. For example, the filter units 416 may be incorporated into at least 80% of the surface 444 of one of the walls 428 of the air filtration chamber 436. In another example, the filter units 416 may be incorporated into at least 90% of the surface 444 of one of the walls 428 of the air filtration chamber 436. In another example, the filter units 416 may be incorporated into at least 95% of the surface 444 of one of the walls 428 of the air filtration chamber 436. Docket No. LIE-THM-23-120.PCT PATENT [0045] Back and front perspective views of an air filtration chamber 436 that includes a modular expansion of walls 428a-c, first doors 408a-c, ceiling panels 432a-c, sliding doors 100a-c, and one or more air movement units 124a-c are shown in FIGS.5A-5B. Each air filtration module 500a-c of the air filtration chamber 436 may include an isolated plenum 440. Conversely, the air filtration chamber 436 may include a single air filtration chamber 436 shared among one or more modules 500. As shown in inset 504 of FIG.5B, the filter units 416 may be individually removed from the first door 408 or the wall 428, revealing a filter window 508. An air filtration chamber 436 that includes three air filtration modules 500a-c is shown with the first doors 408a-c open in FIG. 5C. The same air filtration chamber 436 is shown from a rear view in FIG.5C, with the air filtration chamber 436 having one sliding door 100c slid into an open position. [0046] FIG. 6A illustrates a filter corridor 600 containing a plurality of air filtration modules 500a-d of the air filtration chamber 436. The filter corridor 600 provides a boundary between a first environment 604 and a second environment 608. For example, the filter corridor 600 may provide a boundary between a first room and a second room (e.g., providing a septum that separates two parts of a room). In another example, the filter corridor 600 provides a boundary between a first building and a second building. In another example, the provides a boundary between a first building (e.g., integrated into a building wall), and an outside area. The air filtration system 400 may include a platform 612 and/or ceiling 616 coupled to the filter corridor that provides a barrier or seal so that air exchange between the first environment 604 and the second environment 608 is limited to the air exchange through the filter units 416. The filter corridor 600 may include all or part of an available boundary between the first environment 604 and the second environment 608. For example, the boundary between the first environment 604 and the second environment 608 may include a length of a solid wall (e.g., a wall that is not part of the system 104, 400) and a length of the filter corridor 600. [0047] In embodiments, the filter corridor 600 includes a plurality of doors (e.g., the sliding door 100 and/or the first door 408) facing the first environment 604 and the second environment 608, as described above. For example, the filter corridor 600 may be configured so that the first environment 604 may face one or more first doors 408 (e.g., as shown in FIG. 6A), with one or more sliding doors 100 facing the second Docket No. LIE-THM-23-120.PCT PATENT environment 608. Conversely, the filter corridor 600 may be configured so that the second environment 608 may face one or more first doors 408, with one or more sliding doors 100 facing the first environment 604. In another example, both the first environment 604 and the second environment 608 face first doors 408. In another example, both the first environment 604 and the second environment 608 face sliding doors 100. An illustration of the filter corridor 600 viewed from the second environment is shown in FIG.6B. [0048] As described herein, the air handling system 104 may include one or more of the sliding door 100, the door frame 216 the one or more walls 204 (e.g., including the wall 204 that incorporates the sliding door 100), the ceiling panel 208, and the air handling chamber 200. The air handling system 104 may further include an extended air handling chamber 200 constructed of one or more modules 500 containing the sliding door 100 and other components of the air handling system 104. The air handling system 104 may further be arranged as a filter corridor 600, similar to the filter corridor constructed of modules 500 of the air filtration system 400. The air handling system 104 may further include the first door 408, walls 420, and air filtration chamber 436 of the air filtration system 400. [0049] As described herein, the air filtration system 400 may include one or more of the first door 408, the one or more walls 428, the ceiling panel 432, and the air filtration chamber 436. The air filtration system 400 may further include the one or more modules 500 and may include the filter corridor 600. The air filtration system 400 may further include one or more of the sliding door 100 (e.g., incorporated into at least one wall 428), the door frame 216 the one or more walls 204 (e.g., including the wall 204 that incorporates the sliding door 100), the ceiling panel 208, and the air handling chamber 200. [0050] The herein described subject matter sometimes illustrates different components contained within, or connected with, different other components. It is to be understood that such depicted architectures are merely exemplary, and that in fact many other architectures can be implemented which achieve the same functionality. In a conceptual sense, any arrangement of components to achieve the same functionality is effectively "associated" such that the desired functionality is achieved. Hence, any two components herein combined to achieve a particular functionality can Docket No. LIE-THM-23-120.PCT PATENT be seen as "associated with" each other such that the desired functionality is achieved, irrespective of architectures or intermedial components. Likewise, any two components so associated can also be viewed as being "operably connected", or "operably coupled", to each other to achieve the desired functionality, and any two components capable of being so associated can also be viewed as being "operably couplable", to each other to achieve the desired functionality. Specific examples of operably couplable include but are not limited to physically mateable and/or physically interacting components and/or wirelessly interactable and/or wirelessly interacting components and/or logically interacting and/or logically interactable components. Claims

An air handling system comprising: a door frame configured to operatively couple to a sliding door, wherein the door frame comprises a top guide track configured to slidably engage a top section of the sliding door; and a lower guide rail; and the sliding door comprising: a guide wheel configured to run along the lower guide rail; a window; one or more air movement units aligned with the window, the one or more air movement units comprising: a fan; and a fan frame; and a bracket configured to attach the fan frame to the window. 2. The air handling system of claim 1, wherein the one or more air movement units are disposed on an external side of the sliding door. 3. The air handling system of claim 1, wherein the sliding door is configured to slide from a closed position to an open position revealing a service entrance that is configured to enable a service operator to enter entirely into the air handling system. 4. The air handling system of claim 1, further comprising a plurality of walls, wherein the door frame and the sliding door are incorporated into at least one wall of the plurality of walls to form an air handling chamber. 5. The air handling system of claim 4, further comprising a second door, wherein the sliding door and the second door are configured to enable a service operator to enter through the sliding door and exit through the second door. 6. The air handling system of claim 4, further comprising: a filter window incorporated into at least one wall of the plurality of walls; and Docket No. LIE-THM-23-120.PCT PATENT a plurality of filter units incorporated into the filter window and configured to filter air passing through the filter window, at least one of the plurality of filter units comprising: a filter frame; and one or more filter elements. 7. The air handling system of claim 4, further comprising: a second door comprising: a filter window; and a plurality of filter units, incorporated into the filter window and configured to filter air passing through the filter window, at least one filter unit of the plurality of filter units comprising: a filter frame; and one or more filter elements, wherein the sliding door and the second door are configured to enable a service operator to enter through the sliding door and exit through the second door. 8. The air handling system of claim 4, wherein the one or more air movement units are disposed on an external side of the sliding door, wherein sliding the sliding door from a closed position to an open position reveals a service entrance configured to enable a service operator to enter entirely into the air handling system.

An air filtration system comprising: a door frame; and a first door pivotably coupled to the door frame via at least one hinge, the first door comprising: a filter window; and a plurality of filter units incorporated into the filter window and configured to filter air passing through the filter window, at least one of the plurality of filter units comprising: a filter frame; and a plurality of filter elements. 10. The air filtration system of claim 9, further comprising a plurality of walls, wherein the door frame, the first door, and the plurality of walls form an air filtration chamber. 11. The air filtration system of claim 10, wherein at least one filter unit of the plurality of filter units is incorporated into at least one wall of the plurality of walls. 12. The air filtration system of claim 10, wherein an opening of the first door reveals a service entrance configured to enable a service operator to enter entirely into the air filtration chamber. 13. The air filtration system of claim 10, further comprising: a door frame incorporated into at least one wall of the plurality of walls of the air filtration chamber, wherein the door frame comprises: a top guide track configured to engage a slidably engage a top section of a sliding door; and a lower guide rail; and the sliding door, comprising: a guide wheel configured to run along the lower guide rail; a window comprising a window; and one or more air movement units aligned with the window, the one or more air movement units comprising: a fan; Docket No. LIE-THM-23-120.PCT PATENT a fan frame; and a coupler configured to attach the fan frame to the window, wherein the sliding door and the first door are configured to enable a service operator to enter through the sliding door and exit through the first door.

An air handling system comprising: a filter corridor comprising a plurality of air filtration modules, wherein one or more air filtration modules of the plurality of air filtration modules comprise: a door frame configured to operatively couple to a sliding door, wherein the door frame comprises; a top guide track configured to slidably engage a top section of the sliding door; and a lower guide rail; and the sliding door, comprising: a guide wheel configured to run along the lower guide rail; a window: one or more air movement units aligned with the window, the one or more air movement units comprising: a fan; and a fan frame; and a bracket configured to attach the fan frame to the window. 15. The air handling system of claim 14, further comprising a plurality of walls, wherein the door frame and the sliding door are incorporated into at least one wall of the plurality of walls to form an air handling chamber. 16. The air handling system of claim 15, further comprising a second door, wherein the sliding door and the second door are configured to enable a service operator to enter through the sliding door and exit through the second door. 17. The air handling system of claim 15, further comprising: a filter window incorporated into at least one wall of the plurality of walls; and a plurality of filter units incorporated into the filter window and configured to filter air passing through the filter window, at least one of the plurality of filter units comprising: a filter frame; and one or more filter elements. 18. The air handling system of claim 15, further comprising: Docket No. LIE-THM-23-120.PCT PATENT a second door comprising: a filter window; and a plurality of filter units, incorporated into the filter window and configured to filter air passing through the filter window, at least one filter unit of the plurality of filter units comprising: a filter frame; and one or more filter elements, wherein the sliding door and the second door are configured to enable a service operator to enter through the sliding door and exit through the second door. 19. The air handling system of claim 14, wherein the filter corridor provides a boundary between a first environment and a second environment. 20. The air handling system of claim 19, further comprising at least one of a platform or a ceiling coupled to the filter corridor configured to provide a barrier between the first environment and the second environment.
