Abstract
본 발명은 전고체 전지에 관한 것으로, 보다 상세하게는, 복수 개의 단위셀들 및 복수 개의 탄성 패드들이 서로 교번적으로 적층된 스택셀을 포함하되, 상기 탄성 패드는 폴리머층 및 상기 폴리머층에 침투된(infiltrated) 금속결정을 포함하고, 상기 탄성 패드는 상기 복수개의 단위셀들을 전기적으로 연결한다.
Description
본 발명은 전고체 전지에 관한 것이다.
최근 산업상의 요구에 의하여 에너지 밀도와 안전성이 높은 전지의 개발이 활발하게 이루어지고 있다. 예를 들어, 리튬 이온 전지는 정보 관련 기기, 통신 기기 분야뿐만 아니라 자동차 분야에서도 실용화되고 있다. 자동차 분야에 있어서는 생명과 관계되기 때문에 특히 안전이 중요시된다.
전해액을 고체전해질로 대체한 전고체 전지가 제안되고 있다. 전고체 전지는 가연성 유기 분산매를 사용하지 않음으로써, 단락이 발생해도 화재나 폭발이 발생할 가능성을 크게 줄일 수 있다.
본 발명이 해결하고자 하는 과제는, 높은 전압을 발생시킬 수 있는 전고체 전지를 제공하는 것이다.
본 발명이 해결하고자 하는 다른 과제는, 높은 전압을 발생시킬 수 있는 전고체 전지의 제조방법을 제공하는 것이다.
본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른, 전고체 전지는, 복수 개의 단위셀들 및 복수 개의 탄성 패드들이 서로 교번적으로 적층된 스택셀을 포함하되, 상기 탄성 패드는 폴리머층 및 상기 폴리머층에 침투된 금속결정을 포함하고, 상기 탄성 패드는 상기 복수개의 단위셀들을 전기적으로 연결할 수 있다.
본 발명에 따른 전고체 전지는, 높은 전압을 필요로 하는 장치에 사용될 수 있다.

도 1은 본 발명의 실시예들에 따른 단위셀의 구조를 설명하기 위한 단면도이다. 도 1을 참조하면, 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 전고체 전지의 단위셀(CEL)이 예시되어 있다. 단위셀(CEL)은 양극층(100), 양극층(100)과 대향하는 음극층(200), 및 양극층(100)과 음극층(200) 사이에 배치되는 고체 전해질층(300)을 포함할 수 있다. 다만 이에 제한되지 않고, 단위셀(CEL)은 양극층(100)과 고체 전해질층(300) 사이 또는 음극층(200)과 고체 전해질층(300) 사이에 배치된 추가적인 기능성층, 예컨대 접착력 향상층을 더 포함할 수 있다.
양극층(100)은 양극 집전체(110) 및 양극 집전체(110) 상에 배치된 양극 활물질층(120)을 포함할 수 있다. 양극 활물질층(120)은 양극 활물질, 고체 전해질, 도전재 및 바인더를 포함할 수 있다.
양극 집전체(110)는 양극 활물질층(120)이 배치되는 기준면을 제공할 수 있다. 양극 집전체(110)는 판상체(plate) 또는 호일(foil) 형태를 가질 수 있다. 예를 들어, 양극 집전체(110)는 인듐(In), 구리(Cu), 마그네슘(Mg), 스테인레스 스틸, 티타늄(Ti), 철(Fe), 코발트(Co), 니켈(Ni), 아연(Zn), 알루미늄(Al), 게르마늄(Ge), 리튬(Li) 또는 이들의 합금을 포함할 수 있다.
도 1에 도시된 바와 달리, 본 발명의 일 실시예에서 양극 집전체(110)는 생략 가능하다. 도시하지는 않았으나, 양극 집전체(110)와 양극 활물질층(120)과의 결착력을 높이기 위해 양극 집전체(110)와 양극 활물질층(120) 사이에 두께 0.1㎛ 내지 4 ㎛의 카본층이 더 배치될 수도 있다.
양극 활물질은 리튬 이온을 가역적으로 흡장(absorb) 및 방출(desorb)할 수 있는 물질일 수 있다. 예를 들어, 양극 활물질은 리튬코발트산화물(LCO), 리튬니켈산화물(Lithium nickel oxide), 리튬니켈코발트산화물(lithium nickel cobalt oxide), 리튬니켈코발트알루미늄산화물(NCA), 리튬니켈코발트망간산화물(NCM), 리튬망간산화물(lithium manganate), 리튬인산철산화물(lithium iron phosphate) 등의 리튬전이금속산화물, 황화 니켈, 황화구리, 황화 리튬, 산화철, 또는 산화 바나듐(vanadium oxide)을 포함할 수 있으나, 이에 한정되는 것은 아니다. 양극 활물질은 각각 단독이거나, 또는 2종 이상의 혼합물일 수 있다.

양극 활물질은, 예를 들어, 상술한 리튬전이금속산화물 중 층상암염형(layered rock salt type) 구조를 갖는 전이금속산화물의 리튬염을 포함할 수 있다. "층상 암염형 구조"는 예를 들어 입방정 암염형(cubic rock salt type) 구조의 <111> 방향으로 산소 원자층과 금속 원자층이 교대로 규칙적으로 배열하고, 이에 의하여 각각의 원자층이 이 차원 평면을 형성하고 있는 구조이다. "입방정 암염형 구조"는 결정 구조의 일종인 염화나트륨형(NaCl type) 구조를 나타내며, 구체적으로는 양이온 및 음이온 각각이 형성하는 면심 입방 격자(face centered cubic lattice, fcc)가 서로 단위 격자(unit lattice)의 능(ridge)의 1/2 만큼 어긋나 배치된 구조를 나타낸다. 이러한 층상암염형 구조를 갖는 리튬전이금속산화물은, 예를 들어, LiNixCoyAlzO2 (NCA) 또는 LiNixCoyMnzO2 (NCM) (0<x<1,0<y<1, 0<z<1, x+y+z=1) 등의 삼원계 리튬전이금속산화물일 수 있다. 양극 활물질이 층상암염형 구조를 갖는 삼원계 리튬전이금속산화물을 포함하는 경우, 전고체 전지(CEL)의 에너지 밀도가 커지고 열안정성이 향상될 수 있다.
양극 활물질에 포함된 상술한 화합물은 피복층(미도시)에 의해 덮여 있을 수 있다. 양극 활물질은 상술한 화합물과 피복층이 부가된 화합물의 혼합 사용도 가능할 수 있다. 한편, 양극 활물질의 표면에 부가된 피복층은 예를 들어 하기 코팅 원소의 옥사이드, 하이드록사이드, 옥시하이드록사이드, 옥시카보네이트, 또는 하이드록시카보네이트를 포함할 수 있다. 이러한 피복층을 이루는 화합물은 비정질 또는 결정질일 수 있다. 피복층에 포함되는 코팅 원소로는 Mg, Al, Co, K, Na, Ca, Si, Ti, V, Sn, Ge, Ga, B, As, Zr 또는 이들의 혼합물을 포함할 수 있다. 피복층은 예를 들어 Li2O-ZrO2 (LZO) 등을 포함할 수 있다. 피복층 형성 방법은 양극 활물질의 물성에 악영향을 주지 않는 범위 내에서 선택될 수 있다. 피복층 형성 방법은 예를 들어 스프레이 코팅 또는 침지법을 포함할 수 있다.
양극 활물질이 예를 들어 NCA 또는 NCM 등의 삼원계 리튬전이금속산화물로서 니켈(Ni)을 포함하는 경우, 전고체 전지(CEL)의 용량 밀도를 상승시켜 충전 상태에서 양극 활물질의 금속 용출의 감소가 가능할 수 있다. 결과적으로, 전고체 전지(CEL)의 충전 상태에서의 사이클(cycle) 특성이 향상될 수 있다. 한편, “사이클 특성”은 전고체 전지(CEL)의 충/방전에 의하여 전고체 전지(CEL)가 열화되는 정도를 나타내는 특성으로, 사이클 특성이 높은 전고체 전지(CEL)는 충/방전에 의해 전고체 전지(10)가 열화되는 정도가 작고, 사이클 특성이 낮은 전고체 전지(CEL)는 충/방전에 의해 전고체 전지(CEL)가 열화되는 정도가 클 수 있다.
양극 활물질의 형상은, 예를 들어, 구(sphere), 타원체 등의 입자 형상을 포함할 수 있다. 양극 활물질의 입경 및 함량은 특별히 제한되지 않는다.
고체 전해질은 리튬 이온 전도도 특성이 우수한 황화물계 고체 전해질을 포함할 수 있다. 황화물계 고체 전해질은 예를 들어, Li2S-P2S5, Li2S-P2S5-LiX(X는 할로겐 원소), Li2S-P2S5-Li2O, Li2S-P2S5-Li2O-LiI, Li2S-SiS2, Li2S-SiS2-LiI, Li2S-SiS2-LiBr, Li2S-SiS2-LiCl, Li2S-SiS2-B2S3-LiI, Li2S-SiS2-P2S5-LiI, Li2S-B2S3, Li2S-P2S5-ZmSn(m, n은 양의 수, 대문자 “Z”는 Ge, Zn 또는 Ga 중 하나), Li2S-GeS2, Li2S-SiS2-Li3PO4, Li2S-SiS2-LipMOq(p, q는 양의 수, 대문자 “M”은 P, Si, Ge, B, Al, Ga In 중 하나), Li7-xPS6-xClx(0≤x≤2), Li7-xPS6-xBrx(0≤x≤2), 및 Li7-xPS6-xIx(0≤x≤2) 중에서 선택된 적어도 하나를 포함할 수 있다.
황화물계 고체 전해질은, 예를 들어, Li7-xPS6-xClx(0≤x≤2), Li7-xPS6-xBrx(0≤x≤2), 및 Li7-xPS6-xIx(0≤x≤2) 중에서 선택된 하나 이상을 포함하는 아지로다이트-타입(Argyrodite-type)의 화합물일 수 있다. 특히, 황화물계 고체 전해질은 Li6PS5Cl, Li6PS5Br 및 Li6PS5I 중에서 선택된 하나 이상을 포함하는 아지로다이트-타입의 화합물일수 있다. 아지로다이트-타입의 고체 전해질의 밀도는 1.5g/cc 내지 2.0g/cc일 수 있다. 아지로다이트-타입의 고체 전해질이 1.5g/cc 이상의 밀도를 가짐에 의하여 전고체 전지의 내부 저항이 감소하고, 리튬 덴드라이트 형성에 의해 고체 전해질막이 관통(penetration) 및 단락되는 불량을 방지할 수 있다. 고체 전해질의 탄성계수는 예를 들어 15GPa 내지 35Gpa일 수 있다.
양극 활물질층(120)이 포함하는 고체 전해질은 고체 전해질층(300)이 포함하는 고체 전해질에 비하여 중간입도 평균입경(D50)이 작을 수 있다. 예를 들어 양극 활물질층(120)이 포함하는 고체 전해질의 중간입도 평균입경(D50)은, 고체 전해질층(300)이 포함하는 고체 전해질의 중간입도 평균입경(D50)의 90% 이하, 80% 이하, 70% 이하, 60% 이하, 50% 이하, 40% 이하, 30%이하, 또는 20% 이하일 수 있다. 한편, 중간입도 평균입경(D50)은 레이저식 입도 분포계를 사용하여 측정한 메디안(median) 직경일 수 있다.
양극 활물질층(120)은 도전재를 포함할 수 있다. 도전재는 전고체 전지(CEL)에 화학적 변화를 유발하지 않으면서 도전성을 가져, 양극 활물질 및 고체 전해질의 전도성을 높이는 것일 수 있다. 도전재는 탄소계 물질을 포함할 수 있다. 도전재는 예를 들어, 흑연, 카본 블랙, 아세틸렌 블랙, 탄소나노섬유, 및 카본나노튜브 중에서 선택된 하나 이상을 포함할 수 있다.
양극 활물질층(120)은 바인더를 더 포함할 수 있다. 바인더는 양극 활물질층(120)에 포함된 양극 활물질, 고체 전해질, 및 도전재 등을 결합시키고, 양극 집전체(110)와의 결합력을 개선시키기 위한 물질을 포함할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 바인더는 폴리비닐리덴플루오라이드, 스티렌 부타디엔 고무(SBR), 폴리테트라플루오로에틸렌(polytetrafluoroethylene), 폴리불화비닐리덴(polyvinylidenefluoride), 비닐리덴플루오라이드/헥사플루오로프로필렌 코폴리머, 폴리아크릴로니트릴, 또는 폴리메틸메타크릴레이트로를 포함할 수 있다.
양극 활물질, 고체 전해질, 도전재 및 바인더 전체를 100 중량부로 할 때, 양극 활물질층(120)은 85 중량부 내지 92 중량부의 양극 활물질을 포함할 수 있다. 양극 활물질층(120)은 0.5 중량부 내지 1.5 중량부의 바인더를 포함할 수 있다.
양극 활물질층(120) 내에서, 고체 전해질 100 중량부에 대해 도전재는 1 중량부 내지 50 중량부를 가질 수 있다. 고체 전해질 100 중량부에 대해 도전재가 1 중량부 미만일 경우, 양극 활물질층(120)의 전기 전도성이 저하될 수 있다. 고체 전해질 100 중량부에 대해 도전재가 50 중량부 초과일 경우, 도전재 비율이 과도하게 높아 고체 전해질의 표면을 커버하는 피복층이 제대로 형성되지 않을 수 있다.
실시예들에 따르면, 양극 활물질층(120)은 상술한 양극 활물질, 고체 전해질, 도전재, 및 바인더 외에 필러(filler), 코팅제, 분산제 및 이온 전도성 보조제로 이루어진 군에서 선택된 적어도 하나의 첨가제를 더 포함할 수 있다.
고체 전해질층(300)은, 양극층(100) 및 음극층(200) 사이에 배치되며 리튬 이온 전도도 특성이 우수한 황화물계 고체 전해질을 포함할 수 있다. 고체 전해질층(300)이 포함하는 고체 전해질은, 전술한 양극 활물질층(120)에 포함된 고체 전해질에 포함될 수 있는 물질 중 어느 하나와 동일하거나 상이할 수 있다.
일 실시예의 고체 전해질층(300)은 황화물계 고체 전해질을 포함할 수 있다. 황화물계 고체 전해질은, 예를 들어, Li2S, P2S5 등의 출발원료를 용융 급냉법이나 기계적 밀링(mechanical milling) 법 등에 의해 처리하여 제조될 수 있다. 또한, 이러한 처리 후, 열처리를 수행할 수 있다. 고체 전해질은 비정질이거나, 결정질이거나, 이들이 혼합된 상태일 수 있다. 또한, 고체 전해질은 예를 들어 상술한 황화물계 고체 전해질 재료 중 적어도 구성 원소로서 황(S), 인(P) 및 리튬(Li)을 포함하는 것일 수 있다. 예를 들어, 고체 전해질은 Li2S-P2S5을 포함하는 재료일 수 있다. 고체 전해질을 형성하는 황화물계 고체 전해질 재료로 Li2S-P2S5를 포함하는 것을 이용하는 경우, Li2S와 P2S5의 혼합몰비는, 예를 들어, Li2S : P2S5 = 50 : 50 내지 90 : 10 의 범위이다.
황화물계 고체 전해질은 예를 들어 Li7-xPS6-xClx(0≤x≤2), Li7-xPS6-xBrx(0≤x≤2), 및 Li7-xPS6-xIx(0≤x≤2) 중에서 선택된 하나 이상을 포함하는 아지로다이트-타입(Argyrodite-type)의 화합물일 수 있다. 특히, 황화물계 고체 전해질은 Li6PS5Cl, Li6PS5Br 및 Li6PS5I 중에서 선택된 하나 이상을 포함하는 아지로다이트-타입의 화합물일수 있다. 아지로다이트-타입의 고체 전해질의 밀도는 1.5g/cc 내지 2.0g/cc일 수 있다. 아지로다이트-타입의 고체 전해질이 1.5g/cc 이상의 밀도를 가짐에 의하여 전고체 전지의 내부 저항이 감소하고, 리튬 덴드라이트 형성에 의해 고체 전해질막이 관통(penetration) 및 단락되는 불량을 방지할 수 있다. 고체 전해질의 탄성계수는 예를 들어 15GPa 내지 35GPa이다.
고체 전해질층(300)은 바인더를 더 포함할 수 있다. 고체 전해질층(300) 내의 바인더는, 예를 들면, 스티렌 부타디엔 고무(SBR), 폴리 테트라플루오로에틸렌, 폴리불화비닐리덴, 폴리에틸렌 등이나 이들로 한정되지 않는다. 고체 전해질층(300)의 바인더는 양극 활물질층(120)이 포함하는 바인더, 또는 음극 코팅층(220)이 포함하는 바인더와 동일하거나 상이할 수 있다.
음극층(200)은 음극 집전체(210) 및 음극 집전체(210) 상의 음극 코팅층(220)을 포함할 수 있다. 음극 집전체(210)는 음극 코팅층(220)이 배치되는 기준면을 제공할 수 있다. 음극 집전체(210)는 예를 들어 리튬과 반응하지 않는, 즉, 리튬과 합금 및 화합물을 모두 형성하지 않는 재료를 포함할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 음극 집전체(210)는 구리(Cu), 스테인리스 스틸, 티타늄(Ti), 철(Fe), 코발트(Co) 및 니켈(Ni)로 이루어진 군에서 선택된 적어도 하나의 금속을 포함할 수 있다. 음극 집전체(210)의 두께는 1㎛ 내지 20㎛, 보다 구체적으로 5㎛ 내지 15㎛, 보다 구체적으로 7㎛ 내지 10㎛일 수 있다.
음극 집전체(210)는 상술한 금속 중 1 종으로 구성되거나, 2 종 이상의 금속의 합금 또는 피복 재료를 포함할 수 있다. 음극 집전체(210)는, 예를 들면, 판상 또는 호일(foil) 형태를 가질 수 있다. 한편, 일 실시예에서, 음극 집전체(210)는 생략될 수도 있다.
음극 코팅층(220)은, 전고체 전지(CEL)의 충전 시 그와 음극 집전체(210) 사이에서 리튬 금속이 성장되도록 할 수 있다. 음극 코팅층(220)은 리튬 금속의 보호층 역할을 함과 동시에 리튬 덴드라이트(dendrite)의 석출 및 성장을 억제할 수 있다.
음극 코팅층(220)은 금속 및 탄소를 포함할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 음극 코팅층(220)은 금(Au), 백금(Pt), 팔라듐(Pd), 실리콘(Si), 은(Ag), 알루미늄(Al), 비스무스(Bi), 주석(Sn) 및 아연(Zn)으로 이루어진 군에서 선택된 적어도 하나의 금속을 포함할 수 있다. 음극 코팅층(220)은 카본 블랙(carbon black), 아세틸렌 블랙(acetylene black), 퍼니스 블랙(furnace black), 켓젠 블랙(ketjen black), 및 그래핀(graphene)으로 이루어진 군에서 선택된 적어도 하나의 탄소를 포함할 수 있다. 일 실시예에서, 음극 코팅층(220)은 카본 블랙 및 은(Ag)의 혼합물을 포함할 수 있다.
음극 코팅층(220)은 금속 및 탄소 이외에 다른 첨가제를 더 포함할 수 있다. 음극 코팅층(220)은 예를 들어, 바인더, 필러, 코팅제, 분산제, 및 이온 전도성 보조제로 이루어진 군에서 선택된 적어도 하나의 첨가제를 더 포함할 수 있다.
음극 코팅층(220)은 양극 활물질층(120)에 비해 두께가 작을 수 있다. 음극 코팅층(220)의 두께는 예를 들어 양극 활물질층(120) 두께의 50% 이하, 40% 이하, 30% 이하, 20% 이하, 10% 이하, 또는 5% 이하일 수 있다. 음극 코팅층(220)의 두께는 예를 들어 1um 내지 20um, 2um 내지 10um, 또는 3um 내지 7um 일 수 있다. 음극 코팅층(220)의 두께가 지나치게 얇으면, 음극 코팅층(220)과 음극 집전체(210) 사이에 형성되는 리튬 덴드라이트가 음극 코팅층(220)을 붕괴시켜 전고체 전지(CEL)의 사이클 특성이 저하될 수 있다. 음극 코팅층(220)의 두께가 지나치게 증가하면 전고체 전지(CEL)의 에너지 밀도가 저하되고 음극 코팅층(220)에 의한 전고체 전지(CEL)의 내부 저항이 증가하여 전고체 전지(CEL)의 사이클 특성이 저하될 수 있다.
한편, 도시하지는 않았으나, 음극 코팅층(220)과 고체 전해질층(300) 사이에 접착력을 개선시키기 위한 카본층이 더 포함될 수 있다.
본 발명의 실시예들에 따르면, 고체 전해질층(300)은 양극 전해질층(300a) 및 음극 전해질층(300b)을 포함할 수 있다. 양극 전해질층(300a) 및 음극 전해질층(300b)은 적층되어, 하나의 고체 전해질층(300)을 구성할 수 있다. 양극 전해질층(300a)은 양극 활물질층(120)과 접할 수 있고, 음극 전해질층(300b)은 음극 코팅층(220)과 접할 수 있다.
일 예로, 양극 전해질층(300a) 및 음극 전해질층(300b)은 서로 동일한 조성의 고체 전해질을 포함할 수 있다. 다른 예로, 양극 전해질층(300a) 및 음극 전해질층(300b)은 서로 다른 조성의 고체 전해질을 포함할 수 있다.
도 2 내지 도 5는 본 발명의 실시예들에 따른 전고체 전지를 설명하기 위한 단면도이다. 본 발명의 전고체 전지는 스택셀(SCL)을 포함할 수 있다.
도 2를 참조하면, 스택셀(SCL)은 복수 개의 단위셀들(CEL) 및 복수 개의 탄성 패드들이(EPD) 서로 교번적으로 적층된 것일 수 있다. 예를 들어, 스택셀(SCL)은 제1 단위셀(CEL1) 상에 제1 탄성패드(EPD 1)가 적층되고, 상기 제1 탄성패드(EPD1) 상에 제2 단위셀(CEL2)이 적층되고, 상기 제2 단위셀(CEL2) 상에 제2 탄성패드(EPD2)가 적층되고, 상기 제2 탄성패드(EPD2) 상에 제3 단위셀(CEL 3)이 적층된 것일 수 있다.
단위셀들(CEL1, CEL2, CEL3)은 앞서 도 1을 참조하여 설명한 단위셀(CEL)일 수 있다. 예를 들어 단위셀들(CEL1, CEL2, CEL3)은 각각 양극층(100), 양극층(100)과 대향하는 음극층(200), 및 양극층(100)과 음극층(200) 사이에 배치되는 고체 전해질층(300)을 포함할 수 있다.
본 발명의 일 실시예로, 양극층(100)은 양극 집전체(110)를 포함하지 않을 수 있다. 음극층(200)은 음극 집전체(210)를 포함하지 않을 수 있다. 예를 들어, 양극층(100)은 양극 활물질층(120)을 포함하고 양극 집전체(110)를 포함하지 않아, 상기 양극 활물질층(120)은 탄성패드(EPD)와 직접 접촉된 형태일 수 있다.
본 발명의 일 실시예로, 도 3을 참조하면 양극층(100)은 양극 집전체(110)를 포함할 수 있다. 음극층(200)은 음극 집전체(210)를 포함할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 양극층(100)은 양극 집전체(110) 및 양극 활물질층(120)을 포함하고, 상기 양극 집전체(110)는 탄성패드(EPD)와 직접 접촉된 형태일 수 있다.
본 발명의 일 실시예로, 단위셀들(CEL1, CEL2, CEL3)은 개별적으로 양극 집전체(110)를 포함하거나 포함하지 않을 수 있고, 음극 집전체(210)를 포함하거나 포함하지 않을 수 있다.
본 발명의 일 실시예로, 단위셀들(CEL1, CEL2, CEL3)은 서로 전기적으로 연결될 수 있다. 본 발명의 일 실시예로, 단위셀들(CEL1, CEL2, CEL3)은 서로 직렬로 연결될 수 있다. 예를 들어 스택셀(SCL) 내의 양극층들(100) 각각은, 탄성패드(EPD)를 사이에 두고 음극층(200) 상부에 위치할 수 있다. 상기 양극층(100)과 상기 음극층(200)은, 이들 사이의 탄성패드(EPD)를 통해 서로 직렬로 연결될 수 있다.
탄성패드(EPD)는 폴리머층(EPL) 및 폴리머층(EPL) 내에 침투된(infiltrated) 금속결정(IMC)을 포함할 수 있다.
폴리머층(EPL)은 탄성 변형이 가능한 재료들을 포함할 수 있다. 예를 들어 폴리머층(EPL)은 에폭시 수지, 아크릴 수지, 폴리이미드(polyimide) 수지, 폴리아미드(polyamide) 수지, 폴리에스테르 수지, 폴리프로필렌 수지, 폴리스티렌 수지, 폴리염화비닐 수지, 폴리카보네이트 수지, 불소 수지 또는 실리콘 고무를 포함할 수 있다. 폴리머층(EPL)는 단일 재료로 구성될 수 있고, 여러 재료를 조합해서 구성될 수도 있다. 본 발명의 일 실시예로, 폴리머층(EPL)은 폴리에스테르 수지에 해당하는 폴리에틸렌 나프탈레이트(polyethylene naphthalate)를 포함할 수 있다. 또한, 스택셀(SCL)에 포함된 각각의 폴리머층들(EPL)은 동일한 재료를 포함할 수 있고, 서로 다른 재료를 포함할 수도 있다.
폴리머층(EPL)이 탄성 변형이 가능한 재료들을 포함함으로써, 탄성패드(EPD)는 충방전시 단위셀(CEL)의 부피 변화에 따라 발생하는 응력을 완화시킬 수 있다. 이를 통해 충방전이 반복됨에 따라 발생할 수 있는 전해질 층의 균열이나 변형을 억제할 수 있다. 또한, 사이클 특성과 같은 전지 특성의 열화를 억제할 수 있다.
금속결정(IMC)은 금속 입자가 성장하여 형성된 결정으로, 금속결정(IMC)을 구성하는 금속의 종류는 제한되지 않는다. 예를 들어 금속결정(IMC)을 구성하는 금속은 알칼리 금속, 알칼리 토금속, 전이금속, 전이후금속(post-transition metals) 또는 이들의 합금을 포함할 수 있으며, 보다 구체적으로는 구리, 알루미늄, 철, 아연, 은, 팔라듐, 니켈, 티타늄, 금, 백금 또는 이들의 합금을 포함할 수 있다. 금속결정(IMC)은 불순물 입자를 더 포함할 수 있고, 불순물의 종류는 제한되지 않는다. 또한, 금속결정(IMC)의 구조는 제한되지 않는다. 예를 들어 금속결정(IMC)은 비정질(Amorphous), 단결정 또는 다결정일 수 있다.
도 7a는 본 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 탄성패드의 단면을 도시한 것이고, 도 7b는 도 7a의 탄성패드를 압축한 후의 단면을 도시한 것이다.
도 7a 및 도 7b를 참조하면, 금속결정(IMC)은 폴리머층(EPL)의 상면 및 하면 중 적어도 한 면에 접촉되어 있을 수 있다. 본 발명의 일 실시예로, 금속결정(IMC)은 제1 금속결정(IMCF), 제2 금속결정(IMCS) 및 제3 금속결정(IMCT)을 포함할 수 있다. 제1 금속결정(IMCF)은 폴리머층(EPL)의 상면 및 하면 중 어느 한 면과 접촉할 수 있다. 제2 금속결정(IMFS) 폴리머층(EPL)의 상면 및 하면 중 다른 한 면과 접촉할 수 있다. 제3 금속결정(IMCT)은 폴리머층(EPL)의 상면 및 하면에 모두 접촉할 수 있다.
본 발명의 일 실시예로, 제3 금속결정(IMCT)은 폴리머층(EPL)의 상면 및 하면 중 어느 한 면을 침투한 금속 입자들이 결정을 이루고 성장하여 형성된 것일 수 있다. 다시 말하면, 제3 금속결정(IMCT)은 폴리머층(EPL)을 관통할 수 있다.
제3 금속결정(IMCT)은 2개 이상의 금속결정(IMC)이 물리적으로 접촉되어 있는 형태의 금속결정을 포함한다. 본 발명의 일 실시예로, 제3 금속결정(IMCT)은 폴리머층(EPL)의 상면에 접촉되어 있는 제1 금속결정(IMCF)과 하면에 접촉되어 있는 제2 금속결정(IMCS)이 물리적으로 접촉하여 형성된 것일 수 있다.
폴리머층(EPL)의 상면 및 하면 모두에 접촉된 금속결정(IMC)은 전자 이동 통로역할을 수행할 수 있다. 폴리머층(EPL)이 침투된 금속결정(IMC)을 포함함으로써, 탄성패드(EPD)는 그의 상면 및 하면에 각각 배치된 단위셀들(CEL)을 서로 전기적으로 연결할 수 있다. 따라서, 단위셀들(CEL)을 전기적으로 연결시키기 위한 별도의 연결 부재가 불필요하다.
폴리머층(EPL)의 두께는 50μm 내지 300μm일 수 있다. 예를 들어 100μm 내지 150μm, 200μm 내지 300μm, 또는 50μm 내지 100μm일 수 있으며, 탄성재료 및 금속결정의 종류에 따라 적절하게 선택될 수 있다.
도 4를 참조하면, 탄성패드(EPD)는 폴리머층(EPL)의 상면 상의 제1 금속층(MCL1) 및 폴리머층(EPL)의 하면 상의 제2 금속층(MCL2)을 더 포함할 수 있다. 본 발명의 일 실시예로, 제1 및 제2 금속층들(MCL1, MCL2)은 폴리머층(EPL)의 하면 및 상면에 각각 배치된 것일 수 있다. 일 예로, 제1 및 제2 금속층들(MCL1, MCL2)은 금속결정(IMC)을 구성하는 금속 입자와 동일한 금속을 포함할 수 있다. 다른 예로, 제1 및 제2 금속층들(MCL1, MCL2)은 금속결정(IMC)을 구성하는 금속 입자와 다른 금속을 포함할 수도 있다.
제1 및 제2 금속층들(MCL1, MCL2) 각각은 서로 동일한 금속을 포함하거나, 서로 다른 금속을 포함할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 제1 및 제2 금속층들(MCL1, MCL2) 각각은 구리, 알루미늄, 철, 아연, 은, 팔라듐, 니켈, 티타늄, 금, 백금 또는 이들의 합금을 포함할 수 있다.
도 5를 참조하면, 양극층(100)은 양극 집전체(110)를 포함하고, 음극층(200)은 음극 집전체(210)를 포함할 수 있다. 또한, 탄성패드(EPD)는 도 4를 참조하여 설명한 제1 및 제2 금속층들(MCL1, MCL2)을 포함할 수 있다. 즉, 폴리머층(EPL)의 하면에 제1 금속층(MCL1)이 배치되고, 제1 금속층(MCL1) 하면에 양극 집전체(110)가 배치될 수 있다. 또한, 폴리머층(EPL)의 상면에 제2 금속층(MCL2)이 배치되고, 제2 금속층(MCL2) 상면에 음극 집전체(210)가 배치될 수 있다.
예를 들어 양극층(100)은 양극 집전체(110) 및 양극 활물질층(120)을 포함하고, 상기 양극 집전체(110)는 탄성패드(EPD)의 제1 금속층(MCL1)과 직접 접촉된 형태일 수 있다. 또한, 음극층(200)은 음극 집전체(210) 및 음극 코팅층(220)을 포함하고, 상기 음극 집전체(210)는 탄성패드(EPD)의 제2 금속층(MCL2)과 직접 접촉된 형태일 수 있다.
도 6을 참조하면, 스택셀(SCL)은 최상면과 최하면에 완충층(BFL)을 더 포함할 수 있다. 예를 들어 스택셀(SCL)은 최하면에 하면 완충층(BFL1)을 포함하고 최상면에 상면 완충층(BFL2)을 포함할 수 있다.
완충층(BFL)은 폴리머층(EPL)에서 설명한 탄성 변형이 가능한 재료들을 포함할 수 있다. 완충층(BFL)은 충방전시 단위셀들(CEL)의 부피 변화로 인한 스택셀(SCL)의 부피 변화를 감소시킬 수 있고, 결과적으로 스택셀(SCL)에 발생하는 응력을 완화시킬 수 있다.
완충층(BFL)의 두께는 50μm 내지 300μm일 수 있다. 예를 들어 100μm 내지 150μm, 200μm 내지 300μm, 또는 50μm 내지 100μm일 수 있으며, 탄성 재료의 종류 및 탄성패드(EPD)의 두께 등에 따라 적절하게 선택될 수 있다.
도 7a 및 도 7b를 참조하면, 탄성패드 압축에 의해, 폴리머층(EPL)의 상면에 접촉되어 있는 제1 금속결정들(IMFC)과 하면에 접촉되어 있는 제2 금속결정들(IMCS)은 서로 접촉하여 제3 금속결정(IMCT)을 형성할 수 있다. 이를 통해, 탄성패드(EPD)의 전기전도도가 증가할 수 있다.
본 발명의 일 실시예로, 탄성패드(EPD)의 압축은 탄성패드들(EPD) 각각을 가압하여 수행할 수 있다.
본 발명의 일 실시예로, 탄성패드(EPD)의 압축은 스택셀(SCL)을 가압하여 수행할 수 있다. 예를 들어, 모노셀들(CEL)과 탄성패드들(EPD)들이 교번 적층된 스택셀을 가압하여 수행할 수 있다.
본 발명의 일 실시예로, 탄성패드(EPD)는 처음 두께(즉 도 7a에 나타난 두께)의 40 % 내지 90 % 두께를 갖도록 압축된 것일 수 있다. 예를 들어 처음 두께의 50 % 내지 85 %, 60 % 내지 80 %, 또는 65 % 내지 75 % 두께를 갖도록 압축된 것일 수 있다. 상기 범위에서 탄성패드(EPD)의 전기전도도가 효과적으로 증가할 수 있다.
금속결정(IMC)의 결정각(θ)은 90°미만일 수 있고, 보다 구체적으로 금속결정(IMC)의 결정각(θ)은 30° 내지 70°일 수 있다. 예를 들어 금속결정(IMC)의 결정각(θ)은 30° 내지 70°, 30° 내지 60°, 30° 내지 50°, 40° 내지 70°, 40° 내지 60°, 40° 내지 50°, 50° 내지 70° 또는 50° 내지 60일 수 있다.
금속결정(IMC)의 결정각(θ)의 크기가 상기 범위보다 작은 경우, 예를 들어 결정각(θ)의 크기가 30° 미만인 경우, 상면에 접촉된 금속결정(IMC)과 하면에 접촉된 금속결정(IMC) 간의 접촉이 발생하기 어렵다.
금속결정(IMC)의 결정각(θ)의 크기가 상기 범위보다 큰 경우, 예를 들어 결정각(θ)의 크기가 70° 초과인 경우, 금속결정(IMC)이 지지체 역할을 하여 폴리머층(EPL)의 압축을 방해할 수 있다. 이로 인해, 폴리머층(EPL)의 상면 및 하면 모두에 접촉하는 금속결정(IMC)이 적게 형성될 수 있다.
또한, 금속결정(IMC)의 결정각(θ)의 크기가 상기 범위보다 큰 경우, 예를 들어 결정각(θ)의 크기가 70° 초과인 경우, 금속결정(IMC)은 폴리머층(EPL)의 탄성 변형을 방해하여 단위셀(CEL)에 가해지는 응력 완화 효과를 감소시킬 수 있다.
본 명세서에서 “금속결정(IMC)의 결정각(θ)”은 폴리머층(EPL)을 두께방향으로 자른 단면에서, 폴리머층(EPL)의 상면 또는 하면이 금속결정(IMC)의 장축(x)과 이루는 예각을 의미한다. 폴리머층(EPL)의 상면 및 하면과 모두 접촉되어 있는 금속결정의 경우, 금속결정(IMC)의 장축(x)과 폴리머층(EPL)의 상면 또는 하면과 이루는 예각 중 더 작은 각을 “금속결정(IMC)의 결정각(θ)”으로 한다.
본 명세서에서 “금속결정의 장축(x)”은 금속결정 표면의 임의의 두 점을 잇는 선분 중 가장 긴 선분을 의미한다.
예를 들어 도 7a에서와 같이, 제1 금속결정의 결정각(θ1)은 제1 금속결정(IMCF)표면의 임의의 두 점을 잇는 선분 중 가장 긴 선분 x1이 폴리머층(EPL)의 상면과 이루는 각도이며, 제2 금속결정의 결정각(θ2)은 제2 금속결정(IMCS)표면의 임의의 두 점을 잇는 선분 중 가장 긴 선분 x2가 폴리머층(EPL)의 하면과 이루는 각도이다.
도 8은 본 발명의 일 실시예들에 따른 탄성패드의 폴리머층을 설명하기 위한 평면도이다. 도 8을 참조하면, 폴리머층(EPL)의 상면 또는 하면에 형성된 금속결정들(IMC)각각은 아일랜드(island) 형태를 가질 수 있다. 폴리머층(EPL)의 상면 또는 하면에 형성된 금속결정들(IMC)이 차지하는 면적은 폴리머층(EPL)의 상면 또는 하면의 전체 면적에 대하여 20% 이상일 수 있다. 예를 들어 20% 이상, 30% 이상, 40% 이상, 50% 이상, 60% 이상, 70% 이상 또는 80% 이상일 수 있다.
이상, 첨부된 도면들을 참조하여 본 발명의 실시 예들을 설명하였지만, 본 발명은 그 기술적 사상이나 필수적인 특징을 변경하지 않고서 다른 구체적인 형태로 실시될 수도 있다. 그러므로 이상에서 기술한 실시예들에는 모든 면에서 예시적인 것이며 한정적이 아닌 것으로 이해해야 한다.
Claims (13)
- 복수 개의 단위셀들 및 복수 개의 탄성 패드들이 서로 교번적으로 적층된 스택셀을 포함하되,상기 복수 개의 탄성 패드들 각각은 폴리머층 및 상기 폴리머층에 침투된(infiltrated) 금속결정을 포함하고,상기 복수 개의 탄성 패드들은 상기 복수 개의 단위셀들을 서로 전기적으로 연결하는, 전고체 전지.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 금속결정은 제1 금속결정 및 제2 금속결정을 포함하고,제1 금속결정은 상기 폴리머층의 상면 및 하면 중 어느 한 면에 접촉되어 있고,제2 금속결정은 상기 상면 및 하면 중 나머지 한 면에 접촉되어 있는, 전고체 전지.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 금속결정은 제3 금속결정을 포함하고, 제3 금속결정은 상기 폴리머층의 상면 및 하면에 모두 접촉되어 있는, 전고체 전지.
- 제3항에 있어서, 상기 제3 금속결정은 2개 이상의 금속결정이 물리적으로 접촉되어 있는 형태의 금속결정을 포함하는, 전고체 전지.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 금속결정은 결정각(θ)의 크기가 30° 내지 70°인, 전고체 전지.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 단위셀들은 직렬 연결된, 전고체 전지.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 복수 개의 탄성 패드들 각각은 상기 폴리머층의 상면 및 하면 중 적어도 한 면에 배치된 금속층을 더 포함하는, 전고체 전지.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 폴리머층의 두께는 50μm 내지 300μm인, 전고체 전지.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 단위셀은, 양극층, 음극층 및 상기 양극층과 상기 음극층 사이의 고체 전해질층을 포함하는, 전고체 전지.
- 제9항에 있어서, 상기 양극층은 양극 활물질층을 포함하고,상기 음극층은 음극 코팅층을 포함하는, 전고체 전지.
- 제10항에 있어서, 상기 양극층은 양극 집전체를 더 포함하는, 전고체 전지.
- 제10항에 있어서, 상기 음극층은 음극 집전체를 더 포함하는, 전고체 전지.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 스택셀은 상기 스택셀의 최상면 및 최하면에 각각 완충층을 더 포함하는, 전고체 전지.
