- Interstitial cystitis is a syndrome of unknown cause with clinical manifestations of frequent urination, urgency, nocturia, suprapubic and pelvic pain after bladder filling, and relief after urination. This disease brings great pain to patients and seriously reduces their quality of life. Since its etiology and pathogenesis are not clear at present, the diagnosis of interstitial cystitis mainly relies on clinical manifestations and exclusion method. At present, clinical treatment is mostly aimed at controlling symptoms. Although there are many treatment methods, there is no definite cure for drugs and methods. The epidemiological data on interstitial cystitis are extremely limited. However, from the analysis of existing data, interstitial cystitis may be one of the most often ignored and most confusing difficult diseases in urology. At present, oral medications may not be completely effective and carry a high risk of adverse side effects, leading to intolerance and frequent discontinuation of medication. Effective therapies that reduce side effects are needed.
