The atleast one pattern 110 maybe formed on atleast a portion of a light receiving side 118 of the second light deflecting element 108. The device 100 may further comprise a reflector 120 configured to reflect light from the light source 102. The light source 102 may be mounted on a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) 122. The light source 102 emits the light rays that may be reflected by the reflector 120. In an embodiment, the light rays from the light source 102 may directly pass through the first light deflecting element
104 without being reflected by the reflector 120. The path taken by the light rays in the luminous device 100 is explained with reference to FIG. 2.
[0029] Figure 2 shows a path of light rays in first light deflecting element 104 and second light deflecting element 108, according to an embodiment of the present invention. As can be seen, the first light deflecting element 104 is arranged in front of the light source, and the second light deflecting element 108 is arranged in front of the first light deflecting element 104. The second light deflecting element is arranged at distance equal to or less than a radius of the convex element 106 of the first light deflecting element 104. The light source 102 mounted on the PCB 122 emits the light rays. The light emitted from the light source 102 passes through the first light deflecting element 104. The first light deflecting element 104 comprises the plurality of convex elements 106 that are arranged horizontally in front of the light source 102 as shown in FIG.2. The plurality of convex elements 106 of the first light deflecting element 104 is configured to change direction of the light rays emitted from the light source 102. As can be seen from the figure, the direction of light rays exiting the first light deflecting element 104 is different from the light rays entering the first light deflecting element 104. Subsequently, the light rays pass through the second light deflecting element 108. The second light deflecting element 108 comprises the plurality of convex elements 112 that are arranged vertically in front of the first deflecting element 104. The plurality of convex elements 122 of the second light deflecting element 108 enables the second light deflecting element 108 to change direction of the light rays. In an embodiment, the vertical arrangement of the plurality of convex elements 122 ensures that atleast one pattern may be formed on the second light deflecting element 108. The Formation and working of the atleast one pattern is explained in detail with respect to Fig.3.
[0030] Fig. 3a shows atleast one pattern formed on the second light deflecting element 108, according to an embodiment of the present invention. The atleast one pattern 302 may be formed on atleast one portion of the second light deflecting element 108. The atleast one pattern 302 is formed by a coating process that comprises coating a paint on the second light deflecting element 108. In an embodiment, the color of the paint maybe black, red, amber or any other color that ensures opacity. Subsequently, the process comprises removing atleast a portion of the paint from the second light deflecting element 108 by laser to form the transparent portion of a two dimensional images A and B as shown in Figure 3b. As can be seen from Fig. 3a, the atleast one pattern 302 comprises two dimensional images with a plurality of transparent and opaque portions.
The paterns are formed on a light receiving side of the second light deflecting element. The atleast one pattern arranged on atleast one portion of the second light deflecting element 108 ensures that a three dimensional effect is obtained at the output of the second light deflecting element 108. For example, the two dimensional images A and B of figure 3b maybe independently obtained and a pattern maybe formed on the second light deflecting element 108 as shown in figure 3 a. The arrangement of the plurality of convex element 122 of the second light deflecting element 108 ensures the direction of the light rays are changed such that a three dimensional effect is obtained. In an embodiment, the three dimensional effect obtained maybe a combination of two independent two dimensional images A+B as shown in figure3b.
[0031] In an embodiment, the plurality of convex elements 106 of the first light deflecting element 104 and the plurality of convex elements 122 of the second light deflecting element 108 may be a plurality of lenticular lenses. The lenticular lens is adapted to refract the light beam from the light source 102. The light beam may be refracted at different angles by the lenticular lens such that different images are provided as output at different angles. In an example embodiment, the atleast one pattern 302 having a two dimensional images Al, and Bl may be formed by coating process at the light receiving side 118 of the second light deflecting element 106. Particularly, the images Al, and Bl may be formed behind a single convex element of the plurality of convex elements 122 of the second light deflecting element 108. Similarly, the images A2, and B2, A3, and B3 maybe formed behind single convex elements respectively. The light beam entering the first light deflecting element 104 is refracted by the plurality of convex elements 106 at different angles. In an embodiment, the light beam at that exits the first light deflecting element 104 may be orthogonal with respect to the light beam entering the first light deflecting element 104. Subsequently, the refracted light beam passes through the transparent portions of the atleast one pattern 302 for example Al, Bl, A2, B2, and A3, B3 before entering the second light deflecting element 108. The refracted light beam passing through the opaque portions of the atleast one pattern maybe reflected back or absorbed depending on the type of paint coated to form the atleast one pattern 302. Finally, the light beam that exits the atleast one patern 302 may enter the second light deflecting element 108. The light beam entering the plurality of convex elements 122 of the second light deflecting element 108 may be refracted again before exiting the luminous device 100. Thus, different patterns such as Al, Bl, A2, B2, may be visible at different angles when viewed by an observer
from outside. Therefore, a unique lighting effect with different images may be produced by the luminous device 100. The effect is not limited to direct lighting arrangement and may also be obtained by an indirect lighting arrangement as explained in figure 4.
[0032] Figure 4 shows cross sectional view of the luminous device 400 in an indirect lighting arrangement, according to an embodiment of the present invention. The luminous device 400 comprises a light source 402 configured to emit a light beam. The light source 402 is mounted on a PCB 418. The luminous device comprises a reflector 404 that is adapted to receive the light beam from the light source 402. The reflector 404 may reflect the received light beam towards a first light deflecting element 406. The light source 402 mounted on the PCB 418 is arranged such that the light beam emitted from the light source 402 is first reflected by the reflector 404 to reach the first light deflecting element 406. In an embodiment, the PCB 418 may be arranged perpendicular to the first light deflecting element 406. The first light deflecting element 406 may comprise a plurality of convex elements 414. The plurality of convex elements 414 are arranged horizontally in front of the light source 402 such that direction of the light beam is changed by the first light deflecting element 406. The luminous device 400 comprises a second light deflecting element 408 arranged in front of the first light deflecting element 406. The luminous device 400 further comprises atleast one pattern 410 disposed between the first light deflecting element 406 and the second light deflecting element 408. The atleast one pattern 410 maybe formed on atleast one portion of the second light deflecting element 408. The atleast one pattern 410 may comprise a plurality of opaque portions 422 and a plurality of transparent portions 420. The light beam exiting from the first deflecting portion 406 may pass through the plurality of transparent portions 420 of the atleast one pattern 410. Subsequently, the light beam from the atleast one pattern 410 may enter into the second light deflecting portion 408. The second light deflecting element 408 may comprise a plurality of convex elements 416 arranged vertically in front of the first light deflecting element 406. The plurality of convex elements 416 ensures that the direction of the light beam that is received from the first light deflecting element 406 via the atleast one pattern 410 is changed.
Therefore, a unique lighting effect may be obtained as an output from the second light deflecting element 408. In an embodiment, the luminous device 400 further comprises an outer lens 412 arranged in front of the second light deflecting element 408. The light emitted by the second light deflecting portion 408 may pass through the outer lens 412. In addition to transmitting the light beam, the outer lens 412 may also function as a
cover for all other remaining components of the luminous device 400. In an embodiment, the luminous device 400 may be a vehicle lighting apparatus such as a headlamp, a front lighting bar, a rear lamp and the like. The device 400 being arranged such that the light it emits goes out of the vehicle lighting apparatus through the outer lens 412 and the patterns are visible through the outer lens 412.
