Description

LUBRICATING HERBAL JELLY COMPOSITION
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a novel lubricating herbal jelly formulation/composition and to process for the preparation thereof. More particularly, the present invention relates to a glycerin based jelly formulation, which dries off automatically without leaving any vestige.
BACKGROUND AND PRIOR ART OF THE INVENTION
Lubrication is a method that reduces the friction of one or both surfaces that move relative to each other in close proximity. Lubricants prevent or lessen irritation between the surfaces caused due to friction.
Lubricating jelly formulation is a platform technology to provide exceptional stabilizing properties to Active substances. The technology is equally suitable for systemic as well as topical applications.
In topical applications, it satisfies the need to improve the existing skin therapies for those “life style actives” with undesirable oral absorption characteristics. The premise of delivering different actives to the skin or via the skin is weighed down by the barrier function properties of stratum corneum. Short of disrupting the skin by physical means, scientists have resorted to formulation with excipients known to enhance the skin penetration and permeation of drugs.
The jelly is equally suitable to incorporate actives through oral, systemic route. The inbuilt properties of solubilisation, stabilization and systematization of the actives inside the gut to make use of elementary canal and the pH functionality make this technology a state-of-the-art technology in fields of solubilization. OBJECTIVES OF THE INVENTION
The main objective of the present invention is to provide a novel lubricating herbal jelly formulation without leaving any vestige on drying.
One more objective of the present invention is to provide a process for the preparation of said the lubricating herbal jelly formulation which dries off automatically without leaving any vestige.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
Accordingly, to accomplish the objectives, the present invention provides a lubricating herbal jelly formulation which dries off automatically without leaving any vestige.
In an aspect, the present invention provides a lubricating herbal jelly formulation comprising Glycerin as an active in an amount of 10-15% w/w along with pharmaceutical and cosmetic acceptable excipients selected from glidants, diluents, moisturizing agents, chelating agents, viscosifier, gelling agent, wetting agent, lubricating agent, antioxidants, penetration enhancer and the like in suitable amounts.
In another aspect, the present invention provides a lubricating herbal jelly formulation comprising Glycerin as an active in an amount of 10-15% w/w; Propylene glycol in an amount of 5-8%w/w, Hydroxy ethyl cellulose in an amount of 2-4%w/w, Sorbitol in an amount of 3-6%w/w, Propyl gallate in an amount of 0.03-0.06%, w/w Sodium phosphate in an amount of 5-8%w/w, Disodium phosphate in an amount of 6-8%w/w, EDTA in an amount of 0.20-0.30% w/w and water.
In a preferable aspect, the lubricating herbal jelly formulation comprises of Glycerin 12%, Propylene glycol 6%, hydroxy ethyl cellulose 3%, Sorbitol 5%, Propyl gallate 0.05%, Sodium phosphate 6%, Disodium phosphate 7%, EDTA 0.25% and water,. In an aspect of the present invention, the glycerin used in the lubricating herbal jelly formulation is derived out of palm oil, Soy and coconut oil.
In an aspect of the present invention, the lubricating herbal formulation is in the form of clear, translucent jelly.
In yet another aspect, the present invention provides a process for the preparation of the lubricating herbal jelly formulation which dries off automatically without leaving any vestige.
