Abstract

La présente invention concerne un procédé de préparation d'alumine de haute pureté à partir de solides de chlorure d'aluminium hexahydraté. Le procédé comprend la digestion de solides de chlorure d'aluminium hexahydraté comportant une ou plusieurs impuretés inorganiques dans de l'acide chlorhydrique pour produire une liqueur de chlorure d'aluminium, la précipitation de solides de chlorure d'aluminium hexahydraté à partir de la liqueur dans un ou plusieurs étages de cristallisation de sorte qu'au moins certaines des impuretés inorganiques restent dans la liqueur, la séparation des solides de chlorure d'aluminium hexahydraté précipités à partir de la liqueur pour produire un flux de traitement d'acide chlorhydrique comprenant les impuretés inorganiques, le traitement des solides de chlorure d'aluminium hexahydraté séparés pour former de l'alumine de haute pureté, facultativement la diminution de la concentration de chlorure d'hydrogène dans le flux de traitement d'acide chlorhydrique, et l'élimination d'au moins certaines des impuretés inorganiques du flux de traitement d'acide chlorhydrique pour produire un flux de recyclage d'acide chlorhydrique qui est recyclé pour utilisation en tant qu'acide chlorhydrique dans l'étape de digestion.
