Abstract

A reactor for producing hydrogen using ammonia that enables to use pure hydrogen wherever needed in an easy and inexpensive way. The reactor comprising a plasma torch to facilitate splitting the ammonia into hydrogen and nitrogen gas, and a membrane adapted to prevent the hydrogen and nitrogen from recombining. The invention provides a solution that can be transported efficiently up to certain capacities without the need for specialized transport, whether on land or, most notably, at sea. This capability alleviates the dependence on expensive transportation of liquefied hydrocarbons, which subsequently require regasification. Moreover, the invention effectively eliminates pollution and mitigates the greenhouse effect at all stages of the process.
