Definitions
- the present invention relates to a corpectomy cage which is used in spinal surgery, is placed between the vertebrae during the operation, and maintains the distance between the vertebrae at a preferred distance.
- the vertebrae that make up the spine may lose their function and break due to trauma, infection, tumors, and aging, and may apply pressure on the spinal cord causing loss of strength, paralysis and acute pain.
- the patients are operated through anterior or posterior cervical spine.
- anterior cervical spine In case of operations performed through the anterior cervical spine, the region between two vertebrae is emptied and the disc between said vertebrae is removed, and, if necessary, the body (corpus) of the damaged vertebrae is removed, and subsequent to cleaning the region, a cage, into which bone graft is added and which prevents collapse between the vertebrae, is placed.
- the cage structures used in the state of the art are typically sized by taking the distance between the vertebrae of the patient as an average.
- cage structures with adjustable height are of significant importance since the anatomy and vertebral length differ from one patient to another.
- Cage structures can be made of various materials, typically of metal, carbon and poly etheretherketone (PEEK).
- the United States patent document US2010217393 (Al), an application in the state of the art, discloses an intervertebral implant and a fixation method thereof.
- the implant body which is made of a biocompatible material, is pushed between the vertebrae, and then fixed by means of two screws so that the upper and lower vertebrae extend through the holes on the body. Coupling is achieved without using an additional plate, by means of an angular gap provided on the body.
- the International patent document WO2017119862 (Al), an application in the state of the art, discloses a design for a vertebra support implant.
- the upper plate which is extended by being moved on a central threaded part, is fixed to the upper vertebra through the screw holes provided thereon.
- Another object of the present invention is to provide a corpectomy cage whose mobility is reduced by means of the blade inserted into the vertebra.
- a further object of the present invention is to provide a corpectomy cage wherein a screw can be passed through the blade that is inserted into the vertebra.
- Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a corpectomy cage which can be rigidly connected to the vertebra by means of the screw passed through the blade that is inserted into the vertebra.
- a corpectomy cage which is developed to achieve the objects of the present invention and is defined in the first claim and the other claims dependent thereon, preferably comprises a fixed body, a movable body, and a stud member movable through the said movable body in the direction of the vertebra. Where preferred, the said stud member is moved in the direction of the vertebra and fixed to the vertebra.

- the corpectomy cage (1) in one embodiment of the invention which can be placed between two vertebrae, comprises at least one fixed body (2).
- the said fixed body (2) is generally formed in a cylindrical geometric form and has a hole (2.2) in its central part.
- the movable body (3) is placed in the said hole (2.2) and the movable body (3) can move within this hole (2.2) in the direction of the central axis of the fixed body (2).
- the fixed body (2) has a first surface (2.1) and the said first surface
- the fixed body (2) is the surface where the fixed body (2) contacts the vertebra. When the fixed body (2) is positioned between two vertebrae, the first surface (2.1) contacts one of the vertebrae, thereby supporting the positioning of the fixed body (2) between the vertebrae.
- the fixed body (2) is also provided with a locking slot (2.3).
- the said locking slot (2.3) is the place where the locking member (7), which provides locking so that the movable body (3) maintains its current position after the movable body
- the locking member (7) is advanced by being passed through the said locking slot (2.3) and being rotated about its own axis in one direction, and in this way, the locking member (7) compresses the movable body (3) within the hole
- a first screw protrusion (2.4) is formed in the fixed body (2) so that the fixed body (2) can remain in its position after the fixed body
- the said first screw protrusion (2.4) is placed on the vertebra such that it is almost perpendicular to the part of the vertebra in contact with the first surface (2.1) and fits on the other side thereof.
- the corpectomy cage (1) in this embodiment of the invention comprises a movable body (3) in addition to the fixed body (2).
- the said movable body (3) enters into the fixed body (2) when advanced in one direction along the central axis of the fixed body (2) within the hole (2.2) provided in the fixed body (2), and when it is advanced in the other direction, it provides support by contacting the other vertebra of the two vertebrae that the fixed body (2) is not in contact with.
- the movable body (3) enters into the fixed body (2) when advanced in one direction along the central axis of the fixed body (2) within the hole (2.2) provided in the fixed body (2), and when it is advanced in the other direction, it provides support by contacting the other vertebra of the two vertebrae that the fixed body (2) is not in contact with.
- the movable body (3) enters into the fixed body (2) when advanced in one direction along the central axis of the fixed body (2) within the hole (2.2) provided in the fixed body (2), and when it is advanced in the other direction, it provides support by contacting the other vertebra
- the movable body (3) is also provided with a hollow extension (3.3).
- the said hollow extension (3.3) is adapted to encompass the stud member (5) so that the stud member (5) can move in the direction of the vertebra or in the opposite direction along the central axis of the movable body (3).
- the stud member (5) moves within the said hollow extension (3.3).
- the movable body (3) (3.3.1) is the surface which, during the locking of the movable body (3) by means of the locking member (7) after it is brought to the preferred height, creates friction via the locking member (7) and prevents movement of the movable body (3).
- the movable body (3) also has a second screw protrusion (3.4) similar to the fixed body (2). A screw is passed through a second screw hole (3.4.1) provided in the said second screw protrusion (3.4), and in this way, the movable body (3) is enabled to be fixed to the vertebra that is in contact with the second surface (3.1).
- the corpectomy cage (1) in this embodiment of the invention comprises at least one blocking member (4) on both the first surface (2.1) of the fixed body (2) and the second surface (3.1) of the movable body (3).
- the said blocking member (4) enhances attachment thanks to the fact that the fitting tip (4.1) provided in the blocking member (4) is inserted into the vertebrae when the first surface (2.1) and the second surface (3.1) come into contact with the vertebrae.
- the corpectomy cage (1) in this embodiment of the invention comprises a stud member (5) which moves through the movable body (3) in the direction of the vertebra and is inserted into the vertebra and enhances attachment.
