Description

A NIPPLE COVER
DESCRIPTION
This invention relates to a nipple cover and, more especially, this invention relates to a nipple cover comprising a receiving formation for receiving ornamentation, and an adhesive for securing the nipple cover in position.
Nipple covers are known. The known nipple covers comprise a receiving formation for receiving ornamentation, and an adhesive which is on an inner face of the nipple cover and which for adhering the nipple cover to a breast containing a nipple. Some known nipple covers may not adequately protect the nipple from the adhesive and this may be uncomfortable for a wearer.
It is an aim of the present invention to provide an improved nipple cover.
Accordingly, in one non-limiting embodiment of the present invention there is provided a nipple cover comprising a receiving formation for receiving ornamentation, and an adhesive which is on an inner face of the nipple cover and which is for adhering the nipple cover to a breast containing a nipple, wherein the inner face of the nipple cover comprises a nipple-protecting portion which does not contain the adhesive and which thereby protects the nipple from the adhesive, and wherein the receiving formation is positioned in the nipple protecting portion.
The nipple cover of the present invention is advantageous is that the nipple-protecting portion is able to protect the nipple from the adhesive. The protection of the nipple from the adhesive may result in the nipple cover being more comfortable for a user to wear. The protection of the nipple from the adhesive may also help to avoid the adhesive irritating the nipple. The positioning of the receiving formation in the nipple-protecting portion may facilitate manufacture and the production of a nipple cover with a symmetrical appearance.
The nipple cover may include a peel-off protecting sheet layer for protecting the adhesive prior to use of the nipple cover, and for being peeled- off to expose the adhesive for use of the nipple cover. The peel-off protecting sheet layer may comprise a viewing aperture which exposes the nippleprotecting portion, whereby the receiving formation in the nipple-protecting portion is able to be seen. This may advantageously enable users to view the specific construction of the receiving formation prior to purchase of the nipple cover, and thereby choose the receiving formation which the user believes will be most appropriate for receiving the particular type of ornamentation that they wish to use on the nipple cover.
Preferably, the viewing aperture is centrally positioned in the nipple cover. This helps to facilitate the entire nipple cover having an aesthetically pleasing centrally balanced shape. The viewing aperture may however be positioned off-centre if desired.
The receiving formation may comprise a pair of slits which are spaced apart to define a receiving strap which is an integral part of the nipple cover. In this case, the slits may be straight slits whereby the receiving strip is a straight sided receiving strip. Alternatively, the slits may be curved slits or slits with edges which are wavy or of other non-linear shapes. The slits may be spaced apart to define a receiving formation other than a receiving strip, for example a receiving square or a receiving triangle.
The receiving formation may alternatively be an additional member which is secured to the nipple cover by securing means. Any suitable securing means may be employed so that the securing means for securing the additional member may be an adhesive, studs, pins or staples. The additional member may be of any suitable shape so that, for example, the additional member may be a strip additional member or a square additional member.
The nipple cover may be such that the adhesive which is on the inner face of the nipple cover may be applied in any suitable shape or configuration providing the adhesive is able to adhere the nipple cover to the breast containing the nipple. Typically the adhesive will be a continuous layer of adhesive. However, if desired, the adhesive may be in the form of spaced apart pads of adhesive or it may be in the form of a plurality of dots of adhesive.
The nipple cover may be configured to be of any required shape. Thus, for example, the nipple cover may be circular, cross-shaped, star-shaped, heart-shaped, flower-shaped or any other suitable shape.
The nipple cover may be such that it does not comprise a nipple formation. Alternatively, the nipple cover may be such that it comprises a nipple formation. The nipple cover may be made of a wide variety of materials. Thus, for example, the nipple cover may be made of a fabric material. The fabric material may be a natural material such for example as cotton or it may be a synthetic material such for example as nylon. The nipple cover may be made of other plastics materials.
The nipple cover may be manufactured and sold without the ornamentation. Alternatively, the nipple cover may be manufactured and sold with the ornamentation. Any suitable type of ornamentation may be employed so that, for example, the ornamentation may be in any desired configuration such for example as a bar bell, a ring, or a C-shape. The ornamentation may be one or more items which are purely for ornamentation but which are not jewellery and/or the nipple cover may be such that the ornamentation includes one or more items of jewellery, for example precious stones.
Embodiments of the invention will now be described solely by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows a first nipple cover of the present invention;
Figure 2 shows a second nipple cover of the present invention;
Figure 3 shows the nipple cover of Figures 1 and 2 and without a peel- off protecting sheet layer as shown in Figures 1 and 2.
Figure 4 shows an alternative configuration for the receiving formation shown in Figure 3;
Figures 5 and 6 show star-shaped nipple covers with two different types of receiving formations;
Figures 7 and 8 show heart-shaped nipple covers with two different types of receiving formations; Figures 9 and 10 show circular nipple covers having peripheral portions, and with two different types of receiving formations;
Figure 11 is a perspective view of the nipple cover shown in Figure 9, and with the nipple cover being shown as including ornamentation.
Referring to Figure 1 , there is shown a nipple cover 2 comprising a receiving formation 4 for receiving ornamentation (not shown). The nipple cover 2 also comprises an adhesive 6 which is on an inner face 8 of the nipple cover 2 and which is for adhering the nipple cover 2 to a breast (not shown) containing a nipple.
The inner face 8 of the nipple cover 2 comprises a nipple-protecting portion 10 which does not contain the adhesive 6 and which thereby protects the nipple from the adhesive 6. The receiving formation 4 is positioned in the nipple-protecting portion 10.
The nipple cover 2 includes a peel-off protecting sheet 12 for protecting the adhesive 6 prior to use of the nipple cover 2. For use of the nipple cover 2, the peel-off protecting sheet 2 is peeled off to expose the adhesive 6.
The peel-off protecting sheet 12 comprising a viewing aperture 14 which exposes the nippleprotecting portion 10. Thus the receiving formation 4 in the nipple-protecting portion 10 is able to be seen. A user is then able to see the precise type of receiving formation 4 prior to purchase of the nipple cover 2. The user is thereby able to choose a configuration for the receiving formations 4 that is most to their liking. The viewing aperture 14 is centrally positioned in the nipple cover 2.
The receiving formation 4 comprises a pair of slits 16. The slits 16 are spaced apart to define a receiving strip 18 which is formed as an integral part of the nipple cover 2. The slits 16 are straight sided slits whereby the receiving strip 18 is a straight sided receiving strip.
Referring now to Figures 2 - 11 , similar parts as in the nipple cover 2 have been given the same reference numerals for ease of comparison and understanding. In Figure 2, there is shown a nipple cover 20 which is like the nipple cover 2 except that the peel- off protecting sheet 12 does not have the viewing aperture 14.
Figure 3 shows the outer face of the nipple cover 2 of Figure 2;
Figure 4 shows a nipple cover 20 in which the receiving formation 4 is formed of curved sided slits 22 instead of the straight sided slits 24 shown in Figures 1 and 3. Both the nipple covers 2, 20 are circular nipple covers.
Figure 5 shows a star-shaped nipple cover 24 which is star-shaped and which comprises straight sided slits 16.
Figure 6 shows a nipple cover 26 which is star-shaped and which comprises curved sided slits 22.
Figure 7 shows a nipple cover 28 which is heart-shaped and which comprises straight sided slits 16.
Figure 8 shows a nipple cover 30 which is heart-shaped and which comprises curved sided slits 22.
Figure 9 shows a nipple cover 32 which is basically of a circular construction with part circular edge portions 34. The nipple cover 32 may be regarded as a flower shape. The nipple cover 32 has straight sided slits 16.
Figure 10 shows a nipple cover 36 which is of the same general shape as the nipple cover 32 but which has curved sided slits 22.
Figure 11 is a perspective view from the front and one side of the nipple cover 32 shown in Figure 9. In Figure 11 , the nipple cover 32 is shown with the receiving formation 4 in the form of the straight sided slits 22 having been provided with ornamentation 36. The ornamentation 36 is in the form of a bar bell comprising a bar 38 with a ball 40 at each end. The ornamentation 36 may be removably attached to the nipple cover 32 or the ornamentation 36 may be permanently attached to the nipple cover 32.
The nipple covers shown in the Figures are easily able to be produced. They are comfortable to wear with the nipple-protecting portion 10 protecting the nipple from the adhesive 6. The central positioning of the receiving formations 4 enables the nipple cover to look centrally balanced and aesthetically pleasing, both without the ornamentation or with the ornamentation, for example the ornamentation 36. The nipple cover of the present invention is able to use any suitable and appropriate type of adhesive, for example an acrylic adhesive. The adhesive will usually be one which is user compliant and thus does not agitate the skin of the wearer. Many different types of known adhesives may be used which are manufactured and sold for being acceptable for contact with a person's skin. The nipple cover may be made of a wide variety of materials, for example a fabric material such for example as cotton. Thus the nipple cover may be thin and flexible. This may enable the nipple cover to be substantially invisible underneath clothing, apart from the intentional visibility afforded by the nipple-protecting portion 10 and/or the ornamentation.
It is to be appreciated that the embodiments of the invention described above with reference to the accompanying drawings have been given by way of example only and that modifications may be effected. Thus, for example, the nipple cover may be of a shape other than those shown. The receiving formation 4 may be separately produced as a separate item which is then secured in position on the nipple cover for example, by any suitable securing means such as an adhesive or a mechanical securing means. Individual components shown in the drawings are not limited to use in their drawings and they may be used in other drawings and in all aspects of the invention. The invention also extends to the individual components mentioned and/or shown above, taken singly or in any combination.
