Description of Embodiments
In Figures 1 to 9 a cooker (10) is shown. The cooker (10) has a cuboid shaped outer shell (12) having an open top. In this example, the cooker (10) includes an optional supporting structure (13) onto which the outer shell (12) is placed.
The cooker (10) further has a cuboid shaped inner cooking container (14) having an open top. The inner cooking container is shaped and dimensioned to fit inside the outer shell (12) and defines a firepit (not shown) at a bottom thereof.
The cooker (10) has a thermally insulated lid (16) shaped and dimensioned to close the outer shell (12). The lid (16) is connected to the outer shell (12) by means of hinges (18.1) and (18.2). The hinges (18.1) and (18.2) are detachable from each other to permit removal of the thermally insulated lid (16) from the outer shell (12). Furthermore, the thermally insulated lid (16) has double walls (not shown in detail) with an insulating material (not shown) disposed between the double walls.
The fitment of the inner cooking container (14) inside the outer shell (12) results in a void (20) between the walls of the outer shell (12) and the walls of the inner cooking container (14), with thermal insulation (not shown) disposed in the void (20).
The thermal insulation disposed in the void (20) can be selected from sand, an aerogel blanket, a ceramic fibre blanket, or the like, depending on user preference and isolation specification.
The inner cooking container (14) is provided with a flanged shoulder
(14.1) to fit onto a top rim of the outer shell (12). The cooker (10) includes a thermally insulated gasket (not shown) disposed between the top rim of the outer shell (12) and the thermally insulated lid (16).
The cooker (10) includes an electric heating element (50) which is disposed directly below the cooking container (14) around the upward protruding rim (28) in the void (20) and sits atop the thermal insulation layer (not shown) and is attached to the outer shell (12) with a faceplate (51). There is a separation plate (not shown) between the electric heating element (50) and the thermal insulation layer (not shown) separating the two.
The electric heating element (50) can heat the cooking container (14) through thermal conduction and ignite a combustible material (not shown) disposed with the inner cooking container (14). There is a power lead with an adjustable temperature and thermometer (not shown) which plugs into the electric heating element (50).
The cooker (10) includes an access opening (22) at the bottom of the outer shell (12), through which a heating source (26) can supply heat to the cooker (10) and/or ignite a combustible material (not shown) disposed with the inner cooking container (14).
Furthermore, the access opening (22) includes an adjustable closure (24.1), in the form of a rotatable flap, connected to an adjustable handle (24.2), resulting in a non-linear adjustment mechanism, whereby the ventilation in the cooker (10) can be regulated through the opening and closing of the access opening (22). In this example, the heating source (26) comprises a gas burner disposed below the access opening (22) and an electric heating element (50) attached to the outer shell (12) disposed in the void (20) as shown in Figure 7 that is used in combination with the combustible material (not shown) being placed in the firepit. In use, the rotation of the adjustable handle (24.2) in an anti-clockwise direction would slide the rotatable flap (24.1) towards the access opening (22), resulting in either a partial (shown in Figure 3) or full closure (shown in Figure 5) of the access opening (22), depending on the amount of rotation of the first adjustable handle (24.2) and vice versa for an anti-clockwise rotation of the first adjustable handle (24.2).
The access opening (22) at the bottom of the outer shell (12) includes an upward protruding rim (28), best shown in Figure 9, to close the void (20) between the outer shell (12) and the inner cooking container (14).
The cooker (10) includes a flame distribution device (30), shown in Figure 10, shaped and dimensioned to fit on top of the access opening (22), capable of distributing the heating source (26), which in this instance are flames (not shown) from the gas burner within the inner cooking container (14).
The flame distribution device (30) comprises of a disk (30.1) and a mounting arrangement in the form of orthogonally arranged legs (30.2) attached thereto. Each leg (30.2) includes a cut-out (30.2.1) on a distal end thereof, allowing for the flame distribution device (30) to be placed onto an upper rim portion of the access opening (22). It is to be appreciate that the circumference of the disk (30.1) is partially larger than the circumference of the access opening (22).
The thermally insulated lid (16) includes a ventilation opening (16.1) extending through both of the double walls and positioned centrally thereon, operable to regulate dissipation of moisture, heat and gas from within the inner cooking container (14) outwards, through the opening and closing of the ventilation opening (16.1).
In this example, the dissipation of heat through the ventilation opening (16.1) is regulated by means of a slidable lid (16.2), disposed on an outer surface of the thermally insulated lid (16), which slidable lid (16.2) is positioned to cover the entire ventilation opening (16.1) when in a closed configuration, best shown in Figure 1.
The cooker (10) includes a thermometer (not shown) disposed on the thermally insulated lid (16), through which the temperature within the inner cooking container (14) is monitored. The inner cooking container (14) includes subdivisions that are adjustable in either a horizontal direction or a vertical direction to create subdivided cooking zones. The subdivisions include a plurality of pins (14.2) arranged in sets and disposed on opposing inner surfaces (14.3) of the inner cooking container (14). The plurality of pins (14.2) are spaced vertically to provide supports for mounting cooking accessories thereon inside the inner cooking container (14), depending on the foodstuff (not shown) to be prepared within the cooker (10). Each set includes four opposing pins (14.2), two on each opposing side and thereby defines a mounting arrangement.
In this example, the cooking accessories includes grids (40), drip trays (42) and a wok (44), as shown in Figure 11.
It is to be appreciated that, if two grids (40) are horizontally positioned on the mounting arrangement, the interior of the inner cooking container (14) will be divided into two cooking zones, the addition of another grid (40) will result in further subdivisions of respective cooking zones.
The outer shell (12) and the inner cooking container (14) includes attachment means for attaching them together. The attachment means is in the form of a nut and bolt configuration, of which the bolts are insertable through corresponding apertures (not shown) disposed on the outer shell (12) and the inner cooking container (14) in opposite directions, whereby the long nuts are disposed in the void (20) and the bolts fastened to secure the outer shell (12) and inner cooking container (14) together into the common nut. In another embodiment, the outer shell (12) and the inner cooking container (14) can be welded together.
In one example in setting up the cooker (10) for cooking foodstuff therein, a grid (40) is placed on the lowest set of pins (14.2) onto which a combustible material (not shown) is placed, thereby distancing the flames distributed by means of the flame distribution device (30) in a ring of flames from the combustible material and allowing for an even ignition of the combustible material and improving ventilation. An additional grid (40) is placed on any of the remaining set of pins (14.2) onto which the foodstuff is placed, after which the thermally insulated lid (16) is closed and the rotatable flap (24.1) and slidable lid (16.2) are set partially open in order to control the internal temperature and thereby cooking the foodstuff. It is to be appreciated that the gas burner (26) is used to ignite combustible material that is placed inside the cooker (10).
In another example in setting up the cooker (10) for cooking foodstuff therein, a grid (40) is placed on the lowest set of pins (14.2) onto which a combustible material (not shown) is placed, thereby distancing the flames distributed by means of the flame distribution device (30) in a ring of flames from the combustible material and allowing for an even ignition of the combustible material and improving ventilation.
When the combustible material is burnt to coals the foodstuff is placed in the inner cooking container (14), after which the thermally insulated lid (16), the rotatable flap (24.1) and slidable lid (16.2) are set to the closed position in order to retain the heat and moisture within the inner cooking container (14) and thereby cooking the foodstuff. The electric heating element (50) can then be set to the desired temperature maintaining the heat within the inner cooking container (14) until the foodstuffs is cooked. It is to be appreciated that the gas burner (26) is used to ignite combustible material that is placed inside the cooker (10).
In another example in setting up the cooker (10) for cooking foodstuff therein, combustible material (not shown) may be placed in the inner cooking container (14), an additional grid (40) is placed on any of the remaining set of pins (14.2) onto which the foodstuff is placed, after which the thermally insulated lid (16) is closed, the rotatable flap (24.1) is closed and slidable lid (16.2) are set partially open or closed and the electric heating element (50) is then set to the desired temperature whereby the heat generated within the inner cooking container (14) is used ignite any combustible material and to cook the foodstuff.
In another example in setting up the cooker (10) for cooking foodstuff therein, the grid (40) is placed on any one of the set of pins (14.2) onto which the foodstuff is placed. Thereafter, the thermally insulated lid (16) is closed, the rotatable flap (24.1) is fully opened and the slidable lid (16.2) is partially opened and the gas burner (26) is ignited, whereby the heat generated within the inner cooking container (14) is used to cook the foodstuff. In another example in setting up the cooker (10) for cooking foodstuff therein, the grid (40) is placed on any one of the set of pins (14.2) onto which the foodstuff is placed. Thereafter, the thermally insulated lid (16) is closed, the rotatable flap (24.1) is fully closed and the slidable lid (16.2) is partially opened or closed and the electric heating element (50) is then set to the desired temperature whereby the heat generated within the inner cooking container (14) is used to cook the foodstuff.
Figure 12 shows a lid (32) which can be inserted into the access opening (22), to cover the gas burner (26) to prevent ash to fall into the burner openings. The lid (32) comprises of a disk (32.1) shaped and dimensioned to fit snug within the access opening (22) and three pegs (32.2) protruding from a bottom surface (32.3) thereof, also shaped and dimensioned to fit into matched holes (not shown) on the gas burner's (26) head, in order to prevent the lid (32) to pass through the access opening (22). Furthermore, the lid (32) includes a handle (32.4) in the form of peg protruding from a top surface (32.5) thereof, used for manoeuvring of the lid (32).
Figure 13 shows a table (46) which can be inserted into the handle on one or both sides of the oven. The table comprises of the table top (47), the table frame (48) and the table mounting block (49). The table mounting block (49) is shaped and dimensioned to fit snugly within the handles on the sides of the cooker (10).
In use, the gas burner (26) can be ignited at the end of the cooking process to work together with the combustible material (not shown) to rapidly increase the temperature and crisp the food stuffs.
The gas burner (26) can be ignited and used to quickly heat the inner cooking container (14) to a desired temperature and then the electric heating element (50) can maintain the temperature.
The inventor believes that the invention provides a new oven that will be of particular use in cooking traditional dishes such as meat in a portable oven that avoids the necessity to prepare a firepit before cooking. The invention further improves cooking efficiency and adjustability of the cooking environment.
