Abstract

Compositions and methods for producing soluble phosphorus through solulizing a phosphorus source, i.e., a rock phosphate such as calcium phosphate, and/or for improving at least one agronomic trait of interest in a desirable plant are provided. Such compositions and methods comprise a population of phosphorus solubilizing agents and a phosphorus source (i.e., a rock phosphate). The rock phosphate solubilizing agents can be applied to a soil, an area of cultivation or a desirable vegetation directly, or as an additive to a fertilizer, for example, a rock phosphate. Methods and compositions for improving crop growth and yield are also provided.
