Description
DAMPING ELEMENT DEVELOPED FOR MOVABLE FURNITURE
TECHNICAL FIELD
The invention relates to a fluid flow damping element that creates damping by being attached to hinges, rails or other movable furniture equipment that provides movement in furniture. In particular, the invention relates to a damping element that provides the venting of the air trapped in it during its first assembly via at least one air vent element on its body, and an assembly method thereof.
STATE OF THE ART
The damping effect on the movable furniture parts during the opening and closing movement is made by the damping element provided in the hinges or other movable furniture equipments. The damping element provides the damping effect that will occur on the piece of furniture by pushing the piston rod into the body or pulling the piston rod out of the body while the furniture is closing.
The existing damping element used in furnitures generally comprises a piston rod, a piston being movable with the piston rod, a body containing fluid with a certain viscous value in its inner chamber, and sealing elements. In general, the damping elements work, by pulling the piston rod out of the body or pushing it inside the body, to obtain damping force while the fluid flows through the piston through a flow channel during the movement of the piston connected to the piston rod.
There are two graphs that create the sound and damping values, showing that the damping element attached to the furniture is working efficiently. Damping element manufacturers have developed many damping element configurations in order to optimize these graphs and there are many patent applications in the literature. The 1st factor affecting the mentioned sound and damping graph is to efficiently design the channels on the piston through which the fluid passes. Because the air in the fluid that
will pass through the channels causes cavitation and affects the sound and damping values negatively. The 2nd factor affecting the sound and damping graph is the viscosity values of the fluid to be used. The 3rd factor that affects the aforementioned sound and damping values negatively is the air that remains inside the body while the damping element/s are mounted. If any air remains, the piston operation will not be smooth and low damping forces will occur. At the same time, the remaining air will remain in the fluid and cause cavitation which leads the damping element to work loudly. For this reason, in the current applications, while the damping element is first installed, the air is vacuumed from the inside by performing the assembly operations under vacuum environment. However, it is known that the assembly process in the vacuum environment is technically difficult and costly.
The damping element, which is the subject of the invention, performs the venting of said compressed air during its first assembly, with at least one air vent element provided on the body of the damping element. Thus, the production costs of the damping element have been reduced and the need for a technically difficult vacuum environment has been eliminated. The patent document with the publication no EP2425080A1 relates to the furniture damping element for hinges. The application mentions the groove (20) and the axial through hole (11) on the piston and an alternative other piston configuration to solve the cavitation problem. Even if a solution is brought to the cavitation problem with the application, it does not mention any element on the body that provides air venting as in our invention.
The patent document with the publication no EP3084107A1 is about a retraction and a damping unit in drawers that are movable furniture. Said unit includes accumulator and shock absorber and is provided on rails. In the application, there is no mention of any element that can provide air venting, which is the subject of our invention.
THE AIM OF THE INVENTION
The aim of the invention is to develop a damping element that vents the air contained in the damping element during the assembly of the damping element with an air venting element designed on the body.
Another aim of the invention is to develop a damping element that eliminates the need for a vacuum environment in production process.
Another aim of the invention is to develop a damping element assembly method that does not require a vacuum environment in production.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The invention relates to a damping element that provides damping when closing furniture cabinets or drawers. Said damping element includes at least one air venting element that allows air to be vented during assembly.
The damping element generally comprises a body with an open end and a closed end, containing fluid in its inner chamber, the piston rod that can move along the longitudinal axis in the said body, the piston assembly and the pressure balancing device on the said piston rod, and the cover arranged to close the open end.
The general working principle of the damping element is pushing the piston rod into the body along the longitudinal axis thereof or pulling it out of the body, while closing movement of the furniture piece. The piston assembly moves with the piston rod. With the movement of the piston assembly, fluid flow occurs within the damping element. The damping effect is provided by the effect of the pressure created by the liquid flow. In order to balance the said pressure formed in the body, a pressure balancing device is provided inside the damping element.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, said pressure balancing device includes a gasket and a limiting element that limits the movement of said gasket in the closed end direction while said piston rod is pulled out of the body.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, said pressure balancing device includes a piston thrust washer and a limiting element that limits the movement of said piston thrust washer in the closed end direction while said piston rod is pulled out of the body.
The operation of the damping element and the resulting damping effect are negatively affected by the air that will remain inside the body during assembly. With the air
venting element provided in the damping element of the invention, the air trapped inside the body is vented.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the air venting element is provided on the body between the open end and a barrier section of the pressure balancing device.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the air venting element is in the form of a hole on the body.
In another preferred embodiment of the invention, the air venting element is in the form of a channel on the inner wall of the body, preferably arranged with a depth.
The venting of the air trapped in the body of the damping element, that is the subject of the invention, is carried out during the assembly of the elements it contains. While mounting said damping element, the piston assembly, the pressure balance assembly and the cover are mounted on the piston rod. Then, the liquid fluid, which has undergone vacuuming, is injected into the inner chamber of the body. After the fluid injection process, the piston rod, which has the above mentioned elements, is pushed into the body. With the pushing process, the air trapped inside the body is vented by means of the air venting element in the body.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The invention relates to a damping element (1) that comprises at least one air venting element (1.9) ensuring the venting of the air in the system during the mounting which
affects the sound and damping values of the damping element (1) used in cabinets or drawers, which are movable furniture parts.
The damping element (1), which is the subject of the invention and whose perspective view is given in Figure 1, includes a body (1.4), and an air venting element (1.9) in the form of at least one hole (1.9.1) on the body (1.4). At the same time, as shown in Figure 2, the damping element (1) contains at least one channel (1.9.2), preferably with a depth on the body inner wall (1.4.1), arranged as an alternative to the hole
(1.9.1) and provides the same task as the hole (1.9.1).
As shown in Figure 3 and Figure 4, the damping element (1) generally comprises a body (1.4) surrounding the liquid fluid, a piston rod (1.6) being movable back and forth along a longitudinal axis (X) within the body (1.4), a piston assembly (1.7) dividing the body inner chamber (1.5) into two sections, and elements of a pressure balance assembly (1.8) regulating the fluid pressure balance in the body inner chamber (1.5) and providing sealing.
Said body (1.4) preferably has a cylindrical form, comprising a closed end (1.1) and an open end (1.2) closed with a cover (1.3), and can be made of metal or plastic material. The damping element (1) provides the damping effect with a liquid fluid in the body inner chamber (1.5). The liquid fluid may preferably be oil. Said cover (1.3) closes the open end (1.2) of the body (1.4) in order to prevent the fluid from leaking out.
Said piston rod (1.6) includes a piston assembly (1.7) arranged in a region close to one end in the body inner chamber (1.5). Said piston assembly (1.7) moves along the longitudinal axis (X) by means of the piston rod (1.6). Said piston assembly (1.7) divides said body inner chamber (1.5) into two chambers, as a first chamber (1.5.1) and a second chamber (1.5.2), on the closed end (1.1) side and the open end (1.2) side, respectively. With the movement of the piston rod (1.6) along the longitudinal axis (X), liquid fluid passes between the first chamber (1.5.1) and the second chamber
(1.5.2) through the piston assembly (1.7).
A pressure balance device (1.8) is provided at the other end of the piston rod (1.6) inside the body (1.4) in order to establish the fluid pressure balance caused by the
liquid flow in the inner chamber (1.5) of the body (1.4) during the abovementioned movement and to prevent the liquid from leaking out of the body (1.4). Said pressure balance assembly (1.8) has a barrier section (1.8.1). Said barrier section (1.8.1) prevents the liquid in the inner chamber (1.5) from leaking into the cover (1.3) side. Said pressure balance assembly (1.8) may preferably comprises a gasket (1.8.2), a limiting element (1.8.3) and a piston thrust washer (1.8.4). Said limiting element (1.8.3) can preferably be arranged on the inner wall (1.4.1) of the body (1.4). Said limiting element (1.8.3) limits the movement of said gasket (1.8.2) and said piston thrust washer (1.8.4) in the direction of the second chamber (1.5.2) while the piston rod (1.6) is pulled out of the body (1.4).
The damping element (1) shown in Figure 3 and Figure 4, together with the closing movement of the furniture piece, provides a damping effect on the closing of the furniture piece by pulling the piston rod (1.6) out of the body (1.4) or pushing it into the body (1.4).
As the piston assembly (1.7) moves in the body (1.4) due to the operation of the damping element (1), a damping force is created by the fluid passage between the first chamber (1.5.1) and the second chamber (1.5.2). During the operation of the damping element (1), sound and damping graphics are obtained. The flow channel configurations on the piston (1.7) and the viscosity values of the fluid are important for the said sound graph and damping force graph to give the best result. In addition, another factor that ensures the best damping value is that there is no air left in the inner chamber (1.5) of the body (1.4) while assembling the elements that make up the damping element (1). Because the air that may remain in the body (1.4) causes cavitation in the fluid. Thus, the sound graph of the damping element is negatively affected and the damping force is not formed in the best way. For this reason, in current damping element production applications, the abovementioned body (1.4), piston rod (1.6), piston assembly (1.7), pressure balance assembly (1.8) are assembled in a vacuum environment. However, assembly in a vacuum environment is technically difficult and the costs of creating this environment are high.
The problem of air remaining in the damping element (1), which is the subject of the invention, is solved with a damping element (1) that includes at least one air venting
element (1.9) developed on the body (1.4). In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the said air venting element (1.9) has the form of a hole (1.9.1), the detail image of which is given in figure la. In a different embodiment of the invention, the said air venting element (1.9) has the form of a channel (1.9.2), the detail image of which is given in figure 2a.
With the air venting element (1.9) that is the subject of the invention, the air trapped in the damping element (1) is vented during assembly, and the air venting problem is solved with a simpler and less costly configuration of the subject invention compared to vacuum environment embodiments.
In a preferred embodiment of the invention, said air venting element (1.9) can be arranged to remain between said barrier section (1.8.1) and open end (1.2). Said air venting element (1.9) is preferably arranged as at least one on the body.
The invention also relates to the assembly method of the said damping element (1). While the damping element (1) that is the subject of the invention is being assembled, the piston assembly (1.7), the pressure balance assembly (1.8) and the cover (1.3) are mounted on the piston rod (1.6). Then, the liquid fluid, which has undergone vacuuming, is injected into the inner chamber (1.5) of the body (1.4) in order not to contain air in the system. After the fluid injection process, the piston rod (1.6) containing the abovementioned elements is attached from the open end (1.2) of the body (1.4) and pushed into the inner chamber (1.5) of the body (1.4). During the insertion process, the piston rod (1.6) is pushed from the open end (1.2) of the body (1.4) towards the closed end (1.1). With the pushing process, the compressed air inside the body is vented by means of the air venting element (1.9). By this way, it is ensured that no air remains inside the damping element (1) during assembly.
With the damping element (1) that is the subject of the invention, the need for a technically difficult and costly vacuum environment used in existing damping element production process has been eliminated. Thus, the air venting problem, which has an effect on the sound and damping graph, is solved during the assembly of the damping element (1).
