Description

DESCRIPTION
MANAGEMEMENT METHOD AND VEHICLE
Technical field
This invention relates to a method, specifically a method for managing favourite functions and configurations in a vehicle and to a vehicle which integrates a system for managing such functions and configurations.
Background art
Known in the prior art are vehicles provided with interfaces, specifically screens, which allow numerous categories of functions and information, including the infotainment functions, to be displayed by the driver or by the passengers of the vehicle.
These interfaces also allow numerous categories of functions and information, including the infotainment functions of the vehicle, to be managed.
In many cases, the main interface of the vehicle comprises a touch screen. The screen is usually centrally mounted on the vehicle dashboard and integrates and/or replaces traditional controls, such as knobs or levers.
The screen can be used to manage a variety of different multimedia contents such as, for example, the stereo system, the satellite navigator, applications/widgets and everything regarding connectivity with smartphones or tablets, but also different configurations in the vehicle interior such as temperature, seat tilt and so on.
In prior art solutions, the user can search all the different functions for the content of interest and modify the settings to obtain favourite vehicle configurations.
Depending on the situation, the user can, for example, change the temperature in different parts of the vehicle, select a favourite radio station or open the phone contact list and search for a particular contact.
To modify these aspects and choose the favourite settings on that occasion, the user generally has to select the function of interest and confirm the selection with one or more actions through different menus using the touch screen or physical buttons located on the main dash tunnel of the vehicle.
These operations, most of which can be carried out while the vehicle is moving, can make managing the functions and configurations of the vehicle particularly complicated and confusing.
In addition, when the vehicle is started, many of the functions and/or configurations previously selected for certain situations or needs are lost and the user must repeat the process of choosing/selecting from scratch. There is therefore a need to simplify the modes of managing the favourite functions and configurations of the vehicle.
Aim of the invention
The aim of this disclosure is at least to meet the above-mentioned need by providing a particularly simple method for managing favourite functions and configurations in a vehicle and a vehicle to integrate a system for managing the favourite functions and configurations.
At least said aim is achieved by the invention as characterized in the independent claims.
The dependent claims correspond to possible different embodiments of the invention.
According to an aspect of it, this disclosure relates to a method for managing favourite functions and configurations in a vehicle.
The vehicle may be, for example, an automobile, a motorbike or other kind of vehicle.
The method comprises:
- selecting, on a touch screen of the vehicle, an animation comprising at least one information item relating to a function or configuration of the vehicle,
- saving the information item or a shortcut to the information item to a favourites menu;
- displaying a linking icon linked to the information item or to the shortcut in the favourites menu; - providing a linking icon linked to the favourites menu on the touch screen;
- on the touch screen, selecting the linking icon linked to the favourites menu so as to display on the touch screen the favourites menu comprising at least the linking icon linked to the information item or to the shortcut.
The method comprises at least one step of:
- saving the information item to a favourites menu via the favourites menu icon displayed on the touch screen,
- selecting the favourites menu icon on the touch screen and showing on the touch screen at least one icon associated with the information item saved.
The term "animation" is used in this disclosure to mean both an animated image and a static image.
A user, who may, for example, be the vehicle driver may touch the animation on the touch screen which acts as user interface.
The animation may, for example, relate to a radio station or a phone contact or other item.
In other examples, the animation comprises a symbol connected with a vehicle function or configuration.
The information item associated with the animation may be, for example, a favourite radio station, the phone number of a particular contact, the seat tilt settings, the temperature in different parts of the vehicle and so on.
Preferably, the icon associated with the information item saved represents the animation selected and the vehicle function or configuration related thereto.
By "represents" is meant that the icon comprises an image or a symbol that evokes the function or configuration.
For example, if the information item saved relates to the radio function, the icon that appears on the favourites menu may comprise the image of a radio antenna. The term "functions" is used to refer to the multiple multimedia (and other) features available in the vehicle, such as, for example, the audio functions, the radio, the connectivity applications, the phone contact list, the satellite navigator and so on.
The term "vehicle configurations" is used to refer, for example, to the settings regarding seat tilt, temperature of seats and/or steering wheel, adjustment of temperature in different parts of the vehicle and so on.
The method may comprise a step of providing a vehicle comprising at least one dashboard and the touch screen mounted centrally on the dashboard. The term "dashboard" is used to denote the set of components situated at the front of the vehicle interior, facing the driver and the passengers, and in some cases in what is known as the "dash tunnel", to perform a variety of functions, for example, for aesthetic, structural, safety and information purposes.
The step of selecting an animation from the touch screen may comprise a step of touching the touch screen to select the animation.
In other embodiments, the step of selecting the animation may be carried out by pressing and holding the animation on the screen or by double tapping the animation.
Preferably, the step of selecting the animation comprises a step of touching the animation with two fingers to select the animation.
The step of saving the information item may comprise a step of dragging the selected animation in the direction of the favourites menu by touching the touch screen.
The step of saving the information item may comprise a step of dragging the selected animation in the direction of the favourites menu by touching the animation with two fingers.
In other embodiments, the step of saving the animation may be carried out by pressing and holding the favourites menu icon on the screen or by double tapping the favourites menu icon. In a preferred example, the favourites menu icon may be situated at a fixed position on the screen.
In another embodiment, the favourites menu icon may be called up, that is, may appear on the screen, when the user drags the animation.
The method may comprise a step, during the step of dragging, of reducing the selected animation to an image or icon associated with the animation and representing the animation itself.
Advantageously, saving the information that can be displayed on the touch screen in the form of icons in a favourites menu allows creating shortcuts which make it easier for the user to find the functions and vehicle configurations through the user interface constituted by the touch screen.
Advantageously, creating shortcuts allows the user to set favourite functions and configurations instantly, whenever needed, without having to search through different menus.
Advantageously, the shortcuts which can be made available through the favourites menu make it particularly easy to manage favourite vehicle functions and configurations.
The method may comprise a step of highlighting a portion of the selected animation.
The term "highlighting" is used to mean that the highlighted portion is illuminated or otherwise flagged in order to draw attention to it.
Preferably, the highlighted portion of the animation is the outer portion of the animation such as, for example, the edge of the animation.
Advantageously, highlighting a portion of the selected animation tells the user whether the selected animation is associated with functions and/or configurations which can be saved in the favourites menu.
The method comprises a step of showing a message on the touch screen indicating that the first information item has been saved to the favourites menu.
The message may be, for example, a text message or a symbol telling the user that the save has been completed. Advantageously, showing a save completed message allows the user to know whether the function or configuration concerned has been saved and recorded in the favourites menu.
Preferably, the icon is associated with a string, that is, a series of alphanumeric characters helping the user to recognize both the saved information item and the related function or configuration.
The method may comprise:
- touching the touch screen and holding down the icon to show on the touch screen a popup edit menu comprising at least a first symbol,
- selecting the first symbol from the popup edit menu to modify the string of the icon,
- showing a virtual keyboard on the touch screen to allow the user to type in a new string.
Advantageously, editing the string allows the user to identify both the saved information item and the selected function or configuration, especially if the user has saved a number of different functions and/or configurations.
For example, the user may wish to save two or more configurations for adjusting the air conditioning in the vehicle interior according to the time of day.
After saving two distinct air conditioning configurations, the user will have, in the favourites menu, two corresponding icons with which two strings, namely "air conditioning 1" and "air conditioning 2' are associated.
At this point, the user may decide to edit and customize the two strings by typing two new strings, for example, “air conditioning day” and “air conditioning night’, respectively, on the virtual keyboard.
The first symbol may comprise, for example, a drawing of a pencil and/or an alphabetic code.
The method may comprise a step of:
- touching the touch screen and holding down the icon to show on the touch screen a popup edit menu comprising a second symbol,
- selecting the second symbol from the popup edit menu to remove the icon from the favourites menu.
Advantageously, selecting the second symbol from the popup edit menu to remove the icon from the favourites menu allows the user to discard saved information which is no longer of interest.
The method may comprise a step of:
- touching the touch screen and holding down the icon to show on the touch screen a popup edit menu comprising a third symbol,
- selecting the third symbol from the popup edit menu to modify a position of the icon in the favourites menu,
- moving the icon by touching and dragging it to a new position on the touch screen.
Advantageously, moving the icon by touching and dragging it to a new position on the touch screen allows the user to arrange the contents of the favourites menu according to personal requirements.
The popup menu which appears when the user holds the icon on the touch screen in the favourites menu may therefore include the first symbol and/or the second symbol and/or the third symbol.
Preferably, the popup edit menu includes all three symbols and the user can rename the saved icons, move them around in the menu and remove them when they are no longer of interest.
The method may comprise a step of:
- on the touch screen, selecting a second animation comprising a second information item relating to a second vehicle function or configuration,
- dragging the second animation on the touch screen towards the favourites menu to save the second information item in the favourites menu,
- selecting the favourites menu icon and showing the first icon and a second icon associated with the second saved information item.
It is thus possible to save different functions and/or configurations in the form of icons in the favourites menu, which the user can use as shortcuts. According to an aspect of it, this disclosure relates to a vehicle.
The vehicle may be, for example, an automobile, a motorbike or other kind of vehicle.
The vehicle essentially comprises at least a dashboard, a touch screen (which acts as user interface) positioned centrally on the dashboard, and a memory unit in communication with the touch screen.
The touch screen comprises at least one linking icon linked to a favourites menu selectable by a user and being configured to allow the user to select at least one animation comprising at least one information item relating to a function or configuration of the vehicle.
The memory unit is configured to save the information item or a shortcut to the information item, and the touch screen, following the user's selection of the linking icon linked to the favourites menu, is configured to show a linking icon associated with the information item.
The memory unit is configured to save an information item as a function of the selected animation.
The favourites menu icon is selectable by the user, and the touch screen is configured, following a selection made by the user, to show an icon as a function of the information item.
Preferably, the icon represents the selected animation (relating to the vehicle function or configuration).
Advantageously, saving the information in the form of icons in a favourites menu via the memory unit allows creating shortcuts which make it easier for the user to find the functions and vehicle configurations through the user interface constituted by the touch screen.
Advantageously, the favourites menu allows creating shortcuts which make it particularly easy to manage favourite vehicle functions and configurations. Advantageously, creating shortcuts allows the user to set favourite functions and configurations instantly, whenever needed, without having to search through different menus.
The touch screen is configured to allow the user to drag the selected animation on the touch screen itself towards the favourites menu icon.
The touch screen is configured to highlight a portion of the selected animation.
Advantageously, highlighting a portion of the selected animation tells the user whether the selected animation is associated with functions and/or configurations which can be saved in the favourites menu.
The screen may be configured to show a save completed message indicating that the information item has been saved to the favourites menu. Advantageously, showing a save completed message allows the user to know whether the function or configuration concerned has been saved and recorded in the favourites menu.
Preferably, a string constituted by an alphanumeric sequence is associated with the icon to characterize the icon.
The touch screen is configured to allow the user to modify the string.
More specifically, the touch screen is configured to show a popup edit menu comprising at least a first symbol selectable by the user and to show a virtual keyboard on screen to allow the user to type in a new string.
Advantageously, editing the string allows the user to identify both the saved information item and the selected function or configuration, especially if the user has saved a number of different functions and/or configurations.
The touch screen is configured to allow the user to remove the icon from the favourites menu.
The touch screen is configured to show a popup edit menu comprising a second symbol, selectable by the user to remove the icon from the favourites menu.
Advantageously, selecting the second symbol from the popup edit menu to remove the icon from the favourites menu allows the user to discard saved information which is no longer of interest.
The touch screen is configured to allow the user to modify at least a position of the icon in the favourites menu.
More specifically, the touch screen is configured to show a popup edit menu comprising a third symbol, which the user can select to modify the position of the icon in the favourites menu.
Advantageously, moving the icon by touching and dragging it to a new position on the touch screen allows the user to arrange the contents of the favourites menu according to personal requirements.
The touch screen is configured to allow the user to select a second animation relating to a second vehicle function or configuration.
The touch screen is configured to allow the user to drag the selected second animation on the touch screen itself towards the favourites menu icon.
The memory unit is configured to save a second information item as a function of the second animation dragged on the touch screen towards the favourites menu icon.
The touch screen, following a selection made by the user, is configured to show the first icon and a second icon as a function of the second information item.
Brief description of the drawings
The main features of the invention are more apparent from the detailed description which follows, with reference to the accompanying drawings which illustrate a preferred embodiment of the invention purely by way of non-limiting example, and in which:
- Figure 1 shows a dashboard of a vehicle according to the disclosure, in a schematic front view;
- Figures 2 to 7C are schematic front views of a touch screen in a plurality of configurations.
Detailed description of preferred embodiments of the invention
With reference to the accompanying drawings, in particular Figure 1 , the numeral 1 denotes a vehicle.
The term "vehicle" is used, by way of non-limiting example, to mean an automobile, which is illustrated and described only insofar as concerns the parts relevant to the invention.
The vehicle 1 essentially comprises a steering wheel 8, a dashboard 2, a touch screen 3 positioned centrally on the dashboard 2 and a memory unit 4 in communication with the touch screen 3.
Preferably, the memory unit 4 is integrated in a processing unit.
The screen 3, as illustrated in Figure 1 , may have a home screen H, which is the starting point for accessing the main functions, including the multimedia functions, and from where it is possible to navigate in order to set the different configurations of the vehicle 1 .
The touch screen 3 has at least one user-selectable icon 5 for accessing a favourites menu M.
The screen 3 may, for example, be a resistive or a capacitive screen.
The screen 3 is configured to allow the user to select at least one animation
10 relating to a function F1 or a configuration C1 of the vehicle 1 .
In other words, the screen 3 acts as a user interface.
By "functions F1" is meant the multiple multimedia and other functions available in the vehicle, such as, for example, the audio functions, the radio, the connectivity applications, the phone contact list, and so on.
By "configurations C1" is meant, for example, the settings regarding seat tilt, temperature of the seats and/or of the steering wheel 8, adjustment of temperature in different parts of the interior of the vehicle 1 and others.
The icon 5, used to access the menu M, is visible and selectable by the user from the home screen H, and preferably remains visible in all the screens of the interface.
In an embodiment, the screen 3 is configured to highlight at least one portion 10A of the selected image 10.
Preferably, the highlighted portion 10A is an outer portion of the animation such as, for example, the edge or boundary of the animation 10.
The memory unit 4 is configured to save an information item I as a function of the animation 10.
The animation 10 comprises the information item I.
The unit 4 is configured to save the information item I or a shortcut to the information item I. The icon 5 is selectable by the user and the screen 3 is configured, when the user selects the icon 5, to show an icon 11 associated with the information item I or with the shortcut to the information item I.
The menu M constitutes a collection or list of the user's favourite functions or configurations in the form of icons 11 .
For example, as shown in Figure 2, the function F1 may be the radio function and the animation 10 may be an animation of the selected radio station.
In this case, the information item concerned is the name and frequency of the radio station.
In a preferred embodiment, after the user selects the icon 5 to access the menu M, the screen 3 is configured to show an icon 11 , visible in Figure 6, representing the selected animation 10 (relating to the vehicle function F1 or configuration C1 ).
In an embodiment, the screen 3 is configured to allow the user to drag the selected animation 10 towards the icon 5 on the screen 3 itself.
For example, the screen 3 is configured to allow the user to select the animation 10 with two fingers and to drag it onto the icon 5 with two fingers. In other words, the screen 3 is configured to allow the user to select the animation 10 by touching the screen 3 with two fingers and dragging the animation 10 towards the icon 5 while holding the two fingers in contact with the screen 3.
When the user starts dragging the animation 10, it may change, reducing the screen area occupied and becoming an animation 10' signifying the animation 10.
For example, as shown in Figures 2 and 3, the animation 10 of the radio station has a rectangular shape and occupies a large part of the screen 3; when the user drags the animation 10, it is reduced to an animation 10' which is square in shape and smaller in size than the animation 10.
In the example illustrated, the animation 10' comprises a symbol representing a radio antenna, hence signifying the animation 10.
In an embodiment, as illustrated in Figure 4, the screen 3 is configured to show a message 6 indicating that the information item has been saved to the favourites menu.
