Definitions
- the present invention refers to a constructive arrangement applied to carton packages of the type used to contain small amounts of liquid food products, such as juices, chocolate drinks and others, said packages generally having the shape of a parallelepiped "box" provided, in an upper end wall, with a circular opening, normally closed by a tear-off panel and which is ruptured when pressed by a chamfered end of a straw configured to be inserted, by the user and snugly, inside the carton pack and, thus, allow the liquid product to be sucked by the consumer.
- a parallelepiped "box” provided, in an upper end wall, with a circular opening, normally closed by a tear-off panel and which is ruptured when pressed by a chamfered end of a straw configured to be inserted, by the user and snugly, inside the carton pack and, thus, allow the liquid product to be sucked by the consumer.
- Parallelepipedic carton packs are well known in the state of the art , with an upper extreme wall provided with a circular opening that is closed by a panel to be broken through the insertion of a usual straw , in normally recyclable material , used for suction of the liquid product by the consumer.
- carton packs are made in superimposed layers, usually laminated, of cardboard, plastic and aluminum, generally using at least one inner layer of polymer, such as polyethylene, an intermediate layer of aluminum, a structural layer of cardboard or paperboard and at least one outer layer of polymer, usually polyethylene.
- the circular opening for inserting the suction straw is defined in at least one outer layer of polymer and the structural layer of cardboard paper, said circular opening remaining closed by a breakable panel, defined by respective portions of the intermediate layer of aluminum and the at least one inner layer of polymer, ensuring the tightness of the package up to that said breakable panel is already broken by the consumer, by means of pressing the chamfered end of the straw (or any other instrument) on the intermediate layer of aluminum and on the at least one internal layer of polymer.
- the diameter of the circular opening provided in at least one external layer of polymer and in the structural layer of cardboard or cardboard, corresponds, with little or almost no gap, to the external diameter of the straw, making it difficult or even preventing the entry of air into the package, during the suction of the liquid product by the consumer or even the inadvertent spillage of the liquid through the circular opening in which the straw is inserted.
- Carton packs of the type considered here therefore, have the inconvenience of making it difficult to suck out the liquid content, making this operation uncomfortable, particularly for children and often leading to an incomplete extraction of the liquid product from the inside the package.

Description
"ARRANJO CONSTRUTIVO PARA ABERTURA DE EMBALAGENS CARTONADAS" Campo da invenção "CONSTRUCTIVE ARRANGEMENT FOR OPENING CARTON PACKAGES" Field of invention
[ 001 ] The present invention refers to a constructive arrangement applied to carton packages of the type used to contain small amounts of liquid food products, such as juices, chocolate drinks and others, said packages generally having the shape of a parallelepiped "box" provided, in an upper end wall, with a circular opening, normally closed by a tear-off panel and which is ruptured when pressed by a chamfered end of a straw configured to be inserted, by the user and snugly, inside the carton pack and, thus, allow the liquid product to be sucked by the consumer.
Antecedentes da invenção Background of the invention
[ 002 ] Parallelepipedic carton packs are well known in the state of the art , with an upper extreme wall provided with a circular opening that is closed by a panel to be broken through the insertion of a usual straw , in normally recyclable material , used for suction of the liquid product by the consumer.
[ 003 ] These carton packs are made in superimposed layers, usually laminated, of cardboard, plastic and aluminum, generally using at least one inner layer of polymer, such as polyethylene, an intermediate layer of aluminum, a structural layer of cardboard or paperboard and at least one outer layer of polymer, usually polyethylene.
[ 004 ] In this type of packaging, the circular opening for inserting the suction straw is defined in at least one outer layer of polymer and the structural layer of cardboard paper, said circular opening remaining closed by a breakable panel, defined by respective portions of the intermediate layer of aluminum and the at least one inner layer of polymer, ensuring the tightness of the package up to that said breakable panel is already broken by the consumer, by means of pressing the chamfered end of the straw (or any other instrument) on the intermediate layer of aluminum and on the at least one internal layer of polymer.
[ 005 ] With the rupture of the panel , formed by respective portions of the intermediate layer of aluminum and at least one inner layer of polymer , the consumer can introduce the straw inside the package and start suctioning the liquid content .
[ 00 6 ] It happens that in these packages, the diameter of the circular opening, provided in at least one external layer of polymer and in the structural layer of cardboard or cardboard, corresponds, with little or almost no gap, to the external diameter of the straw, making it difficult or even preventing the entry of air into the package, during the suction of the liquid product by the consumer or even the inadvertent spillage of the liquid through the circular opening in which the straw is inserted.
[ 007 ] The inconvenience of this well-known constructive arrangement for opening small carton packages for liquid food products results from the fact that they make the progressive suction of their liquid content difficult, to the point of causing the structural-volumetric collapse of the package, to compensate for pressure imbalance internal and atmospheric, as the liquid content is sucked in, with certain intensity, which generally occurs with adults. This operation is uncomfortable, requiring suction effort for complete removal of the contents of the package.
[ 008 ] The above inconvenience is even more pronounced when the liquid content of the package is sucked by a child . In this case, it is more difficult for an intense volumetric collapse of the package to occur due to lack of negative suction pressure, leading the child consumer to interrupt the process of sucking the liquid before extracting the entire contents of the package.
[ 00 9 ] As embalagens cartonadas do tipo aqui considerado, apresentam, portanto, o inconveniente de dificultar a sucção do conteúdo liquido, tornando es sa operação desconfortável , particularmente para as crianças e levando, muitas vezes , a uma extração incompleta do produto liquido do interior da embalagem . [ 00 9 ] Carton packs of the type considered here, therefore, have the inconvenience of making it difficult to suck out the liquid content, making this operation uncomfortable, particularly for children and often leading to an incomplete extraction of the liquid product from the inside the package.
[ 0010 ] Another drawback of the carton packages considered here results from the fact that pressing the chamfered end of the straw (or any other instrument) on the breakable panel, defined by the intermediate layer of aluminum and at least one internal layer of polymer, causes not only the rupture of the breakable panel, but also its displacement towards the inside of the package, taking impurities and eventual pathogenic agents, deposited on the breakable panel during the shelf period of the carton package 10 , to contact the stored food product and to be sucked by the consumer, usually a child. Summary of the invention [0011] Due to the aforementioned drawbacks and related to the prior art, it is an object of the present invention to provide a constructive arrangement for opening carton packages to contain individual quantities of liquid food products suckable, by the consumer, through a straw to be inserted, in a tight manner, through an upper circular opening of the package, said constructive arrangement being configured to allow the liquid content of the packages to be easily and completely sucked, without requiring inadequate suction efforts, without causing deformation volumetric structure of the packaging and without making the packaging susceptible to undesirable spills of liquid, during operations of consumption of the packaged product.

[0019] As already mentioned and illustrated in the drawings, the invention in question is aimed at a type of carton package 10 used to contain a small amount, generally 200 ml, of a liquid food product, as with doses or amounts of total individual consumption of juices, chocolate drinks and others.
[ 0020 ] The carton package 10 , considered here, generally has a parallelepiped shape, with its walls formed by a laminated composite material, defined in overlapping layers of structural cardboard, aluminum and polymer. In a known construction, the walls of the carton package 10 are formed by at least one inner layer 20 of polymer, generally polyethylene, an intermediate layer 30 of aluminum, one structural layer 40 of paperboard or paperboard and at least one outer layer 50 of polymer, also generally defined by polyethylene.
[0021] According to the invention, the carton pack 10 has an upper wall 11 provided with a first and a second opening 12, 13, spaced apart from the center of the upper wall 11. In the illustrated constructions, openings 12, 13 are provided close to one of the apexes or to one of the front or back edges. The first opening 12 is generally circular, the second opening 13 being able to have an outline equal to the outline of the first opening 12 or any other outline smaller or larger than that of the first opening 12.
[ 0022 ] The first and second openings 12, 13 are defined by at least one outer layer 50 of polymer, the structural layer 40 of paperboard, the intermediate layer 30 of aluminum and at least one inner layer 20 of polymer, communicating the inside of the carton pack 10 with the outside, through the upper wall 11.
11 da embalagem cartonada 10, em torno da respectiva abertura[0023] The first and second openings 12, 13 are kept externally closed, each one by a sealing seal L, defined by a film 60, of plastic or other suitable material, such as aluminum, the film 60 of each L-seal sized to be glued, manually detachable, directly, or on a pre-incorporated base in the package, on the external face of the upper wall 11 of the carton pack 10, around its opening
12, 13. 12, 13.
[0024] Each film 60 incorporates, at one end and preferably in a single piece, a handle portion 61, which extends outside the region of the respective opening 12, 13 and which remains unglued on the upper wall 11, in order to be able to be kept seated on the latter or folded over part of the length of the film 60, so that it can be moved upwards and taken by the consumer's fingers, who will then be able to pull the seal L, detaching it from the upper wall 11 and opening each opening at the top 12, 13 out of the package 10, as shown in figures 1, 5 and 6.
[0025] While the seals L are glued on the outer face of the upper wall 11 of the carton package 10, the latter will be hermetically closed, keeping the packaged product protected from contamination.
[0026] Still according to the invention, each of the first and second openings 12, 13 of the upper wall 11 is associated with a respective check valve VR defined in a polymer plate 70, for example polyethylene, compatible with the storage of food products and having an outline, polygonal or circular. The plate 70 has a peripheral ring portion 71 incorporated into the inner face of the upper wall 11, around a respective opening 12, 13, and a central portion 72 defined by a plurality of sectors S, circumferentially adjacent and separated from each other only by radial cutouts 73 provided in said central portion 72, sectors S being elastically deformable from a rest condition, coplanar to each other and closing the check valve VR, to an opening condition of the check valve VR retention, in which they are flexed towards the inside of the carton pack 10, by the action of a straw 80 inserted in the pack 10 or by pressure drop inside the latter.
[0027] Each plate 70 has its central portion 72, generally circular and whose contour 72a defines, with the contour of the plate 70, the peripheral ring portion 71 which is glued or otherwise incorporated into the inner face of the upper wall 11 of the carton pack 10, around the respective first or second opening 12, 13, the central portion 72 of each plate 70 being provided with radial cutouts 73, generally eight in number, equally spaced and extending from the contour 72a of the central portion 72 to the center 72b of the latter, in axial alignment with the center of the respective first and second openings 12, 13 of the upper wall 11.
The construction described above allows the central portion 72 of each plate 70 to be defined by a plurality of sectors S circumferentially adjacent and which can be elastically deformed from a condition of rest or closed check valve VR, illustrated in the figures 3, 4 and
5, na qual permanecem coplanares e adjacentes entre si, mantendo a porção central 72 fechada, para uma condição flexionada para o interior da embalagem cartonada 10, por ação do usual canudo 80 (fornecido com essas embalagens) , como ilustrado nas figuras 5 e 6, ou por queda de pressão no interior da embalagem cartonada 10, como ilustrado na figura5, in which they remain coplanar and adjacent to each other, keeping the central portion 72 closed, for a condition flexed towards the inside of the carton package 10, by the action of the usual straw 80 (supplied with these packages), as illustrated in figures 5 and 6 , or by pressure drop inside the carton package 10, as illustrated in figure
6, and in which they allow the passage of the straw 80, firstly from its chamfered end 81, through one of the first and second openings 12, 13 and the entry of air through the other of said openings 12, 13, for balancing the internal pressure of the carton package 10 with atmospheric pressure, during the suction of the product by the consumer.
[0029] The first opening 12, circular, of the carton packs in question, has a diameter that corresponds, with little or almost no clearance, to the diameter of the straw 80, in such a way that, when the latter is fitted through the first opening 12 , the passage of air between the straw 80 and the contour of said opening 12 is practically blocked. [0030] The material and dimensions of the plate 70 are determined so that the sectors S remain in a condition of rest, coplanar and adjacent to each other , keeping the central portion 72 closed and preventing splashes and splashes of the packaged liquid from being expelled out of the carton package 10 through that first or second opening 12, 13 that is not receiving a straw 80.
[0031] The closing condition of the central portion 72 and, consequently, of the check valve VR, is maintained as long as said sectors S are not subjected to any force that makes them flex elastically, towards the inside of the carton package 10, to a condition in which they move away from each other, unlocking the central portion 72 and bringing the check valve VR to the open condition, as illustrated in figure 6. The forces capable of elastically deforming the sectors S are defined by the introduction of the straw 80 (see figures 5 and 6) and/or by a drop in internal pressure of the carton package 10 (see figure 6), as a result of an effort to suck the product, through the straw 80, on the part of the consumer.
[0032] When consuming the liquid product contained in package 10, the consumer does not need to drill the panel breakable part of the known packages and push it into the carton package 10, but only pull the handle portions 61 of the seals L, detaching them from the first and second openings 12, 13 and then choosing the opening in which a portion of the extension of the straw 80 must be inserted inside the carton pack 10 , forcing the sectors S of the respective check valve VR to bend towards the inside of the carton pack 10 , as shown in figures 5 and 6 , to allow the consumer sucks the packaged liquid.
[ 0033 ] When the suction of liquid, promoted by the consumer, produces a pressure reduction inside the package, the pressure differential, in relation to the atmospheric pressure, will cause the bending, by elastic deformation, of the S sectors of the central portion 72 of the check valve VR of that opening 13 devoid of the straw 80, moving the sectors S apart from each other and leading the check valve VR to an open condition, to allow the entry of air inside the carton package 10 and the rebalancing of its internal pressure with atmospheric pressure, allowing the consumer to suck all the liquid product through the external end 82 of the straw 80, easily and without great efforts.
[ 0034 ] In cases where the first and second openings 12 , 13 have the same contour and the same dimension, they can be used alternately for inserting the straw 80 or for ventilation, giving the user more versatility regarding the positioning to be chosen for insertion of the suction straw 80, after the respective seals L have been detached from the upper wall 11 of the carton pack 10. [ 0035 ] As can be seen from the figures , the first opening 12 and the second opening 13 are positioned eccentrically on the top wall 11 of the carton pack 10 , and can be respectively arranged close to diagonally opposite vertices of the top wall 11 of the carton pack 10 , as illustrated in Figure 1, or are transversely opposed, arranged close to the front and rear edges, respectively, of the top wall 11 of the carton package 10, as shown in Figure 2. In both cases, the two openings 12, 13 are eccentric and positioned at a distance from each other and on the sides of the upper wall 11 opposite to the center of the latter, as illustrated in figures 1 and 2 of the attached drawings.
[ 0036 ] With the proposed constructive arrangement, the user detaches the seals L from the two openings 12, 13 of the upper wall 11 of the carton pack 10 and introduces the chamfered end 81 of the straw 80 through one of said openings 12, 13, situation in which the other opening operates as a ventilation opening, allowing an easy and complete extraction of the liquid product, without requiring an inadequate and uncomfortable suction effort by the adult or child user and without the risk of undesirable spills of liquid out of the carton package, through the ventilation opening devoid of the straw 80 but provided with the respective non-return valve VR. In this new constructive solution, the L-seals are detached from the packaging and not pushed into it.
