Definitions

  • a BLANK CONFIGURED TO BE ERECTED INTO A PALLET Field of invention The invention relates to a blank configured to be erected into a pallet.
  • Technical Background Boxes made of e.g. cardboards are typically used for protecting, storing and transporting a variety of goods.
  • Such boxes may be produced by cutting out a blank from a flat sheet of a packaging material.
  • the blank may be provided with fold lines.
  • Such blank may be folded using the fold lines and may be erected into a folded state to form a box.
  • the box is typically hold in the folded state using a connecting means such as a glue or a plurality of staples.
  • the boxes are often placed on pallets and are stacked on top of each other to save space.
  • a blank configured to be erected into a pallet, the blank comprising a main panel configured to form a bottom wall of the pallet, two oppositely arranged side wall panels configured to form two oppositely arranged side walls of the pallet, wherein respective side wall panel is foldably connected to a respective one of two oppositely arranged longitudinally extending edges of the main panel, wherein the side wall panels further comprises longitudinally extending panels at each opposite end of each respective side wall, said longitudinally extending panels being foldably connected through transversally extending fold lines to the respective end of the side wall panels, wherein the respective transversally extending fold lines comprises a locking recess, two oppositely arranged end wall panels configured to form two oppositely arranged end walls of the pallet, wherein respective end wall panel is foldably connected to a respective one of two oppositely arranged transversely extending edges of the main panel, respective end wall panels comprises locking tabs at each transversally extending edges, wherein the longitudinally extending edges and the transversely extending edges of the main panel and geometric
  • an effective and light-weight pallet may be formed.
  • the cut of the blank being formed at each geometrical corner portion of the geometrical rectangle and extending outside of the geometrical corner portion into an associated end wall panel of the two oppositely arranged end wall panels provides a leg tab at the respective corner portion of the geometrical rectangle.
  • This allows for using the blank in an effective manner since the leg portions are formed by material of within the perimeters of the end wall panel and the main panel, respectively. Thereby, no extra material e.g. no extra blank material is required to form the leg portions.
  • the leg tab automatically extends downwardly relative to the longitudinally extending edge of the main panel and the longitudinally extending edges of the side wall panels when the blank is erected into a pallet.
  • the leg tabs provide the pallet with legs. This provides a space between the floor and the bottom of the pallet making it possible for a forklift or any other means of lifting to lift the pallet from beneath. Even further, the pallets are easily placed on top of each other, since the leg tabs of one pallet will fit into the respective open corner portion or on the outside of the respective corner portion of an underlying pallet. Thus, the leg portion may also be used to provide stability while stacking the pallets, which may reduce the use of plastic wrapping around stacked pallets. However, it should be understood that plastic wrapping may be used for an even more increased stability of stacked pallets.
  • the inventive allows for a simple and efficient manner of using the blank material to provide the required light weight pallet which requires minimal storage place before use.
  • the blank also makes it possible to provide a basically box shaped pallet, i.e. a pallet which provides both the legs allowing a forklift to extend underneath the bottom and a volume having a bottom panel and being surrounded by wall panels.
  • the locking recess and the locking tab are configured such that they, upon erecting the blank into a pallet, interlocks and provides the pallet with further support.
  • the locking tab locks the end wall panel to the side wall panel end the extension of the side wall panel such that it further supports the leg portions extending downwardly from the side wall portion and the extension of the side wall portion.
  • the extending portions of the side wall panel are folded around the outside and aligned with the end wall panels upon erecting the blank into a pallet.
  • the pallet may further comprise an additional bottom layer configured to be arranged inside the pallet on top of the main panel. Thereby, the final pallet may have double bottom layers.
  • the pallet may have an extra thick bottom part which allows for extra support and protection of goods placed inside of the pallet.
  • additional refers to the fact that it is a separate layer or panel which is positioned on top of the main panel. It may also be noted that this additional panel may have an extension being different from the main panel. The additional panel may preferably have an extension fully covering the geometrical rectangle. Thereby it is made possible to provide a pallet having a fully closed bottom.
  • openings or absent portions in the additional panel This may e.g. be used to provide drain openings. Such drain openings may e.g. be smaller than, but still be positioned overlapping with, the openings at the corners of the geometrical rectangle formed by the leg tabs.
  • the drain openings may e.g. be provided to secure that dust or debris from the load or from protective material may easily be removed from the inside of the box shaped pallet.
  • the respective leg tab may extend into the geometrical rectangle at each geometrical corner portion of the geometrical rectangle a distance along the transversal direction (T) and a distance along the longitudinal direction (L), the distances being within a range of 20% to 60% relative to a height of the side walls and the end walls of the pallet. It may be noted that the leg tab may extend into the geometrical rectangle at each geometrical corner portion of the geometrical rectangle in a parallel manner with respect to the geometrical extension of the transversely extending edges.
  • the leg tab may extend into the geometrical rectangle at each geometrical corner portion of the geometrical rectangle with an angle with respect to the geometrical extension of the transversely extending edges. Similarly, the leg tab may extend into the geometrical rectangle at each geometrical corner portion of the geometrical rectangle in parallel with or with an angle with respect to the geometrical extension of the longitudinally extending edges.
  • leg tabs will not reach below the side walls and end walls of the pallet on which it is stacked. It may also be noted that in case the side walls and the end walls have different heights and/or varying heights, the reference to the height of the side walls and the end walls refers to the largest height. Moreover, such leg tabs are considered to provide a strong locking mechanism of the pallet stacked on top of another pallet by aligning with the corners of the pallet below. Similarly, the respective leg tab may extend into the respective end wall panel a distance along the transversal direction and a distance along the longitudinal direction, the distances being within a range of 20% to 60% relative to a height of the side walls and/or of the end walls of the pallet.
  • a length of the geometrical extension of the respective leg tab inside the geometrical rectangle (GR) and along the longitudinally extending edge of the main panel may be in the range of 5% to 20% relative to the longitudinal length of the main panel.
  • the length of the geometrical extension along the longitudinally extending edge of the main panel is associated with the width of the leg portion along the side wall.
  • a length of the geometrical extension of the respective leg tab inside the geometrical rectangle (GR) and along the transversally extending edge of the main panel may be in the range of 5% to 20% relative to the transversal length of the main panel.
  • the length of the geometrical extension along the transversally extending edge of the main panel is associated with the height of the leg portion.
  • the first leg tab portion and the second leg tab portion may be connected to each other such that there is formed a continuous leg tab being folded about the geometrical extension of the respective transversally extending fold line between the respective end of the side wall panels and the respective longitudinally extending panel. Thereby it is facilitated to provide strong legs of the pallet.
  • the blank may further be cut by the geometrical extension of the transversely extending edges of the main panel such that there is formed a first and a second leg tab being separated from each other.
  • each leg tab may be cut into two separate leg tabs.
  • the two leg tabs may then be folded individually such that it may be adapted to different needs by having only the legs extending from the side wall panels or only the legs from the end wall panels.
  • the first leg tab may be connected to an associated side wall panel of the two oppositely arranged side wall panels across the geometrical extension of the respective longitudinally extending edge of the main panel, and/or the second leg tab may be connected to an associated longitudinally extending panel across a geometrical extension of the respective longitudinally extending edge of the main panel .
  • the blank may be formed of a paper-based material.
  • the paper-based material may provide desired robustness and durability.
  • the paper-based material may easily be folded and cut.
  • Some examples of paper-based materials are paperboard, cardboard or corrugated cardboard.
  • the invention may in short be said to relate to a blank configured to be erected into a pallet, the blank comprising a main panel, two oppositely arranged side wall panels, and two oppositely arranged end wall panels.
  • the blank is cut such that at each geometrical corner portion a leg tab is formed, wherein when the side wall panels are folded upwardly relative to the respective longitudinally extending edge of the main panel and when the end wall panels are folded upwardly relative to the transversely extending edges of the main panel, the respective leg tabs extend downwardly.
