Description

A PROTECTIVE DEVICE FOR AGRICULTURAL MACHINES
FIELD OF INVENTION
The invention relates to devices for preventing damages to plants from operating agricultural machines.
PRIOR ART
Various types of protective devices for use on agricultural machines are known, which protect trees and shrubs during cultivation activities.
Patent US3228483, publication date 1966-01-11, ICL A01 B-039/16, is known, which describes an agricultural implement with an obstacle avoidance function. When encountering a tree trunk, the protective lever of the device turns and offsets the frame mechanism, thus preventing its collision with the trunk.
Patent US4341268, publication date 1982-07-27, ICL A01B-013/04, shows the design of a protective device containing curved actuators, which contact plants growing in two rows, between which the plow is operating. A guiding device is applied to provide an automatic alignment of the plow between the two rows and to offset crosswise moving elements in accordance with the distance between the two rows.
Also known is the protective device as per Patent DE4112321 , publication date 1992-10-22, ICL A01D-034/82, which is designed to prevent damage to young trees when cutting grass or weed between or around them. The device consists of a clamp installed around the perimeter of the rotary knife housing.
This invention is the closest analogue to the case in point.
DISCLOSURE OF INVENTION
The technical result achieved in the present invention is an improved reliability of damage protection for tree trunks and bushes and a prolonged service life of the protective device.
The protective device for agricultural machines includes two rotatable pulleys mounted on axles and interconnected with a belt. The working section of the belt, where its outer surface contacts trees, is enclosed in a guide bar.
The protective device can be additionally equipped with a belt tensioner. Besides, the belt is made of a material having a low coefficient of sliding friction against the material of the guide bar.
In addition, the guide bar can be made straight along the length of the section enclosing the belt.
Alternatively, the guide bar can be made curved along the length of the section enclosing the belt.
In this case, the protective device can be installed in front of the working tool of the agricultural machine
Ultimately, the belt can be designed as a set of at least two independent belts.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS
Fig. 1 shows a top view of the protective device.
Fig. 2 shows a side view of the protective device.
Fig. 3 shows a side view of the protective device cut across A-A.
Fig. 4 shows a sectional view of the guide bar with a pulley.
Fig. 5 shows a side view of the protective device with a curved guide bar.
Fig. 6 shows an example of the protective device mounting on a cutting tool of an agricultural machine.
EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION
The protective device for agricultural machines includes two rotatable pulleys 1 mounted on axles 3 and interconnected with a belt 2, whereas section 4, where the outer surface of the belt 2 contacts trees, is enclosed in a guide bar 5 (Fig. 1 - Fig. 3). The protective device also includes a belt 2 tensioner, consisting of two rollers 7.
The belt 2 can be designed as a single belt, or as a set of two independent belts. The belt 2 is inserted into the groove 6 of the guide bar 5 (Fig. 4). Its can be made of a material with a low sliding coefficient to improve its sliding against the material of the bar 5. If two independent belts 2 are used, the guide bar 5 has two grooves 6.
The section of the guide bar 5 enclosing the belt 2 can be made straight (Fig. 1), or curved (Fig. 5) if the surface for its installation is curved. An example of protective device installation on an agricultural machine in front of its working tool 8 (a cutting tool in our case) is shown in (Fig. 6). The protective device is attached to the agricultural machine, for example, using the fastening strip 9.
The protective device operates as follows. Depending on the type of cultivated plants, for example, trees or bushes, a required tension of the belt 2 is preset by shifting tensioner rollers 7.
When the working tool 8 passes near a tree trunk or vine, the belt 2 interacts with the trunk along the contact section 4. This contact causes the belt to turn around the pulley. Meanwhile, the contact section 4 of the belt 2 remains in contact with the tree trunk without displacing. The contact only causes the displacement of the belt 2 in relation to the groove 6 of the guide bar 5 and to the pulleys 1. Thus, the tree bark suffers no damage when coming in contact with the protective device. Neither does the protective device injure bushes; it only rolls by without displacing them, specifically, without shaking berries off the bush.
Apart from protecting plants, this invention prolongs the service life of the protective device, since the belt does not wear out over a long period of time.
Besides, the belt 2 of the protective device can be easily replaced in case of necessity. If two or more independent belts are used, a rupture of one of them would not stop the work since the other belt/belts are operational.
INDUSTRIAL APPLICABILITY
The proposed device provides damage protection to tree trunks, vines and bushes during the operation of various agricultural machines.
