Description
Background of the Inventions
The present invention relates broadly to a topical therapeutic composition and is more particularly concerns with a composition which is therapeutically effective when topically applied to irritated and/or inflamed, skin tissues such as bed sores , dermatitis, itchy skin due to variety of skin problems, Neurodermatitis, acne and the tike.
Among the more bothersome conditions of Man are those which involve the irritation or inflammation of the skin tissue. Not only is the physical discomfort of soreness and itching sensation involved, but also there often occur severe emotional issues and social stigmas attendant the sufferer’s almost universal compelling urge to repeatedly scratch and touch the affected area.
Itching: An uncomfortable sensation in the skin that feels as if something is crawling on the skin and makes the person want to scratch the affected area. Itching is medically known as Pruritus, itchy skin can be caused or worsened by dry skin. If s common in older adults, as skin tends to become drier with age. Depending on the cause of your itchy skin, it may appear normal, red, tough or bumpy. Repeated scratching can cause raised thick areas of skin that might bleed or become infected. Many people find relief with self-care measures such as moisturizing daily;
Neurodermatitis is a skin condition that’s also known as lichen simplex chronicus. It causes patches of itchy skin that lead to scratching, which makes you feel even itchier. The condition isn’t contagious. It may be due to something that irritates your skin, like a bug bite or tight clothes that trigger the itch- scratch cycle.
Bed sores are injuries to the skin and underlying tissue and are primarily caused by prolonged pressure on the skin.
Acne, the occurrence of inflamed or infected sebaceous glands in the skin; in particular, a condition characterized by red pimples on the face, prevalent chiefly among teenagers.
Mild bum a mild bum characterized by heat, pain, and reddening of the burned surface but not exhibiting blistering or charring of tissues.
Description of the inventions
The composition of the invention comprises of Olive oil and between about 0.001 to about 99.99% by weight and volume of Tea tree oil, I generally prefer a composition wherein the composition of the Tea tree oil component is about 001% to about 99.99% by weight and volume.
Olive oil is the extract of olive (Olea europaea) and is general produced by first grinding the ripe olive fruit into paste and then extracting the oil from the ground paste by mechanical or chemical means, in general, for the composition of the invention I prefer an olive oil component which is drived from the ground paste solely by mechanical means (Virgin olive oil), such as by pressing or centrifuging.
Due to its chemical makeup and physical properties the olive oil component of the invention contributes meaningfully to the overall therapeutic effect achieved by the composition of the invention when applied topically to an irritated or inflamed skin area, for instances, its oily consistency permits it to act as a lubricant and to thereby reduce the pain and itching associated with this condition. Too, its oliophilic nature acts as a barrier to water winch is highly desirable in the effect of the treatment of the irritation and/or inflammation of skin. Too, its mildly acidic PH roughly matches foe PH of healthy skin and thus serves to maintain this normal condition of acidity, thereby fostering the healing process.
Additionally, olive oil contains substantial amount of antioxidants and vitamins, particularly vitamins
A, E and K, and all of which can contribute substantially to the nourishment of the skin epithelium as it undergoes the healing process.
Tea tree oil is the extract produced commercially by distillation of tea tree (Melaleuca altemafolia) plant material and, to a lesser extend, by distillation of Melaleuca dissitiflora or Melaleuca linarafolia plant materials. Tea tree oil has very substantial antiviral, antibacterial, antifungal and antiseptic properties and in it is these properties which serve in the composition of the invention to minimize infectious attack on the inflamed skin tissue as it heals. Thus, the components of the invention cooperate to provide a salubrious environment whereby the healing process of foe skin tissue can proceed at a maximum pace with minimum risk of secondary infection.
The therapeutic composition of the invention, as mentioned is topically applied to the affected skin tissue. This can be done by direct digital manipulation or by use of pledgets, gauze pads, cotton balls and the like saturated with the composition. Also contemplated is the use of various applicator devices known in the art.
The therapeutic composition of the invention, in addition to its olive oil and tea tree oil components, can also comprise additional medicament's and modifiers. For instance, the basic oil composition can be physically modified by emulsifying with an aqueous phase , thereby to result in a composition having the physical form of a lotion, cream, ointment or the like. Too, additional medicament's are one or more of the following: local anesthesia such as Lidocaine, benzocaine, pramocaine, xylocaine, novocaine and the like; Vasoconstriction such as ephedrine sulfate or phenylephrine; protectants such as aluminum hydroxide, coco butter, kaolin, lanolin, zinc oxide or cod liver oil; astringents such as witch hazel; analgesics such as Aloe Vera and corticosteroids such as hydrocortisone and methylprednisone. OBJECTSOFTHEINVENTION
It is a principal object of the present object of the present invention is to provide a novel topical therapeutic composition.
It is another object of the invention to provide a novel method for the palliative treatment of irritated or inflamed skin tissues.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will, in part, be obvious and will, in, appear hereinafter.
The topical therapeutic composition of the invention broadly comprises olive oil and between about 0.001 to about 99.99% by volume and weight of witch hazel, I generally prefer a composition wherein the concentration of the witch hazel component is about 8% by volume.
The palliative treatment method of the invention comprises applying the composition of the invention to irritated or inflamed skin tissues.

For instance, its oily consistency permits it to act as a lubricant and to thereby reduce the pain and itching associated with this condition, Too, its oleophilic nature acts as a barrier to water which is highly desirable to promote healing of the irritated and/or inflamed skin tissue. Too, its mildly acidic PH roughly matches the PH of healthy skin tissue and thus serves to maintain this normal condition of acidity, thereby also fostering the healing process. Additionally, olive oil contains substantial amounts of antioxidants and vitamins, particularly vitamins A, E, K, and all of which can contribute substantially to the nourishment of the skin epithelium as it undergoes the healing process.
