Abstract

Provided herein are genetically modified yeast cells engineered for increased production amounts and rates of biosynthetic homogentisic acid and biosynthetic pyomelanin. Also provided are methods using the disclosed genetically modified yeast cells, biosynthetic homogentisic acid, and biosynthetic pyomelanin.
