Description

CAR REAR BIKE RACK
Technical Field
The subject of the invention relates to hitch-mounted bike rack with increased efficiency and safety that can be connected to hitch ball mount of the public transport vehicle or to the back part of the vehicles in order to carry more than one bikes in the public transportation vehicles.
The subject of the invention relates to a bike rack which can be easily mounted and demounted to the hitch ball mount of the vehicles and has the feature to be folded while connected to the public transportation vehicles
Prior Art
Currently, bikers carry their bikes within the public transportation vehicles and cause density by occupying extra space. On the other hand, bikes occupying a lot of space are not preferred by the public transportation vehicle drivers when there are more than one. Therefore, bikers cannot carry the bikes they want to, inside the public transportation vehicle.
Today, different types of bike racks that are mounted to the outer part of the vehicles to carry bikes in public transportation vehicles are used. Essentially, the problem is solved in a similar way and the bike that is desired to be carried is carried by being connected to the hitch ball mount of the public transportation vehicle. One or more than one bikes can be carried on the apparatus. However, the apparatuses with more than one place to put the bikes also occupy unnecessary space when one bike is placed. Furthermore, in cases where more than one bike is desired to be carried, bikes cannot be carried on apparatuses that cannot provide the required resistance even if there are space for other bikes.
Bike carrier apparatuses used in the state of the art take a lot of space in open or closed positions. The folding system of the apparatuses has more complex structures and takes a lot of time. When mounted on the vehicle, the apparatus can easily open and close the trunk lid. However, when bikes are connected to the apparatus, trunk lid of the vehicle cannot be accessed.

In Figure 1, rear hitch-mounted bike rack (27) with increased efficiency and safety that can be connected to the rear hitch of public transportation vehicle to carry more than one bike (26) is seen. The bike rack (27) is connected to the rear hitch of the vehicles by means of locking mechanism (1). The bike rack (27) that is connected to the rear hitch of the vehicles by means of locking mechanism (1) is locked via locking arm (2).
The bike rack (27), in the most general terms, consists of 5 main elements as carrier carcass (12), cylindrical carcass (11), wheel presser (3), locking mechanism (1) and the bike upper holder (14). The carcass that composes the skeletal system of the bike rack (27) is composed of, different from the state of the art, carrier carcass with square profile structure (12) and cylindrical carcass with circularsection profile structure (11). The carrier carcass (12) is in a rectangular form composed by connecting more than one square profile to one another from the profile ends. Cylindrical carcass (11) on the other hand is in a rectangular form composed by connecting more than one circular-section profile from the profile ends. The carrier carcass (12) provides both resistance and weight advantage to the bike rack (27). The carrier carcass (12) structure has the most suitable design in accordance with the loads placed on the vehicle. The carrier carcass (12) and the cylindrical carcass (11) are the mechanism parts that carry all the elements in the bike rack (27). The carrier carcass (12) and the cylindrical carcass (11) ensure that the parts on them move axially and circularly and that they are fixed. (Figure - 2).
To connect the front and rear wheels of the bike (26) to the bike rack (27), the wheel presser (3) is placed on the carrier carcass (12). There are 6 wheel pressers (3) to be placed mutually one in the front and one in the back for each bike (26) as seen in Figure - 2. Depending on the wish of the producer, the number of wheel pressers (3) may change according to the number of bikes (26). When the wheel pressers (3) are in open position, the carrier carcass (12) is locked by wheel presser handle (4). Each wheel presser (3) is locked by at least one wheel presser handle (4) by rotating. Fixing the bike (26) is ensured by the bike upper holder (14) on the upper part of the bike rack (27). Bike upper holder (14) is connected to the upper holder tube (15) by means of upper holder bracket (16). (Figure - 1). Upper holder tube (15) is perpendicular to the cylindrical carcass (11). Each bike (26) placed on the bike rack (27) is connected by at least one bike upper holder (14). By this way, the upper and lower parts of the bike (26) is easily connected to the bike rack (27) and made sure that it remains fixed on the vehicle.
In Figure - 3 is the modularity mechanism of the bike rack (27). The modularity mechanism allows more than one bike (26) to be carried on the bike rack (27). Modularity mechanism is composed by carcass profiles (12.3, 12.4, 12.5) forming the carrier carcass (12) and profiles (11.1, 11.2, 11.3) forming the cylindrical carcass (11) that is the extension of the upper holder tube (15). On, below or next to the carrier carcass (12), by connecting the profile ends of more than one cylindrical section, the cylindrical carcass is formed. The carrier carcass (12) and the cylindrical carcass (11) are connected to each other by means of wheel presser (3). The carrier carcass (12) and the cylindrical carcass (11) are formed by different profiles between each wheel presser (3). As seen in Figure - 3, the carrier carcass (12) is composed of different parts as carcass profiles (12.3, 12.4, 12.5) between each wheel presser (3). The cylindrical carcass (11) is also formed in the same way by individual parts being cylindrical profiles (11.1, 11.2, 11.3) between each wheel presser (3). Carcass profiles (12.3, 12.4, 12.5) forming said carrier carcass (12) are connected to one another by the modularity bracket (23) and pins (25) placed in the modularity brackets (23). Cylindrical profiles (11.1, 11.2, 11.3) forming the cylindrical carcass (11) are connected to one another by the modularity tube bracket (24) with cylindrical structure. Said profiles are mounted and demounted by means of pins (25) creating the modularity option, that is the option to carry 2 or 3 bikes (26). (Figure - 4)
In Figure - 5, there are details of the tipping mechanism of the bike rack (27). The tipping mechanism allows the trunk lid to be opened and closed when the bikes (26) are connected to the bike rack (27). The operating principle of the tipping mechanism is to release the tipping locking part (19) on the carrier carcass (12) by loosening the tipping mechanism handle (5). Lock support part (20) helps the locking. Tipping body (21) and tipping support part (18) are stationary. The surfaces (18.1, 18.2) on the tipping support part (18) are special and provide guidance. After being released from the lock, the surfaces (18.1, 18.2) and the carrier carcass (12) moves 20-30 mm in the axial direction. After the axial movement, the carrier carcass tipping surface (12.1) becomes free. It provides the tipping process by making a circular movement together with the carrier carcass cylindrical profile (12.2). The tipped state of the bike rack (27) is shown in Figure - 6.
In Figure - 7 is the detail view of the wheel presser (3) folding mechanism. The bike rack (27) needs to be folded on the vehicle and/or the wheel presser handle (4) needs to be folded to be able to be carried by the user. By loosening the wheel presser handle (4), the locking of the wheel presser (3) is deactivated and the wheel presser (3) is moved 5-15 mm in linear direction and freed from the carrier carcass (12). When the wheel presser (3) is disconnected from the carrier carcass (12), only its connection with the cylindrical carcass (11) remains. By means of the cylindrical structure of the cylindrical carcass (11) to which the wheel presser (3) is connected, the wheel presser (3) can be folded towards the carrier carcass (12) from its outer and end parts. Each wheel presser (3) correspondingly present for front and rear wheels can be folded on one another (Figure - 12).
After folding the wheel pressers (3), the upper holder tube (15) needs to be folded towards the carrier carcass (12). In Figure - 10 and Figure - 11 are the detail view of the folding mechanism of the upper holder tube (15). The upper holder tube (15) is connected to the cylindrical carcass (11) from both sides of the locking mechanism (1) by means of the upper holder tube lower bracket (28) and upper holder tube pin (29) placed on the upper holder tube lower bracket (28). Upper holder tube (15) is connected to the carrier carcass (12) by means of the upper holder tube handle (30). By loosening the upper holder tube handle (30), the circular movement of the upper holder tube lower bracket (28) within the cylindrical carcass (11). With the circular movement of the upper holder tube lower bracket (28) within the cylindrical carcass (11), the upper holder tube (15) can be manually folded towards the carrier carcass (11) (Figure - 12).
In Figure - 8 and Figure - 9 are the view of the folding mechanism of the lamps (9). To fold the lamps (9) on both sides of the bike rack (27), the lamp handle )10) needs to be loosened. Lamp folding mechanism bracket (13) is released by the help of the bolts between the lamp handle (10) and the lamp folding mechanism bracket (13). The released lamp folding mechanism bracket (13) and the lamp (9) folds towards the right and left parts of the bike rack (27) through their circular movement around the axis of the lamp folding pin (22) (Figure - 12).
Bike rack (27) can be folded and moved within a case as seen in Figure - 12. The bike rack (27) used in the outer part of the vehicle is produced from materials resistant to the outer environment (ozone, corrosion, humidity, etc.). The bike rack (27) of the present invention has been subjected and passed to tests required for the vehicle regulations.
