  • An automotive or industrial gear oil comprising a) an oil of lubricating vis- cosity; b) 0.01 to 10 wt% of a sulfurized olefin comprising a mixture of sulfurized olefins of formula R 1 -S x -R 2 where R 1 and R 2 separately are derived from 2 to 6 carbon atom containing olefins and x is an integer of between 1 and 10, with the proviso that the sul- furized olefin will have a sulfur content of from about 10 to about 50 wt%, c) 25 to 10,000 ppm of a hydroxyalkylamine containing booster, and d) at least one of (i) 0.1 to 2 wt% of a metal alkylthiophosphate, (ii) 0.1 to 8 wt % of a thiadiazole-functionalized dispersant, (iii) mixtures of (i) and (ii).
  • the automotive or industrial gear oil of any previous sentence wherein the oil of lubricating viscosity comprises a group I oil.
  • the automotive or industrial gear oil of any previous sentence wherein the oil of lubricating viscosity comprises a group II oil.
  • the automotive or industrial gear oil of any previous sentence wherein the oil of lubricating viscosity comprises a group III oil.
  • the automotive or industrial gear oil of any previous sentence wherein the oil of lubricating viscosity comprises a group III+ oil.
  • the automotive or industrial gear oil of any previous sentence wherein the oil of lubricating viscosity comprises a group IV oil.
  • the automotive or industrial gear oil of any previous sentence wherein the oil of lubricating viscosity comprises a group V oil.
  • hydroxyalkylamine containing booster comprises, consists essentially of, consists of, an alkanolamine of structure I: Structure I where:
  • R 5 is a C4 to C30 hydrocarbyl group; R3 and R4 are individually a Ci to C10 hydro- carbyl group.
  • the hy- droxyalkylamine containing booster comprises a reaction product of a di-cocoalkyl amine (or di-cocoamine) with glycolic acid.
  • the hy- droxyalkylamine containing booster comprises a reaction product of a carboxylic acid or a reactive equivalent thereof with an aminoalcohol, wherein the hydroxy alkyl amine con- tains at least two hydrocarbyl groups, each containing at least 6 carbon atoms.
  • the amine phosphate comprises a substantially sulfur-free alkyl phosphate amine salt wherein at least about 30 mole percent of the phosphorus atoms are in an alkyl pyrophosphate salt structure and at least about 80 mole percent of the alkyl groups are secondary alkyl groups of about 3 to about 12 carbon atoms.
  • the amine phosphate comprises a substantially sulfur-free alkyl phosphate amine salt wherein at least about 30 mole percent of the phosphorus atoms are in an alkyl pyrophosphate salt structure and at least about 25 mole percent of the alkyl groups in such a sulfur-free alkyl phosphate can be primary alkyl groups of about 3 to about 12 carbon atoms.
  • metal alkylthiophosphate comprises zinc dialkyldithiophosphate.
  • the zinc dialkyldithiophosphate comprises, consists essentially of, or consists of a secondary zinc dialkyldithiophosphate.
  • the thiadiazole-functionalized dispersant is prepared by heating together ingredients compris- ing: (i) a dispersant substrate; (ii) a thiadiazole compound; optionally (iii) a dicarboxylic acid of an aromatic compound selected from the group consisting of 1,3 diacids and 1,4 diacids, (iv) optionally a borating agent; and (v) optionally a phosphorus acid compound, said heating being sufficient to provide a product of (i), (ii), (iii) and optionally (iv) and optionally (v), which is soluble in an oil of lubricating viscosity.
  • thiadiazole-functionalized dispersant is prepared by a method selected from the group consisting of heating, reacting and complexing a thiadi azole compound with a dispersant substrate.
  • the dispersant substrate of the thiadiazole-functionalized dispersant comprises, consists es- sentially of, consists of a succinimide dispersant.
  • the dispersant substrate of the thiadiazole-functionalized dispersant comprises, consists es- sentially of, consists of an ester-containing dispersant.
  • the dispersant substrate of the thiadiazole-functionalized dispersant comprises, consists es- sentially of, consists of a condensation product of a fatty hydrocarbyl monocarboxylic acylating agent with an amine or ammonia.
  • the dispersant substrate of the thiadiazole-functionalized dispersant comprises, consists es- sentially of, consists of a polyether dispersant.
  • the dispersant substrate of the thiadiazole-functionalized dispersant comprises, consists es- sentially of, consists of a polyetheramine dispersant.

  • a method of minimizing power losses in a driveline power transmitting device comprising providing to the driveline power transmitting device the automotive or industrial gear oil of any previous sentence, and operating the driveline power trans- mitting device.
