Definitions
- the invention relates to a root canal filling paste including boron that will eliminate many problems, especially with antibacterial properties, for a long time with controlled release to the basic chemical formula formed by alumina, zirconium, bioactive glass, composite and hydroxyapatite compounds.
- root canal treatments in dentistry are required when teeth are exposed to excessive and/or prolonged caries and therefore microorganisms reach the area of nerve and vascular fibers we call the pulp (core) of the tooth, when the teeth are traumatized, when the crown parts of the teeth we call the crown are broken to the extent that the pulp is exposed or before some restorative procedures.
- Contamination with microorganisms is an inevitable phenomenon in all of these requirements, especially caries, either due to the nature of the process or during the study process. The severity of this contamination varies depending on the process experienced. For instance, if the pulp tissue is damaged due to caries, it is subjected to necrosis, that is, it dies and bacteria start to multiply here. Bacteria can lead to an intense infection or abscess. If the root canal treatment is not performed or is not successful, it may also lead to serious conditions such as bone loss around the root.
- the first step after the diagnosis, and anesthesia if necessary, in root canal treatment is to open a cavity (gap) into the tooth to reach the infected pulp by cleaning the existing caries or fracture line. Along with the bacteria, the infected pulp and the relevant infection residues within this area are removed from the tooth.
- Various root canal tools are used for mechanical cleaning of the root canal and expansion of the same for filling. This process is called root canal filling. If the residual nerves are completely cleared during this procedure, the patient will not feel pain after and during the subsequent procedures. Serum physiological or sodium hypochlorite components are used to remove both debris accumulated during the filing process and residues remaining inside. After the root canal is thoroughly cleaned and expanded, it should be sealed by filling correctly.
- gutta percha is a material that looks like a thin stick. Although gutta percha is the main ingredient that fills the main gap of the root canal, additional mixtures should be used and are used to prevent and fix the leakage.
- Application no. 2012/11575 relates to propolis-based root canal filling paste that may be an alternative to root canal filling pastes with artificial and harmful contents.
- US6986662 relates to an adhesive endodontic cone comprising a hydrophobic elastomer substrate sized and shaped to be at least partially introduced into an exposed root canal of the tooth.
- Application no. US20030113686 relates to an endodontic filling material comprising a biodegradable thermoplastic polymer.
- Application no. US20050069836 relates to a dental filling material comprising a thermoplastic polymer.
- US20050066854 relates to a dental filling material comprising an inner core and, a layer of outer material surrounding the inner core and each of which comprises a thermoplastic polymer, surrounding both the inner core and the outer layer of the material.
- US20030235804 relates to the irrigation solution for the removal of the smear layer on tooth and bone surfaces prepared in endodontic environments, and methods of use of the same.
- Bonding the two materials together is an important function and unfortunately, in many areas, it is an issue that has not been completely successful.
- adhesive procedures are both the inevitable application stage in many disciplinary procedures, especially prosthetic and restorative procedures, and play a key role in the success of treatment.
- the root canal filling materials classified above do not have an ideal preparation that shows a high level of adhesive connection with basic filling materials such as cement tissue and gutta percha, that is, provides a tight seal in the root canal, has an active antibacterial effect for a long time after the root canal is filled, and also exhibits fibroblastic properties that increase tissue healing.
- possible blood leaks during treatment fill the dentin canals and cause the tooth to darken and change color over time. For this reason, searches, developments and various successive studies in the field are ongoing.
- the object of conventional root canal treatment is to remove microorganisms from the root canal system and seal it in order to prevent this from being re-contaminated. It is therefore necessary to provide a fluid-tight, robust sealing with the main filling material used, rubber gutta percha material and root canal filling paste. Root canal filling pastes are used to fill gaps between the root canal wall and the core material, and between the gutta percha cones.
- the present invention relates to a root canal filling paste including boron (B) that will eliminate many problems, especially with antibacterial properties, for a long time with controlled release to the basic chemical formula formed by alumina, zirconium, bioactive glass, composite and hydroxyapatite (HA) compounds.
- B boron
- HA hydroxyapatite
- Root canal treatment is a method used to treat severely infected teeth.
- Solid boron and boron compounds have a wide range of applications, from superhard materials and semiconductors to antiseptic, antiviral, antitumor, and antifungal biological compounds.
- boron is a unique pharmacophore in biologically active compounds. Boron in the form of boric acid has been used in eye baths with its antiseptic properties since the 18th century. In addition, it provides an advantage against biological receptors with its antibacterial property.
- sodium perborate NaB0 2 H 2 0 2.3 H 2 0
- NaB0 2 H 2 0 2.3 H 2 0 is an effective bleach as it is an active oxygen source. The bioactivity of boron doped hydroxyapatite was examined in-vitro and it was stated that HA samples containing B had higher apatite formation ability compared to those without B.
- Boron is an element with antimicrobial properties. It kills microorganisms, prevents the microorganism from forming a plaque on the surface and minimizes oxidative damage. More importantly, it acts in harmony with bone tissue. It is a preferred element in the cosmetics sector due to its softness, adhesiveness and durability properties. Thanks to these properties, it provides the adhesion of basic root canal filling materials called rubber-based gutta percha with cement, that is, dental tissue.
- osteoblastic property will contribute to the regeneration of dental tissue and inactivate bacterial involvement or leakage between the cavity, and the restoration that comes over it, which is one of the most important problems in filling restorations.
- the osteoblastic property of the boron will contribute to the regeneration of the dental tissue and inactivate the bacterial involvement or leakage between the cavity, and the restoration that comes over it, which is one of the most important problems in filling restorations. Thanks to the adhesive property of the same material, not only a compression-based mechanical but also a chemical adhesion will be provided between both the cement, that is, the tooth wall and the main filling material, gutta percha. In addition, most importantly, this filling paste, antibacterial property of which will continue by controlled release thanks to boron for a long time after the root canal treatment is terminated, will ensure the inactivation of both residual microorganisms and microorganisms that can infiltrate the area by leakage. Finally, with its bleaching property, will also prevent the blood released during the treatment and leaking into the dentin tubules from changing the natural color of the tooth thanks to the bleaching property of the boron.
- Boron compounds are used for heat shock resistance. Deterioration due to consuming hot and cold beverages after treatment will also be prevented by providing intracanal thermal insulation after treatment. Intraoral temperature change will not affect the treatment.
- root canal filling paste including boron presented in the invention with root canal filling materials has superior advantages. These advantages can be listed as follows: since they show disinfection effect in the root canals with their antibacterial activities, their long term effects through controlled release can continue after the root canal treatment is completed and the condition is stable, they also kill the microorganisms remaining in the root canal or in the bone tissue in the apical of the root canal in time, their superior mechanical properties fill the gap between the gutta percha and the dentin walls in accordance with other substances that make up the paste, ensure that the root canal is completely filled and sealed, they can be easily applied with the help of the fluidity created by the root canal filling paste, and since they show biocompatible activity that accelerates bone formation (thus, can also help dentin regeneration) they accelerate the periapical healing. Therefore, the inclusion of this material in the structure of root canal filling materials will help to solve the three above- mentioned technical problems encountered in the present products, especially the lack of antibacterial activity and the restriction of not being able to repair.
