Abstract
A printhead (21) for 3D printing of viscous printing materials, in particular biological materials for the fabrication of biological tissues and/or non-biological materials, comprising at least a reservoir (28) configured for containing pressurized printing material and body (27) coupled to said at least a reservoir (28) or comprising said at least a reservoir (28) and wherein inside at least an extruder (29) is arranged, comprising a first channel (30) obtained in said body (27), wherein said first channel (30) comprises a first end (30a) in fluidic connection with said at least a reservoir (28), a second end (30b) for the outflow of printing material, and a side opening (30c) between said first end (30a) and said second end (30b); a second channel (34) obtained in said body (27) and intersecting said first channel (30) at said side opening (30c); a piston (31), arranged, at least partially, in said second channel (34), with freedom to slide inside said second channel (34); and actuator means (32, 33) configured to act on said piston (31) so that it may transition, in use, from a first configuration, wherein a first portion of said piston (31) is inserted in said first channel (30), and a second portion of said piston (31) is arranged inside said second channel (34), so as to obstruct said first channel (30) and to block the transition of printing material towards said second end (30b), to a second configuration, wherein said piston (31) is entirely arranged in said second channel (34), so as to allow the printing material to transition from said reservoir (28) towards said second end (30b) of said first channel (30) and the subsequent outflow of printing material from said first channel (30).
