Description

Anti-slip high-visibility strip
The invention relates to an anti-slip high-visibility strip having a top surface and a body part that can be recessed into a mounting groove in a structure, wherein the strip comprises photoluminescent material with transparent material on top of it.
Publication DE 4300819 discloses an anti-slip high-visibility strip with an electroluminescence element requiring power to be supplied to the end of the strip. Furthermore, the strip disclosed is low and flat and difficult to hold in place in a mounting groove and difficult to mount to a mounting groove provided with rear cuts, as the strip must be bent to a convex shape about its longitudinal central axis for installation. The risk of tripping arises if the strip is even partially detached.
Publication US 2018209599 A1 discloses a lighting device to be recessed into a structure, having a separate LED light strip under a transparent surface lens. The underside of the surface lens has a phosphorus layer enhancing the color tone of the LED light (absorbing some of the blue light).
The aim of the invention is to provide an improved anti-slip high-visibility strip, wherein the strip comprised of transparent material and photoluminescent material can be produced in one production step.
This aim is achieved by means of the invention in that the transparent material is formed in a strip together with the photoluminescent material by means of an extruder, whereby the anti-slip high-visibility strip is structurally in one piece, in which the photoluminescent material is embedded within the transparent material as an integral part of the anti-slip high-visibility strip.
The strip of the invention is easy to manufacture, install and use. The strip may be manufactured by extrusion by feeding the photoluminescent material inside the transparent material in the form of a band or as granulates. The one-piece strip is easy to install and easy to use. The photoluminescent material does not require electricity to be supplied. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the body part has spaced apart legs with a V-shaped or U-shaped notch between them, and the outer edges of the legs have protruding gripping barbs for bringing the strip into engagement with the mounting groove.
Once recessed in the mounting groove, the strip remains firmly in place as the legs allow for the mounting groove to be deep, and the flexible legs enable installation by pressing the strip into the mounting groove, which may have rear cuts for the gripping barbs. Once installed, the legs of the strip are pressed firmly against the side walls of the mounting groove.
Next, the invention is described by way of an exemplary embodiment with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a cross-section of the anti-slip high-visibility strip according to the invention, and
Fig. 2 is an axonometric view of a small section of the strip according to Fig.
1.
The anti-slip high-visibility strip has a top surface 1 and a body part 2 that can be recessed into a mounting groove in a structure. The strip comprises photolumines- cent material 3 with transparent material on top of it. The strip is structurally in one piece and is comprised of flexible transparent material and photoluminescent material 3 embedded within the transparent material as an integral part of the transparent material.
The body part 2 has spaced apart legs 4 with a V-shaped or U-shaped notch 5 between them. The outer edges of the legs 4 preferably have protruding gripping barbs 6 with which the strip can be brought into engagement with the mounting groove. The mounting groove may be produced by milling and rear cuts for the gripping barbs 6 may be milled into the groove. The flexibility of the legs 4 and the notch 5 enable the strip to be installed and held firmly in place. The height of the strip, i.e. the distance between the top surface 1 and the bottoms of the legs 4, is preferably equal to or greater than the width of the body part 2 to be recessed into the mounting groove. This ratio between the height and the width allows the strip to be kept firmly in place in the mounting groove. The strip of the invention is particularly suitable for use in wood or composite wood structures.
The width of the photoluminescent material 3 is preferably from 3 to 10 mm. This allows for the strip to be small in width and its height relative to its width to be large enough for the strip to be mounted, for example, into the board of a stair tread, the thickness of which limits the depth of the mounting groove.
The top surface 1 of the strip has grooves and ridges extending in the longitudinal direction of the strip. The transparent material is a flexible and wear-resistant material, e.g. PVC plastic, formed into a strip by an extruder. The material may be any plastic or rubber compound that is flexible and transparent.
At both edges of the top surface 1 of the strip, there are flange-like widenings 7 adapted to remain on the surface of the structure. The photoluminescent material 3 is located at the level of undersides of the widenings 7 or at most 3 mm below said level. This allows the strip to be highly visible in the dark and to constitute both an anti-slip and a high-visibility strip even in the dark. The photoluminescent material may be colored, e.g. yellow or green, making it highly visible in both dark and light surroundings.
The height of the strip, i.e. the distance between the top surface 1 and the bottoms of the legs 4, is at most 15 mm, preferably at most 11 mm, typically from 9 to 10 mm. This allows the strip to be recessed into a mounting groove formed into a board of a stair tread, even though the height of the strip is greater than the width of the body part 2. The height of the body 2 is more than three times the thickness of the transparent material on top of the photoluminescent material 3.
