Description

HINGE DEVICE WITH SHOCK ABSORBER OPERATED BY A SWINGING ELEMENT
DESCRIPTION
TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to the technical field concerning hinges for furniture and household appliances, such as ovens, dishwashers and the like, and refers to a hinge device with shock absorber operated by a swinging element.
PRIOR ART
There are known hinges interconnected between a body, of a piece of furniture or household appliance, equipped with an opening and a door for closing the opening and provided with a shock absorber or damper, of the type provided with a cylindrical body and a rod axially and elastically pushed outward by a spring, where the cylindrical body and the respective fluid content act on a piston fixed to the internal end of the rod with a viscous force which opposes the translations of the rod. Said known hinges can be equipped with a projecting arm element which is moved by the door in the last degrees of closure thereof and which transmits such motion to the damper by compressing it so as to slow down the final closing rotation speed of the door. This protruding arm element can pose a risk to the hands and arms of a user intent on accessing the internal volume of the appliance, can damage objects entering or leaving the appliance and is itself subject to the risk of being damaged.
Some known hinges with damper are equipped with an arm element, protruding or not, of the translating type, sliding along guide elements and are subject to a greater risk of jamming, sliding irregularities or even blockages of the final closing rotation.
Prior document EP2284344 discloses a hinge in particular for electrical household appliances, comprising a first box-shaped body, a second box-shaped body, a connecting element between the box-shaped bodies and a damping cylinder for applying a damping effect on the second box-shaped body as the latter moves towards the first body.
Prior document WO2018041691 discloses a hinge device to damp the terminal portion of the closing stroke of a hatch or door of an appliance or piece of furniture. Said device comprises at least: a first rack means; a motion damping means; a kinematic transmission mechanism kinematically connecting the first rack means to the damping means; a first pinion means and a second rack means equipped with a connection means engaged to a mobile portion of the damping means to move it in the end portion of the closing stroke.
Prior art document US2008289144 discloses a hinge for wings or doors, in particular of electrical appliances, comprising a first box-shaped body, a second box-shaped body, a connecting element between the first and second bodies, and a damper cylinder for applying on the second body an action damping its movement towards the first body.
Prior document WO2019066332 discloses a home appliance provided with a damping assembly including a first lever installed in the main body of the appliance, the first lever being configured to be movable when the door of the appliance is pressed, a second lever connected to the first lever, and a cylinder connected to the second lever, the cylinder being configured to be movable in a direction that is parallel to a movement path of the first lever.
A further disadvantage of these known hinges, provided with damper, consists in the fact that they can be difficult to separate into two parts and to re-join together, as can happen, for example, in case of maintenance or cleaning.

BEST MODE TO CARRY OUT THE INVENTION
With reference to Figures 1-18, numeral 1 indicates the hinge device with shock absorber or damper operated by a swinging element comprising a first member 3 and a second member 5 whose proximal ends are mutually connected in a rotatable manner by means of a single hinge pivot pin 7, where in an operative condition the first member 3 is assigned to be fixed to a respective door or leaf of an appliance and the second member 5 is assigned to be fixed to a structure or frame of the appliance, or vice versa, for the rotation of the door between the closing and the complete opening of the appliance.
In the following the terms proximal and distal will be used in relation to the hinge pivot pin 7 distance: the one of two elements closest to the hinge pivot pin 7 will be indicated as proximal and the farthest one as distal.
The first member 3 comprises at least a first body 9, for example made of pressed metal sheet, sheared and bent in a "U" shape, having a general shape of an elongated parallelepiped with three longitudinal lateral faces and having a respective longitudinal geometric axis.
The proximal portion of the first body carries a seat for the hinge pivot pin 7.
The second member 5 comprises a second body 11 and a connection member 13. In said operating condition, in which the hinge device allows the opening and closing rotation of a door, the second member constitutes a rigid element connected in a non-movable way to the second body and to the connection member which is preferably of the releasable type and separable from the rest of the second member only to allow assembly and disassembly of the door from the respective appliance. The second body 11 can also be made of pressed metal sheet, sheared and bent in a "U" shape and has a general shape of an elongated parallelepiped with three longitudinal lateral faces and has a respective longitudinal geometric axis. One end of the connection member 13 is connected to the second body 11 and its 13 opposite end is provided with a seat for the hinge pivot pin 7.
The connection member 13 is rotatably connected by means of a swinging pin 15 to a median portion of a rocker arm element 17 having first 19 and second 21 ends assigned, at least in a final portion of about 5°-20° of the stroke of closure, to respectively match with a first matching member 23 fixed to the first body 9 and with a second matching member 25 movable along the second body 11 and in abutment with a damper 27 which is connected to the second body 11.
Preferably the damper 27 is of the elongated linear type with the respective longitudinal geometric axis parallel or almost parallel to the longitudinal axis of the second body 11.
During the rotation of the door in the final closing portion, the second end of the rocker arm element causes the translation of the second matching member and of the corresponding end of the damper which is compressed generating a reaction force that opposes the closure, slowing down its speed.
The rocker arm element 17 is shielded by the connection member 13 and does not protrude, or almost, from the latter and from the first and second bodies 9, 11, therefore the rocker arm element 17 remains protected and hidden and does not constitute a risk for things or people.
The invention provides that the connection member 13 can be locked to the second body 11 or in a single body with it or, preferably and as shown in the figures, the connection member 13 is fixed to the second body 11 with a removable interlocking able to provide mutual locking without relative movements in the operating condition.
The device comprises a housing 29, for example made of plastic or other synthetic or metallic material, with an elongated internal seat assigned to accommodate, in a freely sliding manner, the damper 27, locking its distal end and allowing the proximal end to slide which abuts with a support 31 sliding with such end in the internal seat of the housing 29.
The housing 29 has a general shape of an approximately elongated parallelepiped and its internal hollow seat is longitudinally oriented and has a shape, for example cylindrical, complementary to that of the damper; the transversal dimensions of the internal hollow seat are slightly higher than the transversal dimensions of the damper to allow easy insertion and sliding of the latter.
The second body 11 has an opening 30 to accommodate the portion of the housing 29 which contains the hollow seat for the damper.
Such opening 30 is made through the longitudinal, lateral and mutually parallel faces of the second body and is sized to accommodate the housing which is provided with a flange with holes for rivets, nails or the like for fixing to the second body, alternatively the housing can be interlocked to the opening 30.
The distal end of the damper 27 is blocked by a terminal stop of the housing 29 or preferably as shown in figures 15 and 16 by interference with the edges of the opening 30 for the housing 29 which contains the hollow seat for the damper.
The portion of the support 31 opposite the damper 27 carries the second matching member 25 consisting of a pin or rolling means with an axis of rotation parallel to that of the swinging pin 15. Such second matching member is assigned to meet with the second end 21 of the rocker arm element 17.
The second end 21 has a cam profile for the second matching member 25, this profile is shaped so that its contact points with the second matching member 25 are placed at a distance from the hinge pivot pin 7 increasing with the rotation of the rocker arm element 17 due to the terminal closing rotation of the first member 3 of the device.
The first matching member 23 consists of a pin or preferably and as illustrated in Figure 2, in a rolling means with an axis of rotation parallel to that of the swinging pin 15.
Such first matching member is fixed to the proximal portion of the first body 9.
The first end 19 of the rocker arm element 17 has a cam profile for the first matching member 23 which is shaped, preferably in a curvilinear way, so as to cause, during the terminal closing rotation of the first body 9 of the device, the swinging of the rocker arm element 17 in the direction of approach of its second end 21 towards the distal end of the damper 27.
The first and second matching members 23, 25 preferably consist of roller or bushing rolling means mounted on corresponding first and second axes.
The ends of the first axis of the first matching member are fixed to the sides of the first body 9 and have lateral spacers for adjusting the respective rolling means, the ends of the second axis of the second matching member are mounted on respective projections of a fork portion of the support 31.
The rocker arm element 17, for example in cut or sheared and perforated metal sheet, is shaped approximately as an open "L" or with the arms forming an interposed obtuse angle.
The longer arm of the "L" shaped rocker arm element carries the first end 19 and the shorter arm carries the second end 21. The swinging pin 15 is placed in the long arm at an average distance from the first end 19 between one twentieth and a half of the average distance from the second end 21. Consequently, the rocker arm element, seen from the first matching member 23 which operates it, is an adverse lever and small movements of the first end correspond to proportionally greater movements of the second end. It is therefore possible, by acting on the shape of the cam profiles and on the position of the swinging pin 15 in the rocker arm element 17, to adjust the law of motion of the support 31 as a function of the opening angle of the device and in particular it is possible to adjust the device so that to a few degrees of the terminal portion of the closing stroke correspond a translation of the support 31 equal or almost equal to the entire useful stroke of the damper rod.
The connection member 13 includes two shaped plates, for example in cut and perforated metal sheet almost equal and facing each other and between which the rocker arm element 17 swings; furthermore, the shape and size of the two plates of the connection member 13 are such as to hide the portion of the rocker arm element 17 between the first and second bodies 9, 11. In this way the rocker arm element is almost totally inaccessible to things and to users of the appliance on which the device is installed. Furthermore, with the same weight, this solution provides greater rigidity than the construction of the connection member 13 from a single plate.
As seen, the connection member 13 is preferably fixed in a removable interlocking manner to the second body 11 and, for this purpose, the invention provides that the two plates of the connection member comprise respective coupling portions 35 assigned to enter the second body 11 through a window 37 made in a median longitudinal face of the second body 11 and to match through respective hollow perimeter seats a suitable stop 12 consisting for example of a transverse pin whose ends are fixed to two parallel longitudinal faces of the second body.
These portions 35 of the connection member plates have respective housings 39, for example consisting of notches or recesses, for a hooking edge of the window 37; said portions 35 are also provided with a lock means 41, for example in the shape of a U-bolt or fork, pivotally and transversely pivoted to said plates.
The lock means 41 is assigned to meet a portion of the window opposite to said hooking edge thereof to rigidly and removably lock the connection member 13 to the second body 11 in the operative condition.
Preferably and as illustrated in the accompanying figures, the lock means 41 is hinged to the two plates of the connection member 13 by means of the swinging pin 15 of the rocker arm element 17 and the ends of this pin 15 are engaged in respective seats of the plates and of the ends of the lock means. Referring now in particular to Figures 2 and 12, the plates of the connection member 13 and the rocker arm element 17 are shaped in such a way that when the connection member 13 is positioned and oriented for approaching and coupling with the second body 11 and the first member is inclined with respect to the connection member 13 in a manner corresponding to an opening angle of the hinge greater than about 10° - 15°, the rocker arm element 17 is kept by gravity in a position in which its distal portion rests on a transversal stop of the plates and in which it protrudes from the profile of the plates only or almost only in proximity of the housings 39 for the hooking edge of the window, facilitating the assembly of the door having the first body 9 with the structure of the appliance having the second body 11.
The variant of the device comprising the housing 29 of figures 19-25 involves constructive and assembly simplifications.
In this variant too the opening 30 is made through the longitudinal, lateral and mutually parallel faces of the second body 11 but its 30 longitudinal extension is sized at least to allow the housing 29 to slide along its longitudinal edges, allowing it an approximately equal stroke to the excursion of the movable rod of the damper 27, in this way the housing 29 is connected to the opening 30 in a freely sliding way in the longitudinal direction along the longitudinal sides of the opening 30.
The proximal end of the damper 27 meets with a terminal stop or the bottom of the proximal end of the internal seat of the housing 29. The distal portion of the damper 27 protrudes from this seat and meets a transverse and distal edge of the opening 30 or a shoulder obtained in or fixed to the second body 11. The proximal end of the housing 29 is fork-shaped or is shaped as a side arm for supporting the two ends, or one of them, of a pin consisting of or having the second matching member 25 of the rolling means type. The axis of rotation of the second matching member 25 is parallel to that of the swinging pin 15. Obviously, in this variant too the second matching member 25 is assigned to meet with the second end 21 of the rocker arm element 17. Each lateral face of the housing 29 has respective longitudinal and lateral fins 32, 34 assigned to constrain the housing 29 to slide along the longitudinal edges of the opening 30 without allowing the housing 29 to disengage from the opening 30. The housing is subject to mainly longitudinal stresses and movements and this allows using or manufacturing fins with relatively small transverse dimensions.
The longitudinal fins 34 of one of the two lateral faces of the housing 29 are of the interlocking, hooking, harpoon or similar type, for the interlocking connection of the housing to the opening 30 and for free mutual sliding.
This variant does not require the use of the sliding support 31 and rivets, nails or the like for fixing the housing to the second body but the operation is almost the same as the previous embodiment. It should be noted that the second body 11 can be provided with a single window suitable for both of the shapes described above of the housing which can therefore be chosen from time to time according to the needs and requirements.
Obviously, and as shown in the figures, the device and its variant can be provided with elastic elements for balancing the weight of the door, with means for providing an elastic compression force of the sealing gaskets of the appliance, with brakes and sliding friction stops, etc.
