Abstract
A system for online learning and online examination in a safe and protected manner using a virtual reality headset that does not allow any data exchange with the outside world. The latter only works after verifying the iris fingerprint and connecting via the Internet to a server of an educational organization, with no possibility of browsing or watching anything with it except what is authorized by the educational organization.
Description
Title of the invention:
System for remote online learning and examinations that's based on virtual reality Background of the invention:
There is an increased tendency around the world towards developing online learning since it may solve many educational problems, especially that are related to the difficulties and the cost of students travel in order to attain good education, this in many times requires a new residence apart of the family, and also there is a risk of some contagious diseases in the traditional learning. Moreover the online learning if accompanied with good technology and high speed internet may offer excellent possibilities that may be unavailable by traditional learning.
The introduction of virtual reality technology has recently allowed many novel educational implements such as using flying simulator for students of flying, this will allow the student to enter the cockpit virtually and see its components and see how the pilot deals with the apparatuses and how to drive the airplane in the space.
But unfortunately there are many problems that restrict the progression of online learning, one of the most important problem is the difficulty of protecting the intellectual property of the educational organization since it's very difficult to protect the online educational materials, and such materials may become available for any subject or any organization especially in countries where intellectual properties are not very respected. The other important regarding problem is the absence of reliable manner for doing online examinations for students without the need for examination hall and observers, even if the exam has consequent questions in the way that the student has no time for opening any electronic or paper reference, there may be another person who may help the student during the exam, and subsequently such examination can't be confidential.
Detailed Description of the Invention:
The disclosure is a system that employs the technology of virtual reality (VR) for getting an online learning materials in a 3D environment that are completely protected from reproducing, and moreover no one can view these materials without authorization. This system also offers the opportunity for doing examinations in the student's home or in any place he wants without any possibility for cheating or getting illegal help from others.
The system depends on the virtual reality headset in the commercially available style, but the screen must be integrated into the device and also the device must contain an internal infrared camera monitoring the user's eye and checking the iris fingerprint, this camera can be located in an upper or lower groove on the screen on one side (facing the right or left eye) or there may be two cameras, one on each side, also there should be a built-in microphone and built-in headphones. All of these components do not represent a disclosure, they are available commercially, but what is new is the system and the way the device will work, when wearing it, the device will verify the iris fingerprint and then it will directly contact the server of the educational organization to show the lectures or materials that the student is authorized to view without the device having any out port or any possibility to transfer Images, sound or data except for the single user and exclusively during the period of use.
The device will not show anything except what is allowed by the educational organization which granted the device and through its own server only, and the device will stop working automatically when it is removed. Thus, the device will accurately monitor what the student attends in terms of lectures and scientific sessions, and even his participation in discussions and questions, and moreover the
time he spent reviewing what is available in the library of the educational organisation in terms of books, references and movies .. all of this without any possibility of copying or hacking, whether for lectures or educational references.
Continuous imaging of the user's eyes will allow the ability to analyse the images or movies by a special software to assess the degree of student attention during the course of the lecture, as well as to alert him in case of drowsiness or sleep and lack of eye blinking due to excessive attention in order to preserve the eye's health. Moreover, collecting information about the attention of all students during each lecture can give important data for the lecturer about the parts of the lecture that were attractive to the students, and the parts that were boring, it can also help the administration of the educational institution in evaluating the performance of the lecturers.
Also, this system will enable the educational organization to conduct examinations remotely, smoothly and with complete safety, as during the exam the student will not be able to see anything outside the virtual reality headset he wears, and he will not be allowed to remove it during the course of the exam, and anyone sitting beside him will not be able to know the questions that are presented on the screen in front of him, it will not be allowed for the student to speak or read questions during the exam, and the built-in microphone of the device will monitor any talk going on, and the device can periodically make a certain sound during the exam to be picked up by the microphone and thus it can verify that the microphone works well and there is nothing to cover it or obstruct its work.
For avoiding connection problems, the examination can be uploaded to the device shortly before the time of the exam.
The device needs a mouse and a keyboard, and they can be connected to the device in a wired manner or wirelessly. In order to achieve a good typing ability without seeing the keyboard, the keys can have a two-stage press, where the response to the first stage (light pressure) is only a temporarily projection of the magnified letter (or name of the key) on the screen in front of the user's eyes, but the real response to the key press does not occur until the second stage when the key is completely pressed, in this manner the user will be able to type in a good speed, but when he suspects the key, he will press it partially to verify it and then continue the pressure if the key is correct or raise his finger if the key was wrong in order to go to the right key. The alternative solution to this mechanism is the digital keypad on the screen and thus its buttons will be pressed by the mouse pointer.
The benefit of this system may not be limited to online learning and examinations, but can be extended to any transactions that require secure communication between a certain institution and a certain person after reliable verification of the identity of the person, such as banking transactions, getting official documents and electronic voting.
Claims
1. A system for online learning and online examinations by using a virtual reality headset connected to a server of the educational organization via Internet and it does not work unless it was communicating with this server and it cannot open or browse any files or data except through this server, and it does not contain any type of outputs that allows any exchange of data, The screen in it is built-in and cannot be removed, and it contains an internal camera to monitor one of the user's eyes and check the iris fingerprint (or two cameras one for each eye), It also contains built-in headphones, a built-in microphone, a mouse and a keyboard that are wired or wirelessly connected. The system is based on verifying the user's iris fingerprint and then allowing the connection to the server and access to the lectures and the allowed resources, and thus the user will not be able to share the device with any other person who is not authorized by the educational organization, nor will he be able to copy or transfer the data or anything that is shown on the screen by any means. This device will also allow online examinations anywhere the student wants, and the student will not be able to cheat, as he will not be allowed to remove the device during the course of the exam, nor will he be allowed to speak or read the questions by any hearable sound, and the presence of the microphone will allow transmitting and recording everything he says during the exam.
