Description

METHOD FOR PRODUCT MAPPING
Technical Field
The present invention relates to a method for product mapping.
Background Art
A variety of methods for product mapping used to trace one or more products, such as e.g. commercial products, inside an environment are known.
In particular, the methods of known type provide for the use of at least one database to store information about one or more products, such as e.g. the type of a product and the location thereof, with the goal of digitizing inventory.
In this way, the methods of known type allow the desired information to be traced inside the database easily, simply and quickly.
These systems do however have some drawbacks.
In particular, this type of method involves long and complicated operations of digitizing the information relating to the products in the inventory to create the database to be consulted later. For example, it is particularly complicated to attribute to each product to be mapped one or more pieces of information relating to the positioning of such a product inside a display area.
Furthermore, after the desired information has been obtained through database consultation, such as e.g. the location of a particular product, it is not always easy to trace the product inside a medium to large display area.
In addition, the information contained inside the database is only available to the entity creating the database, thus preventing third parties, such as e.g. any possible buyers, from verifying whether a particular product is present in the inventory and/or the location thereof inside the display area.
These drawbacks make the use of the methods of known type complicated and inconvenient.
Description of the Invention
The main aim of the present invention is to devise a method for product mapping which allows acquiring the location of the products to be mapped in a simple, easy and quick manner.
An additional object of the present invention is to devise a method for product mapping which allows sharing the location of the products in the display area with a plurality of users interested in tracing one or more products.
An additional object of the present invention is to devise a method for product mapping which allows facilitating the tracing of the products in the display area. Another object of the present invention is to devise a method for product mapping which will overcome the aforementioned drawbacks of the prior art within a simple, rational, easy and effective to use as well as affordable solution.
The aforementioned objects are achieved by the present method for product mapping having the characteristics of claim 1.
The aforementioned objects are achieved by the present system for product mapping having the characteristics of claim 10.
Brief Description of the Drawings
Other characteristics and advantages of the present invention will become more apparent from the description of a preferred, but not exclusive, embodiment of a method for product mapping, illustrated by way of an indicative, yet nonlimiting example, in the accompanying tables of drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a schematic view of the acquisition phase according to the invention; Figure 2 is a schematic view of the tracing phase according to the invention;
Figure 3 is a schematic view of an alternative embodiment of the tracing phase according to the invention.

The method for product mapping comprises at least the phases of: supply of a plurality of products 1 displayed for sale distributed inside a display area 2; acquisition of images of the displayed products 1 ; attribution to the acquired image of each product 1 of at least one position datum defining the location of the same inside the display area 2; tracing of at least one of the displayed products 1 depending on the attributed position datum.
The term “displayed products” means any type of products exposed to the view of one or more possible observers, e.g. such as shown in Figure 1 where a plurality of products 1 are displayed on appropriate shelving.
Advantageously, the phase of acquisition comprises a step of continuously exposure of the displayed products 1 to image acquisition means 3 configured to continuously acquire the images of the products 1 when the step of exposure is carried out.
Specifically, the acquisition means 3 are configured to frame one or more products in continuity, acquiring the image thereof.
Preferably, the acquisition means 3 are of the type of an electronic image acquisition device, such as a PC, smartphone, tablet, and the like.
In particular, the step of exposure comprises framing in motion the products 1 on display through the acquisition means 3, used, e.g., by a skilled operator and/or a motorized automatic driven vehicle or the like.
Conveniently, the phase of acquisition comprises a step of recognizing the acquired images of the displayed products 1.
In addition, the phase of attribution involves attributing at least one position datum to the recognized images of the displayed products 1.
Advantageously, the phase of recognition is carried out by means of image recognition means 4.
Preferably, the image recognition means 4 coincide with the acquisition means 3, however, further embodiments of the method cannot be ruled out wherein the image recognition means 4 be, e.g., of the type of a PC, PLC, microcontroller and the like, separate from the acquisition means 3, and are operatively connected to the latter.
Preferably, the phase of attribution is carried out by means of identification means 5 of the position of the displayed products 1 of which at least one image is acquired by the acquisition means 3, in this case of the displayed products 1 framed by the acquisition means 3.
Conveniently, the method comprises at least one phase of providing a file of digital images of the displayed products 1.
In addition, the step of recognition comprises a step of comparison of the acquired images with the stored images.
In this way, the acquired images of the products 1 are recognized during the step of recognition when compared with substantially identical stored images.
The identification means 5, in fact, are configured to identify the location of each product framed by the acquisition means 3 and recognized by the step of comparison.
Preferably, the identification means 5 are of the type of electronic location devices, such as e.g. GPS and the like.
In addition, the phase of attribution is carried out by means of attribution means 6 configured to logically associate with the image of each displayed (recognized) product 1 at least one corresponding position datum.
Preferably, the identification means 5 and the attribution means 6 coincide with the acquisition means 3.
Further embodiments of the method cannot however be ruled out, wherein the identification means 5 and the attribution means 6 be separate from the acquisition means 3, e.g. of the type of electronic data processing devices, such as e.g. a PC, microcontroller, PLC or the like, operatively connected to the acquisition means 3.
Advantageously, the phase of tracing comprises at least one step of indicating at least one product 1 to be traced.
Preferably, the step of indicating is carried out by means of interface means 7 configured to allow a user to indicate one or more special displayed products 1 to be traced in the display area 2.
In addition, the step of indication involves indicating the searched product by indicating its image in the file.
In particular, the interface means 7 are configured to show the user images of the displayed products 1 contained in the file.
Preferably, the phase of supplying the file comprises a step of storing the images acquired during the phase of acquisition.
In other words, during the execution of the phase of acquisition, the acquired images are saved in order to make the file. Preferably, the phase of supplying the file is carried out by the acquisition means 3, however, further embodiments of the method cannot be ruled out wherein the supplying phase is carried out by means separate from the acquisition means 3, such as e.g. data processing and storage means, such as e.g. a PC, microcontroller, PLC and the like.
Conveniently, the method comprises at least one phase of creating a digital map 8 of the mutual position of the displayed products 1 depending on the location data.
In this way, the phase of tracing comprises a step of consulting the digital map 8 involving the display of the latter on digital playback means 9.
Preferably, the digital playback means 9 coincide with the interface means 7, further embodiments of the method wherein the playback means 9 are separate from the interface means 7, such as a PC, smartphone, tablet, and the like, cannot however be ruled out.
