Detailed Description
[0042] Various apparatuses or processes will be described below to provide an example of each claimed embodiment. No embodiment described below limits any claimed embodiment and any claimed embodiment may cover processes or apparatuses that differ from those described below. The claimed embodiments are not limited to apparatuses or processes having all of the features of any one apparatus or process described below or to features common to multiple or all of the apparatuses described below.
[0043] Referring to Figure. 1 A, illustrated therein is a front view of an anti-theft bag 100 in a closed configuration according to one embodiment. Anti-theft bag 100 is shown in Figures 1A-11. Anti-theft bag 100 includes body 102 comprising a first surface 104 and a main compartment which is disposed behind first surface 104. The main compartment includes an extended neck 106 through which items can be placed into the main compartment.
[0044] The first surface 104 has a first engagement member 108 of a locking mechanism disposed thereon. In the embodiment of Figures 1 A-11, the first engagement member 108 is an opening within the material of the first surface 104. The opening 108 is surrounded by a frame 110 which provides strength and reinforcement to the opening 108. The frame may be composed of metal or another strong material which prevents damage to the opening whether that damage be normal wear and tear or intentional damage. The frame 110 also acts to limit the size of opening 108 as the frame 110.
[0045] In other embodiments the opening may be reinforced by anti-cut materials or by other means of secure reinforcement.
[0046] In the embodiment of Figures 1A-11, the anti-theft bag 100 comprises a first pocket behind the first surface wherein opening 108 provides access to the first pocket through the first surface and wherein the first pocket has an opening at the top (relative to the top of the bag 100). In the embodiment of Figures 1A-11 the first pocket is on the front of the bag 100. The main compartment is behind the first pocket. In some embodiment the main compartment is directly behind the first pocket, in other embodiment there may be additional compartments between the first pocket and the main compartment.
[0047] The anti-theft bag 100 of Figure 1A also comprises a strap including a first strap portion 112 and a second strap portion 114. The first strap portion 112 and the second strap portion 114 can be reversibly connected by a strap buckle 116 and the length of strap may be adjusted by feeding more or less of the second strap portion 114 through an adjustment member 118. When the first strap portion 112 and the second strap portion 114 are connected by strap buckle 116 a user can use the strap to wear the anti-theft bag on their person. Figure 2 shows wherein the strap can be used to engage the anti-theft bag to a fixed object to prevent theft (discussed below).
[0048] In Figure 1A, anti-theft bag 100 is in an open configuration. Figure 1 B shows a front view of anti-theft bag 100 in a closed configuration.
[0049] The extended neck 106 of the main compartment is foldable towards the first surface 104. On an outer surface of the extended neck 106 is disposed a second engagement member 120 of the locking mechanism such that when the extended neck 106 is folded over towards the first surface 104, the second engagement member 120 is at the front of bag 100. In Figure 1A, the second engagement member is positioned at the rear of the bag because the extended neck 106 has not been folded. Folded extended neck 106 is inserted into the first pocket of bag 100 such that folded extended neck 106 is positioned behind the first surface 104. The second engagement member 120 is inserted through opening 108 of the first surface 104.
[0050] In the embodiment of Figures 1 A-11, the second engagement member 120 is a loop buckle which is inserted through the opening 108. In the embodiment of bag 100, the loop buckle, including a u-shaped ring (loop) and a base plate, comprises one solid piece of metal. In other embodiments, the loop buckle may comprise a hinge attaching a loop to a base plate. However, unless the hinge is impossible to remove, a loop buckle with no hinge is preferred as the hinge may be vulnerable to wear and tear or could be exploited by a person hoping to steal contents of the bag. In yet other embodiment, the loop buckle may comprise any solid and secure piece of material, or two pieces of metal or other secure materials that are riveted together or secured by other means of bonding together.
[0051] Figure 1 C is a front view of an anti-theft bag 100 in a closed and locked configuration according to one embodiment. To secure the bag 100 in a closed configuration wherein the main compartment is inaccessible a locking member 124 is engaged with the locking mechanism 122 (locking mechanism 122 comprises the first engagement member 108 as called out in Figures 1A and 1 B and the second engagement member 120 as called out in Figure 1 B). In the embodiment of Figures 1 A-11, wherein the first engagement member is an opening and the second engagement member is a loop buckle, the locking member 124 is inserted through the loop buckle to prevent the loop buckle from being un-inserted through the opening and allowing the main compartment to be accessed. In Figure 1 C the locking member 124 is a padlock.
[0052] In other embodiments, the locking member 124 may be any type of lock or other means which engages with a first engagement member and a second engagement member to enable the user to control when the bag is accessible or inaccessible.
[0053] In other embodiments, the first engagement member and the second engagement member may reversibly lock together without a locking member.
[0054] In other embodiments, the locking mechanism may not be an opening and loop buckle system but the locking mechanism may still require a locking member to reversibly lock the locking mechanism. [0055] In all embodiments, when the bag is reversibly locked either by directly locking the first engagement member to the second engagement member or by indirectly locking the first engagement member to the second engagement member with a locking member, the contents of the main compartment of the bag cannot be removed without the permission of the user/owner of the bag.
[0056] When the first engagement member is an opening, the opening is sized to not allow the locking member to pass through the opening. When the opening has a frame, the frame is sized to not allow the locking member to pass through the opening.
[0057] At least some of the material of the anti-theft bag 100 may be anti-cut material. In particular, the material of the main compartment, including the extended neck, and the material of the first pocket (in embodiments with a first pocket) would preferably be made of an anti-cut material to prevent access to the main compartment either directly or by cutting the first surface to release the second engagement member from the first engagement member by widening the opening.
[0058] Figure 1 D is a rear view of an anti-theft bag 100 in an open configuration according to one embodiment. The rear view of anti-theft bag 100 in an open configuration shows the location of the second engagement member 120 on the extended neck 106 of the main compartment. The first strap portion 112, second strap portion 114, strap buckle 116, and adjustment member 118 are also shown.
[0059] Anti-theft bag 100 has a rear pocket 126 which is accessible even when the locking mechanism is engaged. In Figure 1 D, the rear pocket 126 has a zipper which closes the pocket and a flap which folds down to cover the zipper. In other embodiments, the rear pocket may close by other means of closure, e.g., a flap which engages with magnets to securely close, or may be open at the top.
[0060] Figure 1 E is a rear view of an anti-theft bag 100 in a closed configuration according to one embodiment. In Figure 1 E, the extended neck 106 of the main compartment has been folded down towards the first surface on the front of the bag 100. The extended neck 106 may be inserted into the first pocket as shown in Figure 1 B and may be locked with a locking member as shown in Figure 1 C. [0061] Figure 1 F is a bottom view of an anti-theft bag 100 according to one embodiment. The main compartment of the bag 100 has a bottom 128. The bottom 128 of bag 100 is expandable to increase the volume of the main compartment to allow more objects to be placed within the main compartment. Two bottom straps 130 are disposed on the bottom 128. In other embodiments, there may be more or less straps. The bottom straps 130 are operable to control expansion of the bottom 128 of the main compartment. The bottom straps may also be operable to hold an item between the straps and the bottom of the bag, e.g., an umbrella, a coat, a tripod, etc. In anti-theft bag 100, each bottom strap 130 comprises a material connected to a hook mechanism which is engageable to a loop disposed across a width of the bottom 128 of the main compartment. When the hook is engaged to the loop the bottom 128 is not expanded. When the hook is disengaged from the loop the bottom 128 can be expanded. Additionally, each strap 130 may be adjustable in length to allow for expansion of the bottom 128 of the bag or to securely hold an item, as described above, between the bottom 128 and the bottom straps 130.
[0062] In other embodiments, the bottom straps may comprise two pieces connect by a bottom strap buckle wherein disconnecting the bottom strap buckle allows the expansion of the bottom 128.
[0063] In other embodiments, the bottom of the bag is flat (either rigid or soft) and the main compartment is not expandable. In such an embodiment, there may or may not be bottom straps. In such an embodiment, bottom straps may still be used to hold an item, e.g., an umbrella, a coat, a tripod, at the bottom of the bag.
[0064] Figure 1 G is a bottom view of an anti-theft bag 100 according to one embodiment. The view of Figure 1 G provides more context for the location of the strap components relative to the other elements of the bag 100. In figure 1 G, the strap is at the rear of the bag 100 (the side opposite the first surface). The first strap portion 112 and the second strap portion 114 are connected by the strap buckle 116. The view of Figure 1 G shows the engagement of the second strap portion 114 with the adjustment member 118. A length of the second strap portion 114 can be adjusted by feeding more or less of the second strap portion 114 through the adjustment member. The second strap portion 114 includes a grommet 132 as a strap engagement member for engaging with the locking mechanism of the bag 100 (either directly or indirectly through a locking member) when securing the bag 100 to a fixed object. Figure 2 shows wherein the strap can be used to engage the anti-theft bag to a fixed object to prevent theft (discussed below). In other embodiments there may be more than one grommet on the second strap portion for engaging with the locking mechanism.
[0065] In other embodiments, the strap engagement member may comprise other means to engage the strap with the locking mechanism. For example, the strap may include a loop which can engage with the locking mechanism (or a locking member).
[0066] In other embodiments the strap may comprise a single strap portion which attaches to an attachment member on the bag. For example, a first part of the strap buckle may be directly attached to the anti-theft bag instead of to a second strap portion.
[0067] Figure 1 H is a side view of an anti-theft bag 100 in an open configuration according to one embodiment.
