Abstract
The invention relates to containers and is intended for the transportation and long-term storage of spent nuclear fuel in the form of spent fuel assemblies. A container for transporting and storing spent nuclear fuel comprises a metal housing with a lower coaming having a bottom fastened thereto, concentric cylindrical shells that form cavities, and an upper coaming having an outer lid and an inner lid fastened thereto. Both of the coamings are provided with a valve for cooling, purging, drying and evacuating the inner cavity of the container. The coamings have trunnions with removable sleeves for tilting the container. Neutron shield blocks are provided with longitudinal trapezoidal channels. Gamma shield liners are made of carbon steel. Each longitudinal rib is shaped in the form of a wedge and is made of stainless steel. One of the edges of the sealing elements of the valves of the upper and lower coamings is made of a heat and radiation resistant rubber mix, and the other edge is made of thermally expanded graphite. The invention makes it possible to expand the functional purpose of the container, allowing the use thereof for both transportation and long-term storage of spent fuel.
