Description
DESCRIPTION
MODULAR PANEL SYSTEM
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is enclosed in the field of modular structures. In particular, the present invention relates to modular panel structures.
PRIOR ART
Pre-engineered, modular panel concept offers many important advantages over other approaches being more economical, easier to implement, requires less time, minimizes manpower requirements and can offer significant flexibility. Modular panel structures are constructed of mix-and-match panels that are assembled on site, allowing to quickly and economically create rooms, divide spaces and define areas.
The assembly of such structures requires the customization of fixing rails and its prior installation in base frames that define a supporting structure. The fixing rails are responsible to fix the modular panels in place, and the stability of the entire modular structure is then given by the base frames where the fixing rails are installed.
Due to this fact, the process of assembly and disassembly of modular structures is more demanding and presents a high risk of damaging the materials constituting either the panels, the fixing rails or the base frames.
The present solution intended to innovatively overcome such issues, providing an easy way to assembly and disassemble modular structures.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
It is therefore an object of the present invention a modular panel system projected to facilitate the process of assembling and disassembling panel modules, and their installation in the supporting structures.
The invention is based on a locking concept that interrelates supporting structures and the panel modules constituting the modular panel system. Particularly, in an advantageous configuration of the modular panel system developed, it may be comprised by at least one supporting structure, each one comprising at least one engagement segment. Said engagement segment has an engagement profile which is disposed throughout the length of the supporting structure's surface. In its turn, each panel module of the system has an engagement section disposed in at least one lateral edge of the panel module. Said engagement section comprises at least two engagement segments, arranged at an upper and a lower end of the lateral edge of the panel module, wherein the engagement segment of a panel module is adapted to be coupled to an engagement segment of an adjoining panel module. The system also comprises a locking mechanism. Said mechanism is formed by at least one locking arrangement comprising an engagement segment with an engagement profile adapted to be coupled to the engagement segment of a supporting structure, thereby fixing the locking arrangement to a supporting structure. The locking arrangement comprises a first locking element and a second locking element, being both elements projected to engage in one another forming a rail section adapted to the insertion of a panel module. The locking mechanism also comprises a locking peg which is configured to be inserted in between engagement segments of two adjoining panels.
Such technical features and structural arrangements provide a quick and safe engagement between all the elements making up the modular panel system developed, which therefore provides:
— Reduction of assembly and disassembly time;
— Ease in the assembly and disassembly processes, ensuring the stability of the structures and safety in their use;
— Reduction of the technical means required in the assembly and disassembly processes;

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
The more general and advantageous configurations of the present invention are described in the Summary of the invention. Such configurations are detailed below in accordance with other advantageous and/or preferred embodiments of implementation of the present invention.
In a preferred aspect of the modular panel system of the present invention, it is comprised by at least one supporting structure (3). Said element (3) has the function of defining the structural dimension and configuration of the infrastructure to be constructed. For that purpose, a supporting structure (3) might have different sizes, lengths and shapes, depending on the particularities of each infrastructure. For
example, as represented in figure 7, the modular panel system of the invention may be comprised by three supporting structures (3), wherein one supporting structure (3) is disposed parallel to a ground, defining a horizontal length, and the other two supporting structures (3) are disposed perpendicularly to said ground, on the far ends of the horizontal supporting structure (3), defining a vertical length. In that way an infrastructure is built where the locking arrangements (14) - one for each supporting structure (3) - are installed for the purpose of fixing the end panels (1), thereby building a modular wall. Notwithstanding, and for the purpose of providing a proper connection to the locking mechanism, a supporting structure (3) is comprised by at least one engagement segment (4), with an engagement profile, disposed throughout the entire length of the supporting structure's surface. In one embodiment, as illustrated in figure 6, the supporting structure (3) has a parallelepiped form having an engagement segment in between two consecutive faces.
Yet in a preferred aspect of the modular panel system of the present invention, it is comprised by a plurality of panel modules (1). Each panel module (1) can be of a different type of materials, such as wood, PVC or aluminium, being typically of a rectangular shape, and thereby being formed by four lateral edges. On at least one lateral edge of a panel module (1) an engagement section is formed, being comprised by at least two engagement segments (2) which are arranged at an upper and a lower end of a lateral edge. The engagement segments (2) of a modular panel (1) are adapted to be coupled to an engagement segment (2) of an adjoining panel module (1), ensuring the proper and safe assembly between two consecutive panel modules (1).
Yet in a preferred aspect of the modular panel system of the present invention, it is comprised by a locking mechanism. Said locking mechanism comprises at least one locking arrangement (14), having an engagement segment (5) with an engagement profile adapted to be coupled to the engagement segment (4) of a supporting structure (3). Preferentially, there is a locking arrangement (14) for each supporting structure (1). In this way, the locking arrangement (14) is installed in the
supporting structured (3), being fixed to it. The locking arrangement (14) is comprised by a first (6) and a second (7) locking elements. Both elements are projected to engage in one another for the purpose of forming a rail section (8) adapted to the insertion of a lateral edge of a panel module (1). By means of this structural arrangement, the sequence of panel modules (1), engaged in one another through the connection of the respective engagement segments (2), are hold in a stable and safe vertical position, where the lateral edge of the panel modules (1) are inserted in the rail section (8) provided by the locking mechanism which, in its turn, is fixed to a supporting structure (3). The connections between the different elements of the system are provided without the need for screws or additional elements.
Additionally, and yet in a preferred aspect of the modular panel system of the present invention, the locking mechanism also comprises at least on locking peg (9). This element (9) is used to ensure the correct engagement and fixation between two adjoining panel modules (1), being configured to be inserted between engagement segments (2) of the referred panel modules (1).
In an alternative aspect of the modular panel system of the present invention, the engagement segments (2) of the lateral edge of a panel module (1), of the supporting structure (3) and of the locking arrangement (14) have a hook-shaped tubular profile. In one embodiment, the hook-shaped tubular's profile of the engagement segments (2) of a lateral edge of a panel module (2) comprises recesses forming a non-regular coupling profile. Due to that non-regular coupling profile, which can have multiple recesses, the connection between adjoining panels may allow certain angular variations. In an alternative embodiment, as illustrated in figure 2, a non-regular coupling profile allows an angular disposition of 45° between adjoining panel modules (1). The recesses of the non-regular coupling profile are used to configure a particular angular disposition.
Yet in an alternative aspect of the modular panel system of the present invention, the engagement section on a lateral edge of a panel module (1) further comprises two side flaps among which the engagement segment (2) is disposed.
Yet in an alternative aspect of the modular panel system of the present invention, the engagement segment (5) of the locking arrangement (14) is provided by the first (6) or by the second locking element (7), ensuring the connection between a supporting structure (3) and the locking arrangement (14). According to figures 3 to 6, which have merely illustrative purposes, the engagement segment (5) is provided by the first locking element (6).
Yet in an alternative aspect of the modular panel system of the present invention, the first (6) and the second locking elements (7) of the locking arrangement (14) comprise a fitting segment and a rail segment (10). Particularly, and according to figures 4 and 5 respectively, the fitting segment of the first locking element (6) comprises a female engagement portion (11), and the fitting segment of the second locking element (7) comprises a male engagement portion (12), being both engagement portions adapted to engage in one another. More particularly, the engagement between the first (6) and the second locking elements (7) is configured to form the rail section (8) of the locking arrangement, wherein said rail section (8) is formed by the rail segment (10) of the first locking element (6) and by the rail segment (10) of the second locking element (7). The length of the rail section (8) is given by the length of the rail segments (10) of the first (6) and the second locking elements (7). Said length may vary depending on the size and height of the panel modules (1) being used.
Yet in an alternative aspect of the modular panel system of the present invention, the rail segments (10) of the first (6) and the second locking elements (7) are of the same length.
Finally, in an alternative aspect of the modular panel system of the present invention, the second locking element (7) further comprises a latch (13) installed in the male engagement portion (12). As can be derived from figures 3 and 6, the latch (13) is adapted to switch between an open position, wherein the latch (13) is retracted, and a close position wherein the latch (13) is inserted into the female engagement portion (11) of the first locking element (6) thereby locking the male engagement portion (12) of the second locking element (7) into the female engagement portion (11) of the first locking element (6). This element (7) is used to ensure the proper stabilization of the locking arrangement (14), in particular the rail section (8) where a lateral portion of a panel module (1) is inserted.
As will be clear to one skilled in the art, the present invention should not be limited to the embodiments described herein, and a number of changes are possible which remain within the scope of the present invention. Of course, the preferred embodiments shown above are combinable, in the different possible forms, being herein avoided the repetition all such combinations.
