Abstract
Smartphones are the cause of a large number of road accidents, so need avoid that drivers are safe and responsible, identifying them everytime, not affecting the operation of the other occupants when the vehicle in motion.The application is referred to any type of transport, public and private two or four wheels, rail, water,air.The invention, described in this document, does not leave the user the possibility to cancel or modify the conditions of use of the smartphone, except as indicated by the configuration file of the state in which the vehicle is traveling.The invention does not need access to wi-fi or the mobile network, just as it does not use any component that requires wiring or power supply, not even with a battery.
Description
System for the selective temporary deactivation of smartphone functions to avoid distractions by vehicle drivers.
DESCRIPTION
The spread of so-called smartphones and the increasingly frequent dependence on their functions, both in voice and in data as well as for the graphic capabilities in reproducing images and videos or real-time representation of places and routes, has determined the cause of a large number of road accidents .
Talking on a mobile phone or texting is punished very severely, in Italy, for example, with the penalty of 5 points on the driving license, the possibility to withdraw it, and a fine between 161 and 647 euros. Therefore sanctions are not lacking, but the problem remains.
According to a recent study, 4 out of 10 drivers admitted to sending or reading messages while driving and the percentage rises to 5 out of 10 for young people between the ages of 18 and 24. Furthermore, as has been found for commercial vehicle drivers, texting while driving slows down reactions by at least 35% and increases the chance of accidents by 23 times.
According to another study, conducted in 2005 by the
Associated Press and titled "Cell Phone Use ages Young Drivers", << when young motorists talk on cell phones, they drive like elderly people - moving and reacting more slowly and increasing their risk of accidents. If you put a 20-year-

old driver behind the wheel with a cell phone, his reaction times are the same as a 70-year-old driver >>.
Clinical studies have confirmed the difficulty, on the part of the majority of users, in ignoring the acoustic warnings, so- called notifications, in relation to the reception of calls or messages.
Sudden lateral movements of vehicles driven by people distracted by the use of smartphones represent a serious danger even for self-driving vehicles.
Furthermore, the navigator function, enriched with a complete indication of catering and reception establishments as well as service stations and garages as of any other commercial establishment, has increasingly led drivers of vehicles, both private and public, to the availability of your smartphone in operation to the detriment of your own and others' safety.
It goes without saying that these communication tools have led the almost total population, in particular of the most technological countries, to constant telephone availability and the possibility of being contacted and always contacting anyone and everywhere.
Precisely this last aspect is what on the one hand makes the indiscriminate deactivation of smartphones on board vehicles unthinkable but on the other hand it is always necessary to guarantee some functions also to the driver and, in extreme cases, such as an ongoing criminal event, even with the

vehicle in motion.
In summary, it is necessary to avoid that the driver alone can be distracted from safe and responsible driving by identifying him in a certain and constant way, without any predefined bond between the current driver, the vehicle and the smartphone, not affecting the operation of the other occupants but only the driver with the vehicle in movement.
We specify that the term vehicle must be understood, in its most generic meaning, any type of means of transport, public and private as well as with two or four wheels or even rail and even water or air.
The scope of application of the invention, described in the present application, must therefore be understood as referring to any type of means of transport, public and private as well as two or four-wheeled vehicles or even on rail and even water or air, where the driver could use of a smartphone and distract yourself from driving the vehicle itself, even for a very short time.
However, only by way of non-limiting example, situations, applications and methods referring to a road vehicle are described below.
Industry studies show that a motorist, on average, loses visibility for 400 meters, or from 7 to 14 seconds, to dial a telephone number, write a message or take a selfie.
Furthermore, from the same studies, it is found that a lower
3
SUBSTITUTE SHEETS (RULE 26)
risk is not evident by using the hands-free voice compared to the hands-held use of the smartphone.
This, consequently, would suggest that it may be necessary to prevent the driver of the vehicle in motion from any use of the smartphone, therefore it is clear that it is necessary to allow a setting, for active and deactivated functions, different for each state in accordance with the relative driving rules.
The invention, described in this document, does not leave the user the possibility to cancel or modify the conditions of use of the smartphone, currently referred to the driver of the moving vehicle, except as indicated in the configuration file of the state in which the vehicle is circulating, file that comes with the operating system or with the basic software of the smartphone, updated automatically even with the availability of the mobile network only for the small size of a few kilobytes.
For its operation, the invention does not need access to wi-fi or the mobile network, just as it does not use any component that requires wiring or power supply, not even with a battery. There are patented solutions for the selective deactivation of smartphone functions to vehicle drivers, however some of these systems must be activated and adjusted by the driver so that the specific "App" can work or proceed with switching on the associated electronic device to communicate with your

smartphone .
Other solutions cannot guarantee the necessary correct operation in every situation due to the tolerances detected. This technology works automatically as soon as the driver gets behind the wheel.
The invention has obviously been described with reference to a specific application model, purely by way of non-limiting example, and it is therefore evident that all those modifications or variants suggested by the practice, as well as by its implementation and use, however included, can be made to it. within the scope defined by the following claims. The invention can operate with any smartphone, normally equipped with GPS, ACCELEROMETER and MAGNETOMETER.
Additional features can be managed using NFC tag pairing.
The smartphone must have (image 2) the operating system with the update or the "App" provided by the device manufacturer, which in any case cannot be changed and cannot be disabled. Let's examine the logic of the software for the management of the temporary selective deactivation of smartphone functions:
1.when the smartphone is turned on (2.1), the country in which it connects to the mobile network is identified in order to read (2.2) the conditions for the temporary selective deactivation of smartphone functions;
2.the software remains in stand-by until the accelerometer detects (2.3) a movement for a time T1 at a speed higher
5

than Tv, as defined (2.2) by the conditions for the temporary selective deactivation of smartphone functions;
3.through the magnetometer (2.4) there is a variation, with respect to the general condition of 38 mT, in the mT measured at that moment by the smartphone, cycling until the stop, otherwise returning to stand-by at point (2.3);
4.through the magnetometer (2.5) the presence of the four permanent neodymium magnets is checked, (1.1) above the driver's head (1.2) in the driver's backrest (1.3) in the driver's side door and (1.4) on the steering wheel column in proximity to the dashboard, also reading its polarities;
5.having confirmed the feedback, even partial, of the magnets and their polarity, even inverted, the system applies the restrictions (2.6) or, in case of non feedback, resets and cycles to point (2.3);
6.6. from this moment, by cycling on point (2.7), check that there is no stop for at least a T1 time with a speed lower than Tv or a request for help which, in any case, re-enables calls to emergency numbers.
For the tests, N52 permanent neodymium magnets were used in bars composed of one or more modules of 5xl0x40mm or alternatively composed of 1.5mm thick adhesive tape with anisotropic neodymium, with the north colored in red to facilitate correct positioning.

SUBSTITUTE SHEETS (RULE 26)
The simplicity and cheapness of the adaptation of a new production vehicle, as well as for vehicles already in circulation through an easy passage to authorized workshops equipped with the tables for the positioning of the magnets on specific cars, makes this invention undoubtedly can be built on any vehicle. .
Optionally, in accordance with what is defined with the countries that apply the obligation of the described system, the application (1.5) of an RFID R / W, of the universal NFC type with waterproof characteristics and also applicable on metal surfaces, has been envisaged, on which to record the installation information.
The system described can be used on any type of vehicle, for example both with right and left hand drive, being able to adjust the magnetic field of influence millimetrically.
With regard to any interference, the total absence of interference or disturbances due to the magnetic field, so defined, to the detriment of smartphones in every operation, including telephony and use of the satellite navigator, is documented and widely found.
Any disturbances on hearing impaired devices can be resolved by deactivating them, as it is permitted by the CdS.
For the wearers of ICDs and pacemakers there is no risk if seated as passengers, while the installation for the driver's seat can be modified with the ceiling magnet only (1.1); as a

further reference, suffice it to say that MP3 earphones can be considered less tolerable.
Image 3 shows the peaks in mT of the passage of a permanent N52 neodymium magnet in a 5xl0x40mm bar at a distance of 10cm from the magnetometer of a smartphone.
Finally, the system described makes it possible to continue to interface regularly the telephone, navigation and internet systems on board the vehicles, even if replicating the limitations envisaged in the country where one is driving.
It is therefore clear that the system described is reliable, can be installed on any vehicle at a negligible cost, cannot be altered and immediately verifiable by the traffic police and similar operators.
